The daily variations in the in situ CO2 exchange of the reproductive organs of Durio zibethinus trees, growing in an experimental field at University Putra Malaysia (UPM), were examined at different growth stages. Reproductive organs emerged on the leafless portions of branches inside the crown. The photon flux densities (PFD) in the chambers used for the measurements were less than 100 mol m–2 s–1 and were 40% of the PFD outside of the crown. The daytime net respiration rate and the nighttime dark respiration rate were higher at the time of flower initiation and during the mixed stages, when flower buds, flowers, and fruit coexist, than at the flower bud stage. The net respiration rate was lower than the daytime dark respiration rate at given temperatures, especially at the flower bud and fruit stages. Conversely, the net respiration rate was similar to the daytime dark respiration rate at the mixed stage. Photosynthetic CO2 refixation reduced the daily respiratory loss by 17, 5, 0.3, and 24% at the flower bud, flower initiation, mixed, and fruit stages, respectively. 相似文献

Kidney organogenesis requires the morphogenesis of epithelial tubules. Inductive interactions between the branching ureteric buds and the metanephric mesenchyme lead to mesenchyme-to-epithelium transitions and tubular morphogenesis to form nephrons, the functional units of the kidney. The LIM-class homeobox gene Lim1 is expressed in the intermediate mesoderm, nephric duct, mesonephric tubules, ureteric bud, pretubular aggregates and their derivatives. Lim1-null mice lack kidneys because of a failure of nephric duct formation, precluding studies of the role of Lim1 at later stages of kidney development. Here, we show that Lim1 functions in distinct tissue compartments of the developing metanephros for both proper development of the ureteric buds and the patterning of renal vesicles for nephron formation. These observations suggest that Lim1 has essential roles in multiple steps of epithelial tubular morphogenesis during kidney organogenesis. We also demonstrate that the nephric duct is essential for the elongation and maintenance of the adjacent Mullerian duct, the anlage of the female reproductive tract. 相似文献

Annexins are a family of Ca2+/phospholipid-binding proteins that have diverse functions. To understand the function of annexin in Physarum polycephalum, we searched for its binding proteins. Here we demonstrate the presence of two novel annexin-binding proteins. The homology search of partial amino acid sequences of these two proteins identified them as aminoacyl-tRNA synthetases (ARSs). Furthermore, antibody against aminoacyl-tRNA synthetases cross-reacted with one of two proteins. Our results imply the interaction between intracellular membrane dynamics and protein translation system, and may give a clue to understand the mechanism of some myositis diseases, which have been known to produce autoantibodies against ARSs. 相似文献

Dosing-time-dependent changes in the effect and toxicity of morphine were examined in mice housed under alternating 12 h light (07:00 to 19:00 h) and dark (19:00 to 07:00 h) cycles. Morphine (0.5 mg/kg) was injected intraperitoneally (i.p.) in animals to assess its beneficial effect (i.e., protection against the kaolin-induced, bradykinin-mediated, writhing reaction) and its toxicity (i.e., alteration of the hepatic enzymes of aspartate aminotransferase [AST] alanine aminotransferase [ALT], and glutathione [GSH] in separate experiments). The magnitude of the analgesic effect of morphine depended on dosing time, with minimum effect at 02:00 h and maximum effect at 14:00 h. The serum hepatic enzyme levels of AST and ALT increased after dosing morphine (100 mg/kg) at 02:00 and 14:00 h. Time courses of these enzymes did not differ between the two trials. However, hepatic GSH, which is involved in the detoxification of chemical compounds, significantly decreased after i.p. morphine injection at 02:00 but not at 14:00 h. Overall, the results suggest that the analgesic effect of morphine is greater after dosing during the resting than during the activity phase of mice that have been induced with bradykinin-mediated pain. Drug-induced hepatic damage as inferred by GSH alteration, however, may be greater after dosing during the active phase. 相似文献

Recent studies have shown the gene expression of several transporters to be circadian rhythmic. However, it remains to be elucidated whether the expression of P-glycoprotein, which is involved in the transport of many medications, undergoes 24 h rhythmicity. To address this issue, we investigated daily profiles of P-glycoprotein mRNA and protein levels in peripheral mouse tissues. In the liver and intestine, but not in the kidney, Abcb1a mRNA expression showed clear 24 h rhythmicity. On the other hand, Abcb1b and Abcb4, the other P-glycoprotein genes, did not exhibit significant rhythmic expression in the studied tissues. In the intestine, levels of whole P-glycoprotein also exhibited a daily rhythm, with a peak occurring in the latter half of the light phase and a trough at the onset of the light phase. Consistent with the day-night change of P-glycoprotein level, the ex vivo accumulation of digoxin, an Abcb1a P-glycoprotein substrate, into the intestinal segments at the onset of dark phase was significantly lower than it was at the onset of the light phase. Thus, Abcb1a P-glycoprotein expression, and apparently its function, are 24 h rhythmic at least in mouse intestine tissue. Contact hypersensitivity (CHS) is a cutaneous T-cell-mediated immunological reaction to applied haptens. Activated antigen-specific T cells release several cytokines and chemokines followed by the recruitment of inflammatory cells and skin damage. CD8+ T cells and CD4+ T cells have been involved in the establishment of previously described CHS. In this study, we investigated the induction of CHS by urushiol in mice. Maximum swelling in mouse ears was elicited 24 h after challenge with urushiol on day 9 of sensitization. IFN-gamma, TNF-alpha and IFN-gamma-inducible protein 10 (IP-10) mRNA were expressed after challenge of the antigen in urushiol-sensitized mice, but not in unsensitized mice. IFN-gamma knockout (KO) mice and TNF-alpha KO mice failed to elicit CHS with urushiol. Contact hypersensitivity and expressions of IFN-gamma, TNF-alpha and IP-10 mRNA were markedly suppressed in CD4+ and CD8+ cell-depleted mice. These results suggest that IFN-gamma, TNF-alpha, and possibly IP-10, play a critical role in CHS induced by urushiol, depending on both CD4+ T cells and CD8+ T cells. 相似文献

We evaluated the association between meteorological conditions and sports deaths at elementary, junior high and senior high schools. Data were collected from attached documents such as accident reports and death certificate records in the National Agency for the Advancement of Sports and Health in Japan. Evaluation of seasonal variation showed a significant concentration of deaths from heat disorders and drowning in July and August. When heart disease was evaluated according to the sports situation, significant seasonal variation with a high number of deaths in September–December was observed in sports events. Concerning circadian variation, deaths from heart disease showed a high peak at 10:00–11:00 a.m. in physical education classes and sports events, and at 2:00–5:00 p.m. in sports club activities. Analysis using a multiple logistic model showed a significantly lower odds ratio from heart disease and a significantly higher odds ratio from heat disorders at a wet bulb globe temperature of 21.0°C than at <21.0°C. According to the sports situation in heart disease, the odds ratio in sports club activities was significantly lower on days with rainfall than on days without rainfall. According to the school categories in heart diseases, the odds ratio in girls in elementary school was significantly higher than that in boys, but the odds ratio in girls in senior high school was significantly lower than that in boys. 相似文献
