Two novel long chain alkanediol dimethanesulphonates, analogues of busulphan, were synthesized. Their in vitro cytotoxicity was evaluated against six solid tumor cell lines (A2780, H322, LL, WiDr, C26-10 and UMSCC-22B). 2-Tetradecylbutane-1,4-diol dimethanesulphonate was proved to be the most active compound exhibiting IC50 values between 20.82 and 26.36 microM.  相似文献

Background

Currently, there is an intensive debate about the regulation of the use of electronic cigarettes (e-cigarettes) in indoor places. The aim of this study was to assess the attitudes toward e-cigarette use in indoor workplaces and selected public and private venues among the general population in Barcelona (Spain) in 2013–2014.

Methods

This is a cross-sectional study of a representative sample of the population of Barcelona (n = 736). The field work was conducted between May 2013 and February 2014. We computed the prevalence and the adjusted odds ratios (OR) derived from multivariable logistic regression models.

Results

The awareness of e-cigarettes was 82.3%. Forty five percent of respondents did not agree with the use of e-cigarettes in public places and 52.3% in workplaces. The proportion of disapproval of the use of e-cigarettes in indoor places was higher at 71.5% for schools and 65.8% for hospitals and health care centers; while the prevalence of disapproval of e-cigarette use in homes and cars was lower (18.0% and 32.5%, respectively). Respondents who disagreed on the use of e-cigarettes in indoor workplaces were more likely to be older (OR = 1.64 and 1.97 for groups 45–64 and ≧65 years old, respectively), those with a high educational level (OR = 1.60), and never and former smokers (OR = 2.34 and 2.16, respectively). Increased scores in the Fagerström test for cigarette dependence were also related to increased support for their use.

Conclusions

Based on this population based study, half of the general population of Barcelona does not support the use of e-cigarettes in indoor workplaces and public places, with the percentage reaching 65% for use in schools, hospitals and health care centers. Consequently, there is good societal support in Spain for the politicians and legislators to promote policies restricting e-cigarettes use in workplaces and public places, including hospitality venues.  相似文献

Abstract The purpose of this study is to certify the importance of the fimbriae as an attachment factor of Actinobacillus actinomycetemcomitans , a human periodontopathic bacterium, and the significance of anti-fimbrial antibody function as an attachment inhibitor. Fimbrial antigen was prepared from the A. actinomycetemcomitans 310-a strain. Oligopeptides were synthesized according to the amino acid sequence of the fimbrial protein. The peptide antigen was conjugated with branched lysine polymer resin beads. The peptide antigen was suspended in PBS emulsified with incomplete Freund's adjuvant and used to immunize rabbits. A rabbit antiserum reacted with an approximately 54 kDa protein of the fimbriae protein from A. actinomycetemcomitans 310-a and with those of other fimbriated strains. This antiserum strongly inhibited the attachment of fimbriated A. actinomycetemcomitans strains to saliva-coated hydroxyapatite beads, buccal epithelial cells, and a fibroblast cell line, Gin-1. Such a synthetic fimbrial peptide antigen may be effective in inducing antibodies which inhibit adhesion and subsequent colonization by A. actinomycetemcomitans .  相似文献

Collective dynamic properties of different kind of binary liquid mixtures have been investigated by molecular dynamics simulation. The study includes both the longitudinal and the transverse current spectra in simple liquid alloys, 1:1 molten salts and liquid binary mixtures of neutral particles with an ionic-like structure. These systems were chosen as representative of binary liquids with different static structures in order to analyse the effects of structural ordering on the mechanisms of dynamic collective properties. The effect of the mass asymmetry between the two species in the mixture has been also discussed from the results for two different mass ratios for each kind of structure. Two length scales have been considered. On the one hand, the hydrodynamic scale (low wave numbers), where the modes for the partial currents of the two species are characterised by very close frequencies. On the other hand, the molecular scale (higher wave numbers), where the characteristic frequencies for the two species show noticeable differences. Vibrational concentration current modes (optic modes) have been found in neutral mixtures though their influence is rather weak, being the collective dynamic properties of this kind of systems dominated by the mass current modes (acoustic modes). On the contrary, in mixtures of charged particles such as molten salts the contribution of the concentration (charge) currents to the collective dynamics is important and optic modes can be characterised by a well-defined frequency for a wide range of wave numbers. It has been observed that heavy particles have a more relevant role on the mass current correlations whereas light particles play a dominant role on the concentration current correlations. The overall results for the three kinds of liquid mixtures analysed in this paper show that both the longitudinal and transverse current spectra are little dependent on the static structure of the system whereas marked differences are revealed when the particles in the system are either neutral or carry an electric charge.  相似文献

