Mass attenuation coefficients ($$\mu _{\text {m}}$$) for some nonlinear optical materials such as potassium dihydrogen phosphate, ammonium dihydrogen phosphate, zinc tris-thiourea sulphate, and zinc thiourea chloride were measured using a $$2\times 2$$ NaI(Tl) scintillation detector at gamma energies of 122 keV, 356 keV, 511 keV, 662 keV, 840 keV, 1170 keV, 1270 keV, and 1330 keV. In addition, GEANT4 simulations were carried out to mimic the experiment at these energies. As a result, good agreement between the experimental and GEANT4 results was observed. The measured $$\mu _{\text {m}}$$ values were used to compute effective atomic numbers ($$Z_{\text {eff}}$$) for the selected materials. It was found that the $$Z_{\text {eff}}$$ values were in the range typical for dosimetric materials. 相似文献

The study reports on chromosomes in several populations of social voles from south-eastern Europe and the Middle East. The standard karyotypes of individuals of Microtus hartingi and Microtus guentheri originating from both south-eastern Europe and Asia Minor comprised 54 mostly acrocentric chromosomes. However, variation between populations was found in the amount and distribution of C-heterochromatin in certain autosomes and the sex chromosomes. Furthermore, a specific pattern of argyrophilic nucleolar organizer region distribution was recorded in different geographic populations. In a population from Asia Minor, a heterozygous centric fusion of two autosomes was found. The G-banded karyotypes of M. guentheri and Microtus socialis were compared, and tandem fusions of autosomes were suggested as possible mechanism of the divergence. The karyotypes of the nine currently recognized species of social voles are reviewed, and implications of chromosomal data for systematics are evaluated. 相似文献

Tyramine derivatives 3–27 were synthesized by using conventional and environmental friendly ultrasonic techniques. These derivatives were then evaluated for the first time for their α-glucosidase (Sources: Saccharomyces cerevisiae and mammalian rat-intestinal acetone powder) inhibitory activity by using in vitro mechanism-based biochemical assays. Compounds 7, 14, 20, 21 and 26 were found to be more active (IC50?=?49.7?±?0.4, 318.8?±?3.7, 23.5?±?0.9, 302.0?±?7.3 and 230.7?±?4.0?μM, respectively) than the standard drug, acarbose (IC50?=?840.0?±?1.73?μM (observed) and 780?±?0.028?μM (reported)) against α-glucosidase obtained from Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Kinetic studies were carried out on the most active members of the series in order to determine their mode of inhibition and dissociation constants. Compounds 7, 20 and 26 were found to be the competitive inhibitors of α-glucosidase. These compounds were also screened for their protein antiglycation, and dipeptidyl peptidase-IV (DPP-IV) inhibitory activities. Only compounds 20, 22 and 27 showed weak antiglycation activity with IC50 values 505.27?±?5.95, 581.87?±?5.50 and 440.58?±?2.74?μM, respectively. All the compounds were found to be inactive against DDP-IV enzyme. Inhibition of α-glucosidase, DPP-IV enzymes and glycation of proteins are valid targets for the discovery of antidiabetic drugs. Cytotoxicity of compounds 3–27 was also evaluated by using mouse fibroblast 3T3 cell lines. All the compounds were found to be noncytotoxic. The current study describes the synthesis α-glucosidase inhibitory activity of derivatives, based on a natural product tyramine template. The compounds reported here may serve as the starting point for the design and development of novel α-glucosidase inhibitors as antidiabetic agents. 相似文献

Helophytic plants contribute significantly in phytoremediation of a variety of pollutants due to their physiological or biochemical mechanisms. Phenol, which is reported to have negative/deleterious effects on plant metabolism at concentrations higher than 500 mg/L, remains hard to be removed from the environmental compartments using conventional phytoremediation procedures. The present study aims to investigate the feasibility of using P. australis (a helophytic grass) in combination with three bacterial strains namely Acinetobacter lwofii ACRH76, Bacillus cereus LORH97, and Pseudomonas sp. LCRH90, in a floating treatment wetland (FTW) for the removal of phenol from contaminated water. The strains were screened based on their phenol degrading and plant growth promoting activities. We found that inoculated bacteria were able to colonize in the roots and shoots of P. australis, suggesting their potential role in the successful removal of phenol from the contaminated water. Pseudomonas sp. LCRH90 dominated the bacterial community structure followed by A. lowfii ACRH76 and B. cereus LORH97. The removal rate was significantly high when compared with the individual partners, i.e., plants and bacteria separately. The plant biomass, which was drastically reduced in the presence of phenol, recovered significantly with the inoculation of bacterial consortia. Likewise, highest reduction in chemical oxygen demand (COD), biochemical oxygen demand (BOD), and total organic carbon (TOC) is achieved when both plants and bacteria were employed. The study, therefore, suggests that P. australis in combination with efficient bacteria can be a suitable choice to FTWs for phenol-degradation in water. 相似文献

