The present study was performed to determine the changes in inorganic element content in barley leaves of mammalian sex hormones
(MSH). Barley leaves were sprayed with 10−4, 10−6, 10−9, 10−12, 10−15 M concentrations of progesterone, β-estradiol, and androsterone at 7th day after sowing. The plants were harvested at the
end of 18 days after treatment with MSH solutions. The inorganic element concentrations were determined using wavelength dispersive
X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy technique. Although the all MSH concentrations significantly (p < 0.05) increased the concentrations of calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, sulfur, copper, manganese, aluminum, zinc, iron,
potassium, and chlorine, it decreased those of sodium concentration in barley leaves. The maximum changes in the element concentrations
were obtained at 10−9 M for plant leaves treated with progesterone, 10−6 M for plant leaves treated with β-estradiol and androsterone. The present study elucidated that MSH significantly (p < 0.05) affected the inorganic element concentrations in barley leaves. 相似文献

The present study was undertaken to reveal the changes in inorganic constituents of plants exposed to mammalian sex hormones
(MSH). Chickpea leaves were sprayed with 10−4, 10−6, 10−9, 10−12, and 10−15 M concentrations of progesterone, β-estradiol, and androsterone at 7th day after sowing. The plants were harvested at the
end of 18 days after treatment of MSH solutions and the inorganic components determined using a wavelength-dispersive X-ray
fluorescence spectroscopy technique. At all of the concentrations tested, MSH significantly increased the contents of K, S,
Na, Ca, Mg, Zn, Fe, P, Cu, and Ni. Interestingly, only Mn and Cl contents decreased. The maximum changes in the inorganic
composition were recorded at 10−6 M for plants treated with progesterone and 10−9 M for plants treated with β-estradiol and androsterone. 相似文献

Bacteriophages and bacterial toxins are promising antibacterial agents to treat infections caused by multidrug-resistant (MDR) bacteria. In fact, bacteriophages have recently been successfully used to treat life-threatening infections caused by MDR bacteria (Schooley RT, Biswas B, Gill JJ, Hernandez-Morales A, Lancaster J, Lessor L, Barr JJ, Reed SL, Rohwer F, Benler S, et al. 2017. Development and use of personalized bacteriophage-based therapeutic cocktails to treat a patient with a disseminated resistant Acinetobacter baumannii infection. Antimicrob Agents Chemother. 61(10); Chan BK, Turner PE, Kim S, Mojibian HR, Elefteriades JA, Narayan D. 2018. Phage treatment of an aortic graft infected with Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Evol Med Public Health. 2018(1):60–66; Petrovic Fabijan A, Lin RCY, Ho J, Maddocks S, Ben Zakour NL, Iredell JR, Westmead Bacteriophage Therapy Team. 2020. Safety of bacteriophage therapy in severe Staphylococcus aureus infection. Nat Microbiol. 5(3):465–472). One potential problem with using these antibacterial agents is the evolution of resistance against them in the long term. Here, we studied the fitness landscape of the Escherichia coli TolC protein, an outer membrane efflux protein that is exploited by a pore forming toxin called colicin E1 and by TLS phage (Pagie L, Hogeweg P. 1999. Colicin diversity: a result of eco-evolutionary dynamics. J Theor Biol. 196(2):251–261; Andersen C, Hughes C, Koronakis V. 2000. Chunnel vision. Export and efflux through bacterial channel-tunnels. EMBO Rep. 1(4):313–318; Koronakis V, Andersen C, Hughes C. 2001. Channel-tunnels. Curr Opin Struct Biol. 11(4):403–407; Czaran TL, Hoekstra RF, Pagie L. 2002. Chemical warfare between microbes promotes biodiversity. Proc Natl Acad Sci U S A. 99(2):786–790; Cascales E, Buchanan SK, Duché D, Kleanthous C, Lloubès R, Postle K, Riley M, Slatin S, Cavard D. 2007. Colicin biology. Microbiol Mol Biol Rev. 71(1):158–229). By systematically assessing the distribution of fitness effects of ∼9,000 single amino acid replacements in TolC using either positive (antibiotics and bile salts) or negative (colicin E1 and TLS phage) selection pressures, we quantified evolvability of the TolC. We demonstrated that the TolC is highly optimized for the efflux of antibiotics and bile salts. In contrast, under colicin E1 and TLS phage selection, TolC sequence is very sensitive to mutations. Finally, we have identified a large set of mutations in TolC that increase resistance of E. coli against colicin E1 or TLS phage without changing antibiotic susceptibility of bacterial cells. Our findings suggest that TolC is a highly evolvable target under negative selection which may limit the potential clinical use of bacteriophages and bacterial toxins if evolutionary aspects are not taken into account. 相似文献

