We carried out an experimental study to determine the serological response against myxoma virus (MV) and rabbit hemorrhagic disease virus (RHDV) in wild rabbits using commercial vaccines. Seroconversion against MV ranged between 72.7% and 97.2% in animals vaccinated by subcutaneous and intradermal route, respectively, whereas between 75.0% and 77.8% of the animals presented antibodies against RHDV after inoculation with subcutaneous and intradermal vaccines, respectively. Regardless of the inoculation route, vaccination against MV resulted in a significant increase of seropositivity 5 days post-vaccination (dpv), which did not occur in animals vaccinated against RHDV. Furthermore, seroconversion against MV was significantly higher and faster in intradermally vaccinated rabbits as compared to those inoculated subcutaneously due to either the route of application and/or the type of vaccine used. The results indicated that vaccination significantly increased the prevalence of antibodies against MV and RHDV and suggested that the vaccines currently available induce a safe and effective immune response against both diseases in wild rabbits. Vaccination may be a useful management tool to control both viral diseases in field conditions, particularly in wild rabbits captured for translocations and restocking purposes in which a large number of animals are handled. © 2011 The Wildlife Society.  相似文献

Costly punishment of cheaters who contribute little or nothing to a cooperating group has been extensively studied, as an effective means to enforce cooperation. The prevailing view is that individuals use punishment to retaliate against transgressions of moral standards such as fairness or equity. However, there is much debate regarding the psychological underpinnings of costly punishment. Some authors suggest that costly punishment must be a product of humans'' capacity for reasoning, self-control and long-term planning, whereas others argue that it is the result of an impulsive, present-oriented emotional drive. Here, we explore the inter-temporal preferences of punishers in a multilateral cooperation game and show that both interpretations might be right, as we can identify two different types of punishment: punishment of free-riders by cooperators, which is predicted by patience (future orientation); and free-riders'' punishment of other free-riders, which is predicted by impatience (present orientation). Therefore, the picture is more complex as punishment by free-riders probably comes not from a reaction against a moral transgression, but instead from a competitive, spiteful drive. Thus, punishment grounded on morals may be related to lasting or delayed psychological incentives, whereas punishment triggered by competitive desires may be linked to short-run aspirations. These results indicate that the individual''s time horizon is relevant for the type of social behaviour she opts for. Integrating such differences in inter-temporal preferences and the social behaviour of agents might help to achieve a better understanding of how human cooperation and punishment behaviour has evolved.  相似文献

Glycine synaptic levels are controlled by glycine transporters (GLYTs) catalyzing Na(+)/Cl(-)/glycine cotransport. GLYT1 displays a 2:1 :1 stoichiometry and is the main regulator of extracellular glycine concentrations. The neuronal GLYT2, with higher sodium coupling (3:1 :1), supplies glycine to the pre-synaptic terminal to refill synaptic vesicles. In this work, using structural homology modelling and molecular dynamics simulations of GLYTs, we predict the conservation of the two sodium sites present in the template (leucine transporter from Aquifex aeolicus), and confirm its use by mutagenesis and functional analysis. GLYTs Na1 and Na2 sites show differential cation selectivity, as inferred from the action of lithium, a non-transport-supporting ion, on Na(+)-site mutants. GLYTs lithium responses were unchanged in Na1-site mutants, but abolished or inverted in mutants of Na2 site, which binds lithium in the presence of low sodium concentrations and therefore, controls lithium responses. Here, we report, for the first time, that lithium exerts opposite actions on GLYTs isoforms. Glycine transport by GLYT1 is inhibited by lithium whereas GLYT2 transport is stimulated, and this effect is more evident at increased glycine concentrations. In contrast to GLYT1, high and low affinity lithium-binding processes were detected in GLYT2.  相似文献

The anti-inflammatory and redox protective effects of the citronellal (CT) were evaluated using in vivo and in vitro tests. Intraperitoneal (i.p.) administration of CT (50, 100, and 200 mg/kg) inhibited (p < 0.05) the carrageenan-induced leukocyte migration to the peritoneal cavity. Additionally, the carrageenan- and arachidonic acid-induced rat hind paw edema was significantly inhibited (p < 0.05) by i.p. administration of 100 and 200 mg/kg of the compound. When the redox activity was evaluated, CT (200 mg/kg) significantly reduced hepatic lipoperoxidation (p < 0.001), as well as oxidation of plasmatic (p < 0.05) and hepatic (p < 0.01) proteins. The results of the present study support the hypothesis that CT possesses anti-inflammatory and redox protective activities. It is suggested that its effects are associated with the inhibition of the enzymes in the arachidonic acid pathway, which prevent cell migration by inhibiting leukotriene production, edema formation and the increase of reactive oxygen species in tissues. Therefore, CT is of potential benefit to manage inflammatory disorders and correlated damages caused by oxidant agents.  相似文献

Addition of 3 × 106 thymus cells from either syngeneic, allogeneic or xenogeneic animals increases the cloning efficiencies of murine thymomas (EL-4, WC-2), B-lymphomas (McPC 1748, 38C-13), Abelson-virus transformed cell lines (F and K), mastocytomas (P815), myelomas (AbPC22, X63-AG8, 5563, MOPC 104 E, RFC 5, W 3469) and hybrids of myelomas and normal B-lymphocytes (Sp-1), all adapted to tissue culture, to near 100%. Thymus cells also increase the efficiencies of growth initiation in primary in vitro cultures of myeloma tumor cells (S117) transplanted in vivo, and of cells fused between the azaguanine-resistant X63-AG8 myeloma cell line and normal, LPS-stimulated B-lymphocyte blasts.  相似文献

We address the observation that, in some cases, patients infected with the hepatitis C virus (HCV) are cleared of HCV when super-infected with the hepatitis A virus (HAV). We hypothesise that this phenomenon can be explained by the competitive exclusion principle, including the action of the immune system, and show that the inclusion of the immune system explains both the elimination of one virus and the co-existence of both infections for a certain range of parameters. A fast purification procedure for the isolation and purification of eukaryotic porin (De Pinto et al., (1987) Biochim. Biophys. Acta 905, 499-502) was applied to liver mitochondria of the fish Anguilla anguilla. A protein preparation was obtained which formed slightly anionically selective pores in reconstitution experiments with lipid bilayer membranes. The distribution of single-channel conductances had two maxima of 2.4 nS and 4.0 nS in 1 M KCl. Sodium dodecylsulfate electrophoretograms of the protein preparation showed the presence of two bands of very similar electrophoretic mobility (32 and 32.5 kDa). Both bands cross-reacted with antibodies raised against purified bovine heart porin and with antibodies raised against the 19 amino acids N-terminal end of human porin. No cross-reactivity was observed with antibodies against yeast porin. The peptide maps of the two bands showed slight differences. The possibility of the presence of two different porins in liver mitochondria of Anguilla anguilla is discussed. An extensive immunological comparison of different mitochondrial porins is presented.  相似文献
