To identify the best biotypes, an extensive survey of Sicilian wild rosemary was carried out by collecting 57 samples from various sites, followed by taxonomic characterization from an agronomic perspective. All the biotypes collected were classified as Rosmarinus officinalis L. A cluster analysis based on the morphological characteristics of the plants allowed the division of the biotypes into seven main groups, although the characteristics examined were found to be highly similar and not area‐dependent. Moreover, all samples were analyzed for their phytochemical content, applying an extraction protocol to obtain the nonvolatile components and hydrodistillation to collect the essential oils for the volatile components. The extracts were characterized by LC‐UV‐DAD/ESI‐MS, and the essential oils by GC‐FID and GC/MS analyses. In the nonvolatile fractions, 18 components were identified, namely, 13 flavones, two organic acids, and three diterpenes. In the volatile fractions, a total of 82 components were found, with as predominant components α‐pinene and camphene among the monoterpene hydrocarbons and 1,8‐cineole, camphor, borneol, and verbenone among the oxygenated monoterpenes. Cluster analyses were carried out on both phytochemical profiles, allowing the separation of the rosemary samples into different chemical groups. Finally, the total phenol content and the antioxidant activity of the essential oils and extracts were determined with the Folin–Ciocalteu (FC) colorimetric assay, the UV radiation‐induced peroxidation in liposomal membranes (UV‐IP test), and the scavenging activity of the superoxide radical (O$\rm{{_{2}^{{^\cdot} -}}}$ ). In the present study, the relationship between personality dimensions and Circadian Preference was evaluated using a structural equation modeling approach. Participants (N?=?390; 53.8% female, mean age: 26.8?±?8.1 yrs) completed measures of Circadian Preference, Impulsivity, Sensation Seeking, and the Big Five factors. A mediation structural equation model assessed the direct and indirect effects of the Big Five factors on Circadian Preference. The results showed that Impulsivity and Sensation Seeking were significantly associated with Eveningness, whereas no significant direct effects of the Big Five traits were detected once the effects of Impulsivity and Sensation Seeking were taken into account. Background
The role of Vitamin D in musculoskeletal functionality among elderly people is still controversial. We investigated the association between serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25OHD) levels and physical performance in older adults.Methods
2694 community-dwelling elderly women and men from the Progetto Veneto Anziani (Pro.V.A.) were included. Physical performances were assessed by: tandem test, 5 timed chair stands (TCS), gait speed, 6-minute walking (6 mW) distance, handgrip strength, and quadriceps strength. For each test, separate general linear models and loess plots were obtained in both genders, in relation to serum 25OHD concentrations, controlling for several potential confounders.Results
Linear associations with 25OHD levels were observed for TCS, gait speed, 6 mW test and handgrip strength, but not for tandem test and quadriceps strength. After adjusting for potential confounders, linear associations with 25OHD levels were still evident for the 6 mW distance in both genders (p = .0002 in women; <.0001 in men), for TCS in women (p = .004) and for gait speed (p = .0006) and handgrip strength (p = .03) in men. In loess analyses, performance in TCS in women, in gait speed and handgrip strength in men and in 6 mW in both genders, improved with increasing levels of 25OHD, with most of the improvements occurring for 25OHD levels from 20 to 100 nmol/L.Conclusion
lower 25OHD levels are associated with a worse coordination and weaker strength (TCS) in women, a slower walking time and a lower upper limb strength in men, and a weaker aerobic capacity (6 mW) in both genders. For optimal physical performances, 25OHD concentrations of 100 nmol/L appear to be more advantageous in elderly men and women, and Vitamin D supplementation should be encouraged to maintain their 25OHD levels as high as this threshold. 相似文献65.