Tarantula’s leg muscle thick filament is the ideal model for the study of the structure and function of skeletal muscle thick filaments. Its analysis has given rise to a series of structural and functional studies, leading, among other things, to the discovery of the myosin interacting-heads motif (IHM). Further electron microscopy (EM) studies have shown the presence of IHM in frozen-hydrated and negatively stained thick filaments of striated, cardiac, and smooth muscle of bilaterians, most showing the IHM parallel to the filament axis. EM studies on negatively stained heavy meromyosin of different species have shown the presence of IHM on sponges, animals that lack muscle, extending the presence of IHM to metazoans. The IHM evolved about 800 MY ago in the ancestor of Metazoa, and independently with functional differences in the lineage leading to the slime mold Dictyostelium discoideum (Mycetozoa). This motif conveys important functional advantages, such as Ca2+ regulation and ATP energy-saving mechanisms. Recent interest has focused on human IHM structure in order to understand the structural basis underlying various conditions and situations of scientific and medical interest: the hypertrophic and dilated cardiomyopathies, overfeeding control, aging and hormone deprival muscle weakness, drug design for schistosomiasis control, and conditioning exercise physiology for the training of power athletes.  相似文献

Drosophila subobscura is a species with a rich chromosomal polymorphism which is adaptive to different climatic conditions. Five samples of the Font Groga population (Barcelona, Spain) were sampled in autumn during 5 consecutive years (2011–2015) to obtain their inversion chromosomal polymorphism, and climatic data of several meteorological variables were also collected. The aim was to analyze the adaptive potential of inversions with regard to climatic variables, being the most relevant: mean temperature (Tmean), maximum temperature (Tmax), minimum temperature (Tmin), humidity (Hm) and rainfall (Rf). As expected, no significant variation in inversion frequencies were detected over this short period of time. However, from a climatic point of view it was possible to differentiate ‘warm’ and ‘dry’ from ‘cold’ and ‘humid’ samples. The joint study of maximum (Tmax) and minimum (Tmin) temperatures was a key element to understand the effect on adaptation of many inversions. It was also observed that temperature had to be considered in conjunction with humidity and rainfall. All these factors would condition the biota of D. subobscura habitat, and chromosomal inversions could provide an adaptive response to it.  相似文献

Drosophila buzzatii and Drosophila koepferae are sibling species with marked ecological differences related to their patterns of host exploitation. D. buzzatii is a polyphagous species with a sub-cosmopolitan distribution, while D. koepferae is endemic to the mountain plateaus of the Andes, where it exploits alkaloidiferous columnar cacti as primary hosts. We use experimental evolution to study the phenotypic response of these cactophilic Drosophila when confronting directional selection to cactus chemical defenses for 20 generations. Flies adapted to cactus diets also experienced higher viability on alkaloid-enriched media, suggesting the selection of adaptive genetic variation for chemical-stress tolerance. The more generalist species D. buzzatii showed a rapid adaptive response to moderate levels of secondary metabolites, whereas the columnar cacti specialist D. koepferae tended to maximize fitness under harder conditions. The evolutionary dynamic of fitness-related traits suggested the implication of metabolic efficiency as a key mediator in the adaptive response to chemical stress. Although we found no evidence of adaptation costs accompanying specialization, our results suggest the involvement of compensatory evolution. Overall, our study proposes that differential adaptation to secondary metabolites may contribute to varying degrees of host specialization, favoring niche partitioning among these closely related species.  相似文献

A liquid-chromatography (LC) method with ultraviolet detection for measuring ascorbic (AA) and dehydroascorbic acid (DHA) in human blood and serum was studied. The method used an ODS reversed-phase column and cetyltrimethylammonium bromide as an ion-pairing agent. AA was measured before and after the reduction of DHA with dithiothreitol. The absene of interferences resulting from hemolysis products was verified and also the stability of the ascorbic acid in metaphosphoric acid extracts. The analytical parameters, linearity (1–80 μg/ml), accuracy (recovery, 96.7–100.7%) and precision (C.V.=3.1%), show that the method is reliable and adequate for measuring the total vitamin C content in serum and plasma.  相似文献
