At the present time 5 species of the genus Scopolia Jacq. are demonstrating the close relations between the distribution patterns, situations and ecology of plants. They are growing recently in broadleaved deciduous forests and mixed forests with a different part of evergreen trees, shrubs and perennial herbs. Hyoscyamus L., a genus of Hyoscyaminae has become adapted to increasing aridity and shows now a center of distribution in the mountains of the eastern Mediterranean area and Near East within a semiarid climate on the western side of Eurasia. Scopolia Jacq. may be judged as relictic genus of mixed Tertiary broadleaved forest with a special evolution center on the eastside of the Eurasian continent under humid monsoon conditions. The recent scattered and disjunct distribution with gaps in arid-semiarid areas indicates the result of a long way of plantevolution, plant dispersal and changable history of the vegetation. The important, climatical conditions for the growth of Scopolia species are sufficient rainfall and moisture in summertime. Chill and frost in winter were forcing these herbs in temperate and northern regions to survive in superficial strata of the soils.  相似文献

Nineteen patients (9 females, 10 males) with mitochondrial encephalomyopathies (ME) were studied. The diagnosis was established according to clinical and histopathological criteria. Leading clinical features were chronic progressive external ophthalmoplegia (CPEO) and muscle weakness in 95% of the patients. Pigmentary retinopathy was seen in 63%, and was always associated with CPEO. Hypacusis was present in 47% and cerebellar ataxia in 63% of patients. Clinical or electrophysiological signs of involvement of the central nervous system (CNS) were found in 21% of the patients. In muscle biopsy ragged red fibers were the predominant histopathological findings (100% of the patients), while COX-negative fibers were seen in 74%, deletions of the mitochondrial DNA in 42%, and defects of the respiratory chain in 32% of the patients. Increased blood lactate levels were found in 79% of the patients. Needle electromyography revealed myopathic features in 74%, features of denervation in 16%, and w as normal in the remainder. Imaging studies showed cerebral atrophy in 58%, cerebellar atrophy in 16%, and hyperintense lesions of the white matter, pyramidal tract or extrapyramidal system in 16% of the cases. It is concluded that the clinical manifestations of ME can be very variable. Diagnosis of ME should be always considered in young patients presenting with CPEO and muscle weakness. In most cases, diagnosis can be made by a few selected investigations, while detection of genetic abnormalities may lead to the diagnosis in the remaining cases. Abstract: Replication of satellite phage P4 of Escherichia coli is dependent on three phage-encoded elements: the origin ( ori ), a cis replication element ( crr ), and the product of the α gene, gpα. In vitro P4 replication is origin-specific resulting in monomeric form I DNA. DNA synthesis requires chromosomally encoded proteins DNA polymerase III holoenzyme, SSB, DNA gyrase and probably topoisomerase I ; host-encoded initiation and priming functions are dispensable. The α protein is multifunctional in P4 replication, combining three activities in a single polypeptide chain. First, the protein complexes specifically with type I repeats at ori and crr . Second, the helicase activity associated with gpα unwinds DNA with 3'→ 5' polarity. Third, the primase activity results in the synthesis of RNA primers. Defined sequence motifs in gpα correlate with the helicase and primase activities which are arranged in distinct, separable domains. Primase activity is associated with the N-terminal half of the protein, ori / crr binding with the C-terminal portion. A model for the initiation mechanism of P4 replication which resembles that of mammalian simian virus 40 is discussed.  相似文献

During binocular rivalry visual consciousness fluctuates between two dissimilar monocular images. We investigated the role of attention in this phenomenon by comparing event-related potentials (ERPs) when binocular-rivalry stimuli were attended with when they were unattended. Stimuli were dichoptic, orthogonal gratings that yielded binocular rivalry and dioptic, identically oriented gratings that yielded binocular fusion. Events were all possible orthogonal changes in orientation of one or both gratings. We had two attention conditions: In the attend-to-grating condition, participants had to report changes in perceived orientation, focussing their attention on the gratings. In the attend-to-fixation condition participants had to report changes in a central fixation target, taking attention away from the gratings. We found, surprisingly, that attending to rival gratings yielded a smaller ERP component (the N1, from 160-210 ms) than attending to the fixation target. To explain this paradoxical effect of attention, we propose that rivalry occurs in the attend-to-fixation condition (we found an ERP signature of rivalry in the form of a sustained negativity from 210-300 ms) but that the mechanism processing the stimulus changes is more adapted in the attend-to-grating condition than in the attend-to-fixation condition. This is consistent with the theory that adaptation gives rise to changes of visual consciousness during binocular rivalry.  相似文献