Background
Evidence from several studies show poor guideline adherence to COPD treatment, but no such study has been undertaken in Norway. The objectives of this study, was to estimate and compare the guideline adherence to COPD treatment in general population-based and hospital-recruited COPD patients, and find possible predictors of guideline adherence. Methods
From the prospective, observational EconCOPD-study, we analysed guideline adherence for 90 population-based COPD cases compared to 245 hospital-recruited COPD patients. Overall guideline adherence was defined as correct pharmacological treatment, and influenza vaccination the preceding year, and having received smoking cessation advice. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was performed with the dichotomous outcome overall guideline adherence adjusting for relevant variables. Results
The overall guideline adherence for population-based COPD cases was 6.7%, significantly lower than the 29.8% overall guideline-adherence amongst hospital-recruited COPD patients. Adherence to pharmacological treatment guidelines was 10.0 and 35.5%, for the two recruitment sources, respectively. GOLD-stage 3 to 4 was associated with significantly better guideline adherence compared to GOLD-stage 2 (OR (95% CI) 18.9 (8.37,42.7)). The unadjusted difference between the two recruitment sources was completely explained by degree of airflow obstruction. Conclusion
Overall guideline adherence was very low for both recruitment sources. We call for increased attention from authorities and healthcare personnel to improve the quality of care given to this patient group.36.
The aim of this study was to develop chitosan film containing fucoidan and to investigate its suitability for the treatment
of dermal burns on rabbits. Porous films, thickness between 29.7 and 269.0 μm, were obtained by the solvent dropping method.
Water vapor permeability (3.3–16.6/0.1 g), the swelling (0.67–1.77 g/g), tensile strength (7.1–45.8 N), and bioadhesion (0.076–1.771
mJ/cm2) of the films were determined. The thinnest films were obtained with the lowest chitosan concentration (P<.05). The water absorption capacity of the films sharply increased with the freeze-drying technique. The film having the
thickness of 29.7 μm showed the highest amount of moisture permeability (16.6 g/0.1 g). Higher chitosan concentration significantly
increased tensile strength of the films (P<.05). Using higher concentration of lactic acid made films more elastic and applicable, and these films were selected for
in vivo studies. Seven adult male New Zealand white rabbits were used for the evaluation of the films on superficial dermal
burns. Biopsy samples were taken at 7, 14, and 21 days after wounding, and each wound site was examined macroscopically and
histopathologically. After 7 days treatment, fibroplasia and scar were observed on wounds treated with fucoidan-chitosan film.
The best regenerated dermal papillary formation, best reepithelization, and the fastest closure of wounds were found in the
fucoidan-chitosan film treatment group after 14 days compared with other treatment and control groups. It can be concluded
that fucoidan-chitosan films might be a potential treatment system for dermal burns and that changing formulation variables
can modulate the characterizations of the films.

In this study, the amounts of antioxidant vitamins (A, E and C), selenium (Se), reduced glutathione (GSH)/oxidized glutathione (GSSG) ratio and malondialdehyde (MDA) that is the indicator of lipid peroxidation were determined in Lemna gibba L. plants placed in the secondary clarifier and grown in natural water. The amounts of antioxidant vitamins (A, E and C), GSH, GSSG and MDA were determined with HPLC (high performance liquid chromatography) and the amounts of Se were determined fluorimetrically. While significant decrease in amounts of antioxidant vitamins (A, E and C) and Se takes place between the first and the second or third day depending on species and insignificant decrease takes place after that day, the amount of GSH/GSSG ratio decreases until the second day (p < 0.05) and insignificantly increases after that day. Amounts of vitamins (A, E and C), Se and GSH/GSSG ratio for the plants placed in the secondary clarifier are much less than that for control group while an opposite trend was observed in MDA level. The MDA for the plants placed in secondary clarifier has maximum value at the second day, which can be considered as the maximum stress occurring at that day. Consequently, the first two days of treatment time can be taken as acclimation time and after the acclimation time the plant lives in the hostile environmental condition with the certain amount of oxidative stress. As a result, it is determined that wastewater decreases the lifetime of plant by causing metabolic stress on it and affects antioxidant capacity. The lifetime of the plants in the secondary clarifier was determined to be five days since fading toward yellow color (necrosis) in the plants was observed at the fifth day. 相似文献

Ring chromosome 22, a rare cytogenetic anomaly, has been described in over 60 cases in the medical literature. The aim of this report was to present a case carrying ring chromosome 22, and her family. It is a case report of a patient presented at Medical Faculty of ?ukurova University in Turkey. An 8-year-old girl with ring chromosome 22 and her family were evaluated cytogenetically and clinically.A chromosome analysis of the proband revealed a de novo 46, XX, r(22)(p11.2;q13) karyotype. Our subject demonstrated the prominent features of this syndrome including profound mental retardation, language impairment, dysmorphic features, lack of speech, hyperactivity, and behavioral disorders. There is lack of consistency between the physical abnormalities that we observed in our subject and those observed for such patients in the literature. The wide range of manifestations observed in patients with this cytogenetic alteration is probably due to size differences in the deleted region. 相似文献

The aim of the study was to investigate how zinc deficiency and supplementation effect some hematologic parameters of rats performing swimming exercise. Forty adult male Spraque-Dawley rats were divided into 4 groups, zinc deficient swimming group (Group 1, n=10, zinc supplemented swimming group (Group 2, n=10), swimming control group (Group 3, n=10), and control group (Group 4, n=10). Blood samples were taken by decapitation and analyzed for the determination of erythrocyte, hemoglobin level, hematocrit, leukocyte, lymphocyte, platelet count and plasma zinc level at the end of the 4 week experiment. Erythrocyte count of group 1 was the lowest whereas erythrocyte count in group 3 was significantly lower than that in group 2 and 4 (p<0.05). Hemoglobin level of group 1 was significantly lower than that of groups 2 and 4 (p<0.05). Hematocrit was significantly lower in both group 1 and group 3 than both groups 2 and 4 (p<0.05). Lymphocyte count in group 2 was significantly higher than in all other groups (p<0.05). Platelet counts in group 2 was significantly lower than in all other groups (p<0.05). Our findings suggest that zinc deficiency effects the hematologic parameters mentioned negatively whereas zinc supplementation has a positive influence. 相似文献
