The angiogenic factors vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and placenta growth factor (PlGF) are respectively up- and downregulated by hypoxia. We aimed to study circulating levels of the above factors in intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR) and to correlate their levels with the customized centiles of the infants. The study included 25 IUGR and 25 appropriate for gestational age (AGA) full-term, singleton infants and their mothers. Maternal (MS), fetal (UC), and neonatal day 1 (N1) and 4 (N4) blood was examined. MS and N1 PlGF, as well as UC VEGF levels correlated with the customized centiles of the infants (r= 0.39, P=.007, r=0.34, P=.01, and r= -0.41, P=.004, resp). Furthermore, UC, N1, and N4 VEGF levels were higher in girls (r=0.36, P=.01, r=0.33, P=.02, and r=0.41, P=.005 resp). In conclusion, positive and negative correlations of examined factors with the customized centiles of the infant could rely on placental function and intrauterine oxygen concentrations-both being usually lower in IUGR cases-while higher VEGF levels in girls should possibly be attributed to the stimulating action of estrogens.  相似文献

In opiate-dependent rats previous studies showed that anaesthetic agents, such as chloral hydrate, midazolam and ketamine interfere with naloxone-precipitated opiate withdrawal. Each anaesthetic induces a specific pattern of interference, indicating that the interference is agent-dependent. In order to further investigate these effects and highlight a potential pharmacological basis of opiate withdrawal interference through anaesthetic agents, we hypothesized that anaesthetic-mediated interference of opiate withdrawal is also dose-dependent. Three groups of rats were compared in an experimental procedure of rapid withdrawal induction by an antagonist under anaesthesia using sub-anaesthetic dosage of midazolam, ketamine or saline. We observed that sub-anaesthetic dosage of ketamine, or midazolam, interferes significantly with opiate withdrawal expression. This brings arguments in favour of a pharmacological basis underlying rapid antagonists induction in opiate dependent rats.  相似文献

The morphogenesis of lobed plant cells has been considered to be controlled by microtubule (MT) and/or actin filament (AF) organization. In this article, a comprehensive mechanism is proposed, in which distinct roles are played by these cytoskeletal components. First, cortical MT bundles and, in the case of pavement cells, radial MT arrays combined with MT bundles determine the deposition of local cell wall thickenings, the cellulose microfibrils of which copy the orientation of underlying MTs. Cell growth is thus locally prevented and, consequently, lobes and constrictions are formed. Arch-like tangential expansion is locally imposed at the external periclinal wall of pavement cells by the radial arrangement of cellulose microfibrils at every wall thickening. Whenever further elongation of the original cell lobes occurs, AF patches assemble at the tips of growing lobes. Intercellular space formation is promoted or prevented by the opposite or alternate, respectively, arrangement of cortical MT arrays between neighboring cells. The genes that are possibly involved in the molecular regulation of the above morphogenetic procedure by MT and AF array organization are reviewed.  相似文献

We have previously reported that 1-benzyl-2-acetamido-2-deoxy-alpha-D-galactopyranoside (GalNAc alpha-O-bn), an inhibitor of glycosylation, perturbed apical biosynthetic trafficking in polarized HT-29 cells suggesting an involvement of a lectin-based mechanism. Here, we have identified galectin-4 as one of the major components of detergent-resistant membranes (DRMs) isolated from HT-29 5M12 cells. Galectin-4 was also found in post-Golgi carrier vesicles. The functional role of galectin-4 in polarized trafficking in HT-29 5M12 cells was studied by using a retrovirus-mediated RNA interference. In galectin-4-depleted HT-29 5M12 cells apical membrane markers accumulated intracellularly. In contrast, basolateral membrane markers were not affected. Moreover, galectin-4 depletion altered the DRM association characteristics of apical proteins. Sulfatides with long chain-hydroxylated fatty acids, which were also enriched in DRMs, were identified as high-affinity ligands for galectin-4. Together, our data propose that interaction between galectin-4 and sulfatides plays a functional role in the clustering of lipid rafts for apical delivery.  相似文献

A Bayesian survival analysis is presented to examine the effect of fluoride-intake on the time to caries development of the permanent first molars in children between 7 and 12 years of age using a longitudinal study conducted in Flanders. Three problems needed to be addressed. Firstly, since the emergence time of a tooth and the time it experiences caries were recorded yearly, the time to caries is doubly interval censored. Secondly, due to the setup of the study, many emergence times were left-censored. Thirdly, events on teeth of the same child are dependent. Our Bayesian analysis is a modified version of the intensity model of Harkanen et al. (2000, Scandinavian Journal of Statistics 27, 577-588). To tackle the problem of the large number of left-censored observations a similar Finnish data set was introduced. Our analysis shows no convincing effect of fluoride-intake on caries development.  相似文献