Zusammenfassung Bei Kreuzungen zwischen Culex pipiens-Populationen verschiedener geographischer Herkunft werden drei Kreuzungstypen festgestellt: normale Kreuzbarkeit, reduzierte Kreuzbarkeit und Inkompatibilität (Nichtkreuzbarkeit). Die drei Kreuzungstypen sind mit Hilfe der Embryonierungsrate, der Schlüpfrate und der entstehenden Nachkommenschaft gegeneinander abgrenzbar. Bei Inkompatibilität sind 99.9% der sich entwickelnden Embryonen letal und etwa 0.1% der Tiere schlüpfen und sind fertile, diploide Weibchen. Die Aktivierung des Eies erfolgt durch das Spermium. Es liegt induzierte, meiotische Parthenogenese vor. Die diploiden, parthenogenetischen Weibchen gehen aus einer Oocyte 2. Ordnung oder aus Teilungsprodukten einer Oocyte 2. Ordnung hervor. Bei den letalen, haploiden Embryonen beteiligt sich das Spermium nicht am Aufbau des Embryos.
Genetic investigations on the incompatibility in the Culex pipiens complex
Summary In crosses between populations of the mosquito Culex pipiens of different geographical origin three crossing types have been found (1) crosses with normal offspring (2) crosses with reduced offspring and (3) crosses that show almost total incompatibility. In the case of incompatible crosses 99.9% of the developing embryos are lethal and only about 0.1% of the embryos hatch and develop into fertile diploid females. The origin of the exceptional diploid females has been investigated by means of the marker genes Kuf, r, w, var, y and ru. These females develop from a diploid oocyte or from a diploid nucleus that originated by fusion of the pronucleus and the last polar body. This has been concluded from the frequency of homozygous and heterozygous offspring from heterozygous females, the frequency of equational separation of different genes and the distribution of cross-over gametes in the exceptional females. Based on the genetical data it is argued that induced meiotic parthenogenesis takes place. The sperm does not play any part in the production of the diploid females and the lethal embryos. After the activation of the egg the sperm moves to the center of the egg but it does not succeed to fuse with the pronucleus. As a result the pronucleus starts to develop into a haploid embryo in about 99.9% and only in a few cases is the diploidy restored by a change in the meiotic process in the egg.

Zusammenfassung 1. Im Anschluß an eine frühere taxonomische Bearbeitung der Muscheln oder Bivalvia (Ziegelmeier 1957) werden Bestimmungsschlüssel für die Schnecken (Gastropoda Prosobranchia) der deutschen Meeresgebiete und brackigen Küstengewässer vorgelegt.2. Die Bestimmungsschlüssel basieren auf Schalenmerkmalen. Sie werden durch 20 Tafeln und 7 Abbildungen illustriert.3. Eine kurze Einführung in die äußere Anatomie der Gastropoda und Erläuterungen technischer Termini sollen auch dem jungen Studenten und interessierten Laien eine Bestimmung ermöglichen.
The snails (Gastropoda Prosobranchia) of the German marine areas and brackish coastal waters
Following a systematic treatment of the Bivalvia (Ziegelmeier 1957), this paper presents a taxonomic survey of the Gastropoda species found in marine and coastal waters near Germany; it includes species known from other countries bordering the North Sea and Baltic Sea. Employing taxonomic keys and numerous photographic illustrations, determinations are based on shell structures. Definitions of technical terms and explanations of pertinent details of gastropod anatomy are given in order to make determinations possible also for beginning students and interested laymen.

Eucalyptin and 8-desmethyleucalyptin have been isolated from the leaf wax coatings of several species of Eucalyptus, from Syncarpia glomulifera, Lophostemon confertus and an Angophora hybrid indicating that C-methylated flavones may be fairly distinctive of the family Myrtaceae. Ursolic acid has been isolated from the leaf waxes of E. youmanii, S. glomulifera, Leptospermum petersonii and Melaleuca quinquenervia, friedelin from Lophostemon confertus and 4,6-dimethoxy-2-hydroxyacetophenone from E. michaeliana.  相似文献

Summary The influence of nitrite and nitrate on chlorophyll fluorescence, a very sensitive indicator for the redox state of the primary acceptor of photosystem II of photosynthesis, was studied in green algae (several species of Chlorella, and Ankistrodesmus braunii). In phosphate solution under an atmosphere of nitrogen (i.e., in the absence of O2 and CO2, and without nitrite or nitrate), fluorescence shows a pronounced induction and then rises to a high steady-state level. In the presence of nitrite, however, fluorescence decreases after a rather short induction peak to a much lower steady-state. Nitrate, on the other hand, does not have any influence on either induction or steady-state of fluorescence. These results clearly demonstrate that nitrite reduction in the light is very closely coupled to the photosynthetic electron transport system, whereas nitrate is not reduced photosynthetically in vivo.  相似文献