The present study aims to examine the effect of supplementation of zinc on the distribution of various elements in the sera
of diabetic rats subjected to an acute swimming exercise. A total of 80 Sprague–Dawley-type adult male rats were equally allocated
to one of eight groups: Group 1, general; Group 2, zinc-supplemented; Group 3, zinc-supplemented diabetic; Group 4, swimming
control; Group 5, zinc-supplemented swimming; Group 6, zinc-supplemented diabetic swimming; Group 7, diabetic swimming; and
Group 8, diabetes. The rats were injected with 40 mg/kg/day subcutaneous streptozotocin (STZ) twice, with a 24-h interval
between two injections. Zinc was supplemented at a dose of 6 mg/kg/day (ip) for 4 weeks. Blood samples were collected at the
end of the 4-week study, and serum levels of lead, cobalt, molybdenum, chrome, sulfur, magnesium, manganese, sodium, potassium,
phosphorus, copper, iron, calcium, zinc, and selenium (mg/L) were determined with atomic emission. The lowest molybdenum,
chrome, copper, iron, potassium, magnesium, sodium, phosphorus, lead, selenium, and zinc values were obtained in Group 7 and
8. These same parameters were higher in the swimming exercise group (Group 4), relative to all other groups. The values in
zinc-supplemented groups were found lower than the values in Group 4, but higher than those in Group 6 and 7. The results
obtained from the study demonstrate that acute swimming exercise and diabetes affect the distribution of various elements

Genetic Structure of Brown Trout (Salmo trutta) Populations from Turkey Based on Microsatellite Data
This present study investigated micro- and macro-geographic microsatellite DNA variations using five polymorphic microsatellite loci from 27 brown trout populations in Turkey. Average number of alleles and average observed heterozygosity were 7.4 and 0.254, respectively. Even populations from the same sea basin and river system (the so called micro-geographic regions) had unique alleles. Genetic variation among the populations from macro-geographic regions (different sea basins and river systems) was 45.78%. The mtDNA lineages of brown trout that have previously been identified by mtDNA analyses were supported by the analysis of the microsatellite DNA data in general. The Çatak population, which belongs to the Tigris lineage, was clustered together with the Euphrates populations within the Adriatic mtDNA lineage, based on microsatellite data. Both mitochondrial and microsatellite DNA analyses have made it possible to determine a secondary contact between Adriatic and Tigris lineages. 相似文献

This study was undertaken to develop a new Gram-staining machine controlled by a micro-controller and to investigate the quality
of slides that were stained in the machine. The machine was designed and produced by the authors. It uses standard 220 V AC.
Staining, washing, and drying periods are controlled by a timer built in the micro-controller. A software was made that contains
a certain algorithm and time intervals for the staining mode. One-hundred and forty smears were prepared fromEscherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Neisseria sp., blood culture, trypticase soy broth, direct pus and sputum smears for comparison studies. Half of the slides in each
group were stained with the machine, the other half by hand and then examined by four different microbiologists. Machine-stained
slides had a higher clarity and less debris than the hand-stained slides (p<0.05). In hand-stained slides, some Gram-positive organisms showed poor Gram-positive staining features (p<0.05). In conclusion, we suggest that Gram staining with the automatic machine increases the staining quality and helps to

Etoxazole is a member of the diphenyl oxazoline class of insecticide, which was newly developed for use on pome fruits, cotton and strawberries as an acaricide. In the present study, genotoxic effects of acaricide etoxazole (ETX) (miticide/ovicide) were investigated using chromosome aberration (CA) test, sister chromatid exchange (SCE) test, and micronucleus test in human lymphocytes. ETX induced the CAs at all concentrations (5, 10, and 20 g/ml) for 24 h and also induced the CA at the highest concentration (20 g/ml) for 48 h only. The inducing the CAs for 48 h treatment period was dose-dependent. In addition, it induced the SCE at all concentrations and treatment periods in a dose-dependent manner as well. Although ETX decreased the mitotic index (MI) at all concentrations and treatment periods dose-dependently, it did not decrease the replication index (RI) when compared to the negative and solvent controls. In addition, ETX induced the micronucleus at all concentrations except 5 g/ml for 48 h. This inducing was dose-dependent as well. It can be concluded that ETX has a potential genotoxic effects in cultured human peripheral lymphocytes. 相似文献