The innate immunity of Drosophila melanogaster is based on cellular and humoral components. Drosophila Helical factor (Hf), is a molecule previously discovered using an in silico approach and whose expression is controlled by the immune deficiency (Imd) pathway. Here we present evidence demonstrating that Hf is an inducible protein constitutively produced by the S2 hemocyte-derived cell line. Hf expression is stimulated by bacterial extracts that specifically trigger the Imd pathway. In absence of any bacterial challenge, the recombinant form of Hf can influence the expression of the antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) defensin but not drosomycin. These data suggest that in vitro Hf is an inducible and immune-regulated factor, with functions comparable to those of secreted vertebrate cytokines. 相似文献

Alkaptonuria (AKU) is a disease caused by a deficient homogentisate 1,2-dioxygenase activity leading to systemic accumulation of homogentisic acid (HGA), that forms a melanin-like polymer that progressively deposits onto connective tissues causing a pigmentation called “ochronosis” and tissue degeneration. The effects of AKU and ochronotic pigment on the biomechanical properties of articular cartilage need further investigation. To this aim, AKU cartilage was studied using thermal (thermogravimetry and differential scanning calorimetry) and rheological analysis. We found that AKU cartilage had a doubled mesopore radius compared to healthy cartilage. Since the mesoporous structure is the main responsible for maintaining a correct hydrostatic pressure and tissue homoeostasis, drastic changes of thermal and rheological parameters were found in AKU. In particular, AKU tissue lost its capability to enhance chondrocytes metabolism (decreased heat capacity) and hence the production of proteoglycans. A drastic increase in stiffness and decrease in dissipative and lubricant role ensued in AKU cartilage. Multiphoton and scanning electron microscopies revealed destruction of cell–matrix microstructure and disruption of the superficial layer. Such observations on AKU specimens were confirmed in HGA-treated healthy cartilage, indicating that HGA is the toxic responsible of morphological and mechanical alterations of cartilage in AKU. 相似文献

To analyse biofeedback training by microperimeter MP-1 (Nidek Technologies) on patients with Age Related Maculopathy (AMD).
We enrolled 15 patients (10 female and 5 male) and examined total of 27 eyes with AMD. All the patient underwent 10 training
sessions of 10 min for each eye, performed once a week using the MP-1 biofeedback examination. Statistical analysis was performed
using Student’s t-test. p values less than 0.05 were considered statistically significant. All patients displayed an improvement in visual acuity,
fixation behaviour, retinal sensitivity an reading speed. The mean character size value improved from 36.4 to 11.7; this result
was statistically significant (p = 0.031). A biofeedback examination using the MP-1 microperimeter can help the brain to memorize the final fixation location
by increasing attention modulation, thereby providing an efficient preferred retinal locus for visual tasks in patients with

The capabilities of a new class of immobilized (im) metal ion chelate complexes (IMCCs), derived from 1,4,7‐triazacyclononane (tacn), bis(1,4,7‐triazacyclononyl) ethane (dtne) and bis(1,4,7‐triazacyclononyl)propane (dtnp) complexed with the borderline metal ions Cu2+, Ni2+, Zn2+, Mn2+, Co2+, and Cr3+, for the purification of proteins have been investigated. In particular, the binding behavior of a model protein, the C‐terminal hexahistidine tagged recombinant fusion protein Schistosoma japonicum glutathione S‐transferase‐Saccharomyces cerevisiae mitochondrial ATP synthase δ‐subunit (GST‐δATPase‐His6), with these new immobilized metal ion affinity chromatographic (IMAC) sorbents was compared to the properties of a conventional sorbent, derived from immobilized Ni(II)‐nitrilotriacetic acid (im‐Ni2+‐NTA). Investigations using the recombinant GST‐δATPase‐His6 and recombinant S. japonicum glutathione S‐transferase (GST) lacking a hexahistidine tag have confirmed that the C‐terminal tag hexahistidine residues were required for the binding process to occur with these IMAC systems. The results also confirm that recombinant fusion proteins such as GST‐δATPase‐His6 can be isolated in high purity with these IMAC systems. Moreover, these new macrocyclic systems manifest different selectivity features as a function of pH or ionic strength when compared to the conventional, unconstrained iminodiacetic acid (IDA) or NTA chelating ligands, complexed with borderline metal ions such as Cu2+ or Ni2+, as IMAC systems. A series of 6-aryl-2,4-dioxo-5-hexenoic acids, were synthesized and tested against HIV-1 in cell-based assays and against recombinant HIV-1 integrase (rIN) in enzyme assays.
