This paper reports the effect of the operation and design characteristics of rotating drum bioreactors (RDBs) aerated by natural
convection and applied to the treatment of a soil highly polluted with weathered total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH) (55,000 ± 2,600 mg/kg).
The parameters studied were length to diameter ratio (L/D), rotating speed (N) and lifter type. The highest TPH removal (59.6 ± 0.7%) was obtained with the RDB of the lowest L/D ratio (1.5). Removals diminished by 27, 36 and 56%, with a ratio increment of 2.1, 3.1 and 5.1, respectively. Increment of
the N, at an optimal value and lifter change from straight to helicoidal showed an improvement on the TPH removal of 20 and 30%,
respectively. According to these results, slurry surface renewal through the variation of the N and the change of slurry flow was able to improve TPH removal in RDBs operated by natural convection. 相似文献
The Uzon Caldera is one of the places on our planet with unique geological, ecological, and microbiological characteristics. Uzon oil is the youngest on Earth. Uzon oil has unique composition, with low proportion of heavy fractions and relatively high content of saturated hydrocarbons. Microbial communities of the «oil site» have a diverse composition and live at high temperatures (up to 97 °C), significant oscillations of Eh and pH, and high content of sulfur, sulfides, arsenic, antimony, and mercury in water and rocks.
Results
The study analyzed the composition, structure and unique genetics characteristics of the microbial communities of the oil site, analyzed the metabolic pathways in the communities. Metabolic pathways of hydrocarbon degradation by microorganisms have been found. The study found statistically significant relationships between geochemical parameters, taxonomic composition and the completeness of metabolic pathways. It was demonstrated that geochemical parameters determine the structure and metabolic potential of microbial communities.
Conclusions
There were statistically significant relationships between geochemical parameters, taxonomic composition, and the completeness of metabolic pathways. It was demonstrated that geochemical parameters define the structure and metabolic potential of microbial communities. Metabolic pathways of hydrocarbon oxidation was found to prevail in the studied communities, which corroborates the hypothesis on abiogenic synthesis of Uzon hydrothermal petroleum.
The primary goal of “in vitro–in vivo correlation” (IVIVC) is the reliable prediction of the in vivo serum concentration‐time course, based on the in vitro drug dissolution or release profiles. IVIVC methods are particularly appropriate for formulations that are released over an extended period of time or with a lag in absorption and may support approving a change in formulation of a drug without additional bioequivalence trials in human subjects. Most of the current IVIVC models are assessed using frequentist methods, such as linear regression, based on averaged data and entail complex and potentially unstable mathematical deconvolution. The proposed IVIVC approach includes (a) a nonlinear‐mixed effects model for the in vitro release data; (b) a population pharmacokinetic (PK) compartment model for the in vivo immediate release (IR) data; and (c) a system of ordinal differential equations (ODEs), containing the submodels (a) and (b), which approximates and predicts the in vivo controlled release (CR) data. The innovation in this paper consists of splitting the parameter space between submodels (a) and (b) versus (c). Subsequently, the uncertainty on these parameters is accounted for using a Bayesian framework, that is estimates from the first two submodels serve as priors for the Bayesian hierarchical third submodel. As such, the Bayesian method explained ensures a natural integration and transfer of knowledge between various sources of information, balancing possible differences in sample size and parameter uncertainty of in vitro and in vivo studies. Consequently, it is a very flexible approach yielding results for a broad range of data situations. The application of the method is demonstrated for a transdermal patch (TD). 相似文献
The present study describes two new Nostoc species, N. montejanii and N. tlalocii, based on a polyphasic approach that combines morphological, ecological, and genetic characteristics. The five investigated populations, including those from newly collected material from central Mexico, were observed to possess morphological features characteristic of the Nostoc genus. Results showed that both new species are strictly associated with running water, and they show clear differences in their habitat preferences. The 16S rRNA gene sequences of the five strains displayed between 98% and 99% similarity to the genus Nostoc sensu stricto. The 16S rRNA gene phylogenetic analyses inferred using Bayesian inference, maximum likelihood, and parsimony methods, placed these five strains in two separate clades distinct from other Nostoc species. The secondary structures of the 16S–23S internal transcribed spacer rRNA region in the two new species showed >10.5% dissimilarities in the operons when compared with other Nostoc species. In addition, clear morphological differences were observed between the two Mexican species, including the color of the colonies (black in N. montejanii and green in N. tlalocii), the size of the cells (greater in N. montejanii), and the number of polyphosphate granules present in the cells (one in N. montejanii and up to four in N. tlalocii). 相似文献

temperature is seldom reached. With an integrated device coupling a raceway pond with a suitably sized and positioned closed
system (alveolar panel), the heat accumulated in the panel was efficiently transferred to the pond and a near-optimum temperature
regimen for Arthrospira platensis was maintained, with no need for any additional cooling device. The productivity obtained
in the integrated system was higher than the sum of the productivities (g reactor−1 day−1) of the pond and panel systems operating separately.

