Cognitive deficits are found to be contributors to poorer psychosocial functioning, rehabilitation outcome and lack of treatment success in schizophrenia. Aim of the study was to examine correlation of cognitive functions with some aspects of illness, treatment and social functioning in a group of recurrently hospitalized schizophrenic patients (N=60). Deficient results on psychomotor processing speed, verbal fluency and verbal learning correlated with the longer duration of illness, higher number of hospitalizations and shorter duration of regular antipsychotic treatment. Deficient results on verbal fluency correlated with the younger age of onset, poor functional autonomy and organizational skills, whereas deficient results on psychomotor processing and verbal learning correlated with poor organizational skills alone. Score on verbal fluency was predictive of social skills impairment, whereas score on psychomotor processing was predictive of functional autonomy and organizational skills impairment. Functioning of different cognitive domains could be predictive of functioning in different social domains. Interplay of specific cognitive deficit and social functioning could be responsible for recurrent hospitalizations and unfavorable treatment choices. 相似文献

Determination of anti-citrullinated peptides (anti-CCP) specificity as a predictor of joint erosive changes, correlation between their serum level and radiological damages as well as disease activity score (DAS28). A trial has been conducted on a 211 patient sample fulfilling ACR criteria for rheumatoid arthritis (RA). There was assigned anti-CCP serum level, disease activity score by the formula for DAS28(3)-CRP and assessed radiological changes degree after Steinbrocker score. In 132 patient (62.559%) the serum anti-CCP concentration was positive for RA. Specificity of the test was 100% and sensitivity 65% (Z = 0.731, p = 0.465). There is a medium intensity correlation between variables representing anti-CCP and Steinbrocker score. Pearson's coefficient was 0.479 and Spearman's rank correlation coefficient was 0.614, i.e. statistically significant (p = 0.000). There is no statistically significant correlation between variables representing anti-CCP and DAS28(3)-CRP Anti-CCP are good RA predictor and their concentration correlate with radiological damages degree. 相似文献

The effects of the non-ionic surfactant Triton X-100, the cationic surfactant cetyltri-methylammonium bromide (CTAB) and the anionic surfactant sodium N-lauroyl sarcosinate (SLS) on the decolorization of the reaction medium containing the monoazo dye Acid Orange 7 (AO7) by Alcaligenes faecalis and Rhodococcus erythropolis were studied. It was found that the surfactants influenced in different ways the rate of decolorization. At all concentrations tested the non-ionic surfactant Triton X-100 decreased the decolorization rate of R. erythropolis. At concentrations above the critical micelle concentration (CMC) Triton X-100 upset the usually observed exponential decay of the dye with A. faecalis due probably to the existence of an outer membrane in this organism. In concentrations above the CMC the anionic surfactant SLS inhibited the decolorization and, at prolonged incubation, caused partial release of the bound dye. The cationic surfactant CTAB in concentrations above and below the CMC accelerated drastically the binding of AO7 to the cells causing a rapid staining of the biomass and complete decolorization of the reaction medium. Mitochondria are cell substructures (organelles) critical for cell life, because biological fuel production, the ATP synthesis by oxidative phosphorylation, occurs in them driven by acidity (pH) gradients. Mitochondria play a key role as well in the cell death and in various fatigue and exercise intolerance syndromes. It is clear now that mitochondria present an astonishing variety of inner membrane morphologies, dynamically correlated with their functional state, coupled with the rate of the ATP synthesis, and characteristic for normal as well as for pathological cases. Our work offers some original insights into the factors that determine the dynamical tubular structures of the inner membrane cristae. We show the possibility to induce, by localized proton flow, a macroscopic cristae-like shape remodeling of an only-lipid membrane. We designed a minimal membrane system (GUV) and experimentally showed that the directional modulation of local pH gradient at membrane level of cardiolipin-containing vesicles induces dynamic cristae-like membrane invaginations. We propose a mechanism and theoretical model to explain the observed tubular membrane morphology and suggest the underlying role of cardiolipin. Our results support the hypothesis of localized bioenergetic transduction and contribute to showing the inherent capacity of cristae morphology to become self-maintaining and to optimize the ATP synthesis. 相似文献

In plasma, iron is normally bound to transferrin, the principal protein in blood responsible for binding and transporting iron throughout the body. However, in conditions of iron overload when the iron-binding capacity of transferrin is exceeded, non–transferrin-bound iron (NTBI) appears in plasma. NTBI is taken up by hepatocytes and other parenchymal cells via NTBI transporters and can cause cellular damage by promoting the generation of reactive oxygen species. However, how NTBI affects endothelial cells, the most proximal cell type exposed to circulating NTBI, has not been explored. We modeled in vitro the effects of systemic iron overload on endothelial cells by treating primary human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) with NTBI (ferric ammonium citrate [FAC]). We showed by RNA-Seq that iron loading alters lipid homeostasis in HUVECs by inducing sterol regulatory element-binding protein 2–mediated cholesterol biosynthesis. We also determined that FAC increased the susceptibility of HUVECs to apoptosis induced by tumor necrosis factor-α (TNFα). Moreover, we showed that cholesterol biosynthesis contributes to iron-potentiated apoptosis. Treating HUVECs with a cholesterol chelator hydroxypropyl-β-cyclodextrin demonstrated that depletion of cholesterol was sufficient to rescue HUVECs from TNFα-induced apoptosis, even in the presence of FAC. Finally, we showed that FAC or cholesterol treatment modulated the TNFα pathway by inducing novel proteolytic processing of TNFR1 to a short isoform that localizes to lipid rafts. Our study raises the possibility that iron-mediated toxicity in human iron overload disorders is at least in part dependent on alterations in cholesterol metabolism in endothelial cells, increasing their susceptibility to apoptosis. 相似文献

The use of organic solvent-based media for microbial 9-hydroxylation of androstenedione (AD) by resting Rhodococcus sp. cells was evaluated. Product yields higher than 90% were observed in a two-phase phthalate-buffer transformation medium (3:1, v/v) containing 1.0 g L−1 AD. The results suggest that in these conditions the reaction of Δ1-dehydrogenation is considerably inhibited. The successful hydroxylation reaction with a product yield exceeding 60% was found to take place also in a phthalate medium under simultaneous forced aeration and maintenance of a minimum water content of about 3% (v/v). 相似文献

Post mortem brain studies indicate that alterations in serotonergic and catecholaminergic systems might be associated with Alzheimer's disease (AD). The aim of the study was to determine serotonin (5-HT) levels and monoamine oxidase type B (MAO-B) activity in platelets of psychotic and non-psychotic patients with AD, established according to the NINCDS-ADRDA and DSM-IV-TR criteria. Cognitive impairment and psychotic features were evaluated using Mini Mental Status Examination and Neuropsychiatric Inventory. Platelet 5-HT concentration and MAO-B activity were determined spectrofluorimetrically in 116 (51 male, 65 female) healthy subjects and 70 psychotic (10 male, 60 female) and 151 non-psychotic (32 male, 119 female) patients. Psychotic and non-psychotic female and psychotic male patients had significantly lower platelet 5-HT concentration than corresponding sex matched control subjects. Platelet MAO-B activity was significantly increased in both male and female non-psychotic patients compared to the sex matched controls. Non-psychotic female patients had significantly higher platelet MAO-B activity than psychotic female patients. Our data suggest that platelet MAO-B activity, but not platelet 5-HT concentration, could differentiate between psychotic and non-psychotic subtypes of AD. 相似文献
