To detect genetic markers, electrophoretic analyses were carried out onTetragonisca angustula, a stingless bee well adapted to its wide area of occurrence, which is becoming economically important because of the quality of its honey. Polymorphism of the enzyme hexokinase was detected and it was demonstrated that, although it presents two bands in meliponines, this enzyme is under the control of a single locus whose product probably undergoes postranslational modification. The more common allele occurs in the twoTetragonisca subspecies studied here, but the other seems to be characteristic of only one subspecies. Four variants involving the two glycerol-3-phosphate dehydrogenase loci are also described. These two enzymes share the property of presenting two electrophoretic bands, one of which is characteristic of actively flying adult thoraces.  相似文献

Summary A rat liver-derived epithelial cell line transformed withdl-ethionine and the corresponding control cell line were characterized according to morphological and cytochemical criteria to establish their origin from liver epithelium and to identify cellular changes due to transformation bydl-ethionine. The presence of intermediate junctions confirms the epithelial nature; glycogen accumulation and glucose-6-phosphatase activity confirm the hepatic origin of the cells. Persistent alterations resulting from ethionine transformation were variations in cell shape and size, focal multilayered growth, an increase in the nucleolar: nuclear ratio, and a reduction in the number of cells displaying a primary cilium. Hyperplasia of the inner nuclear membrane, elongation and branching of mitochondria, and a reduction in the length and frequency of cell junctions were also characteristic of the transformed cells.  相似文献

The Langmuir model fitted well the adsorption isotherms of lipase on the hydrophobic resin. The model parameters, Q m and k d, were affected by NaCl concentration: Q m increased from 31 to 80 U g–1 resin, and k d changed from 9.4 to 3 U ml–1. Column modelling and the simulation data were compared with the experimental data with good agreement. The highest achieved column efficiency was 71%.  相似文献

The phylogeny of the grey mullets is considered problematic both at the intra- and interfamily level. Such a difficulty arises from the highly homogeneous morphology displayed by this group of fish and, consequently, from the paucity of the key morphological characters suitable to address their phylogeny and evolution. In the present work, we have approached the phylogenetic and evolutionary relationships of seven species of Mugilidae, six of which from the Mediterranean Sea, on the basis of the DNA sequences of two mitochondrial genes (cytochromeband 12S rRNA). Despite the morphological homogeneity exhibited by the taxa considered, the two species of the genusMugil(M. cephalusandM. curema) showed a remarkable genetic divergence compared to all the other members of the family. The relative rate test revealed a significantly higher rate of evolution along theMugillineage.  相似文献

Surface features, anatomy, and ultrastructure of the floral nectary of Eccremocarpus scaber (Bignoniaceae), pollinated predominantly by the largest-known hummingbird (Patagona gigas gigas), were studied together with nectar sugar content and secretion rate. The annular disk nectary comprises epidermis, secretory and ground parenchyma with intercellular spaces, and branched vascular bundles terminating in the secretory parenchyma where only phloem is found. Amyloplasts and vacuoles increase in size throughout development, the latter becoming sites of organelle degradation. Transferlike cells in nectary phloem and P-proteinlike fibrillar material in phloem parenchyma were observed. Flowers produced around 32 μl of nectar (mostly after anthesis) with 11 mg of sugar composed of fructose, glucose, sucrose, and maltose in a ratio of 0.34:0.32:0.17:0.17. Morphological studies as well as the presence of maltose and glucose in nectar suggest storage of the originally phloem-derived sugars as starch with its subsequent hydrolysis. The low sucrose/hexose ratio (0.25) and high nectary secretion force (nectar per flower biomass) observed places E. scaber close to large-bodied bat-pollinated plants. A hypothesis based on nectar origin and nectar secretion is advanced to explain pollinator-correlated variation in sucrose/hexose ratio.  相似文献

  1. Detailed understanding of the mechanisms enabling or limiting the impacts of invasive generalist predators is needed. Harmonia axyridis is an invasive generalist coccinellid predator that may have destabilised coccinellid communities worldwide and is an excellent candidate for investigating invasion dynamics.
  2. We evaluated four hypotheses: (1) Nine years after being detected in Central Brazil, Ha. axyridis has dominated the coccinellid community. This is facilitated by (2) its broader aphid prey range than the other aphidophagous coccinellids, (3) its superiority as an asymmetrical intraguild predator, and (4) the invasibility of the present coccinellid community.
  3. We sampled the invertebrate communities associated with six organic vegetable farms in Brazil during 2017 and 2018, conducted a feeding trial to measure prey niche breadth and overlap, and estimated intra- and interspecific interaction strengths corresponding to first-order Lotka-Volterra parameters to evaluate the strength of intraguild predation and create a community matrix.
  4. We found (1) Ha. axyridis comprised ≤8.3% of the coccinellid community. (2) Hi. convergens had the broadest prey niche and dominated the prey niche of Ha. axyridis. (3) We could not determine from the population data if Ha. axyridis was the dominant intraguild predator because its density was too low and constant. (4) The community matrix indicated that the present-day coccinellid community was stable.
  5. We conclude Ha. axyridis has not become invasive in Central Brazil, in part because it does not have the broadest prey niche breadth and the present coccinellid community is stable to the present perturbation of Ha. axyridis.