Serum samples of goats experiencing natural and experimental infections and/or reactivation of caprine herpesvirus 1 (CpHV.1) were analysed with neutralization and Western blotting (WB) tests. WB immunological patterns resulted differently and related to neutralizing titers. In serum samples having neutralizing titer 1:2-1:4, antibodies to two proteins of Mw of 150 and 34 kDa were present. Antibodies against several proteins, two of those being characterized by monoclonal antibodies as gB and gC, were visualized by WB in sera having titer > or = 1:8. The neutralizing antibody titers and the pattern of antibody reactivity were hypothesized to modulate the reactivation and re-excretion process of CpHV.1. 相似文献
Guanine nucleotide exchange factors control many aspects of cell morphogenesis by turning on Rho-GTPases. The fission yeast exchange factor Rgf1p (Rho gef1) specifically regulates Rho1p during polarized growth and localizes to cortical sites. Here we report that Rgf1p is relocalized to the cell nucleus during the stalled replication caused by hydroxyurea (HU). Import to the nucleus is mediated by a nuclear localization sequence at the N-terminus of Rgf1p, whereas release into the cytoplasm requires two leucine-rich nuclear export sequences at the C-terminus. Moreover, Rgf1p nuclear accumulation during replication arrest depends on the 14-3-3 chaperone Rad24p and the DNA replication checkpoint kinase Cds1p. Both proteins control the nuclear accumulation of Rgf1p by inhibition of its nuclear export. A mutant, Rgf1p-9A, that substitutes nine serine potential phosphorylation Cds1p sites for alanine fails to accumulate in the nucleus in response to replication stress, and this correlates with a severe defect in survival in the presence of HU. In conclusion, we propose that the regulation of Rgf1p could be part of the mechanism by which Cds1p and Rad24p promote survival in the presence of chronic replication stress. It will be of general interest to understand whether the same is true for homologues of Rgf1p in budding yeast and higher eukaryotes. 相似文献
The effect of diets supplemented with three different fats (olive oil, sunflower oil, pork fat) on the susceptibility of the rat heart to oxidative stress and on the rate of eicosanoid release were studied. Our results show that when fatty-acid unsaturation of heart lipids is increased or vitamin E is decreased, even to a low degree, a marked enhancement of the susceptibility to hydroperoxide-induced oxidative stress (measured by chemiluminescence emission) occurs, which is associated with an increase of eicosanoid release from the heart. 相似文献
Vocalization, visual and chemical signals are courtship behaviours of anurans that may expose them to the risk of predation. Here, we described a predation event in which a population of the torrent frog Hylodes cardosoi was in intense courtship behaviour and one individual was caught by a specimen of the pitviper Bothrops jararaca. The predation event was recorded in a region of Atlantic Forest, Paraná, Brazil. We hypothesized that the pitviper was ambush hunting and captured a female frog that was attracted by the vocalization of a nearby male. Predatory interactions are important ecological factors driving the evolution and population size of both prey and predator. This report increases the prey richness described for B. jararaca and also extends the known geographic distribution of H. cardosoi. Our observation contributes to knowledge of the natural history of the species involved. 相似文献
