Zusammenfassung Die europäischen Littorina-Arten verfügen über keinerlei Osmoregulation.Kleine Individuen (Arten) haben kleine Kiemen, die Kiemen wachsen positiv allometrisch.Die Fortpflanzung zeigt keine parallel dem spezifischen Habitat zunehmende Neigung zur direkten Entwicklung.Die Littorina-Arten stellen kein Modell für die Entwicklung der Landschnecken dar, sie zeigen lediglich typische Charaktere von Tieren der Gezeitenzone.
The Littorina species of the European coasts: No model for the evolution of terrestrial gastropods
Summary The Littorina-species of the European coasts are completely isoosmotic with their environment.Small specimens (species) have very small gills; with increasing size the gills grow rapidly. The gills of different species of identical size show no difference. The reproduction does not trend towards direct development parallel to the habitat of the species.Therefore the Littorina species are no model for the evolution of terrestrial gastropods, their characteristics are merely those of intertidal animals.

Two strains of Rhodotorula and one of Trichosporon precipitated dissolved copper with H2S formed by reducing elemental sulfur with glucose. Iron stimulated this activity under certain conditions. In the case of Rhodotorula strain L, iron stimulated copper precipitation aerobically at a copper concentration of 18 but not 180 μg/ml. Anaerobically, the L strain required iron for precipitation of copper from a medium with 180 μg of copper per ml. Rhodotorula strain L was able to precipitate about five times as much copper anaerobically as aerobically. The precipitated copper was identified as copper sulfide, but its exact composition could not be ascertained. Iron was not precipitated by the H2S formed by any of the yeasts. Added as ferric iron, it was able to redissolve copper sulfide formed aerobically by Rhodotorula strain L from 18 but not 180 μg of copper per ml of medium. Since the yeasts were derived from acid mine-waters, their ability to precipitate copper may be of geomicrobial importance.  相似文献

In bacterial extraction of copper from low-grade copper sulfide ores, at least three contributions are made by Thiobacillus ferrooxidans. They are: (1) enzymatic oxidation and consequent solubilization of insoluble sulfides; (2) regeneration of ferric lixiviant for chemical oxidation and solubilization of insoluble sulfides; and (3) partial fixation of externally introduced iron in the ore. Although it is not possible at the present time to measure each of these contributions separately, it is possible to measure the combined contributions. Such measurements reveal a strong dependence of extraction efficiency on various physical, chemical, and biological factors. The following physical factors may affect the rate of bacterial copper extraction: particle-size of ore, oxygen and carbondioxide supply, oxidation-reduction potential, pH, temperature, adsorption and ion exchange capacity of ore, and surface tension effects. The following chemical factors may influence the rate of copper extraction: the mineralogy of the ore, the nature of the gangue, the distribution of the sulfide minerals in the host rock, the external supply of ferrous or ferric iron, and the availability of inorganic and organic nutrients. Finally, the following biological agents in addition to T. ferrooxidans may influence the rate of copper extraction: fungi, protozoa, Thiobacillus thiooxidans, and heterotrophic bacteria. Proper control of these various factors is essential for efficient bacterial extraction of copper from low-grade ore. It is recognized that the foregoing environmental factors also influence chemical copper extraction.  相似文献

Zusammenfassung An durch Perfusion mit Glutaraldehyd fixierten Rattengehirnen wurde das Erscheinungsbild der Mikropinozytose in Elementen der Meso- und Neuroglia sowie an den Perikarya und synaptischen Endformationen der Nervenzellen elektronenmikroskopisch dargestellt.Die bei der Mikropinozytose von der Zellmembran invaginierten Caveolen und Tubuli können einfache Verzweigungen zeigen. Ihre Oberfläche und die der mikropinozytotischen Bläschen zeigen an der gegen das Zytoplasma gerichteten Membranseite einen Stachelsaum. Diese Membrandifferenzierung dürfte mit der Resorption besonderer, zum Teil makromolekularer Substanzen zusammenhängen.Im Bereich großer Synapsen, z.B. in den Moosfasertelodendren der Glomerula cerebellaria oder in der Zona glomerulosa des Bulbus olfactorius sind mikropinozytotische Invaginationen und Bläschen sehr häufig. Möglicherweise übernehmen sie von den postsynaptischen Dendriten, die dünne Zytoplasmaprotrusionen in die Invaginationen hineinsenden, Stoffe. Es wird vermutet, daß es sich hierbei um inaktivierte Transmittersubstanz handelt, die auf diesem Wege dem präsynaptischen Abschnitt wieder zugeführt wird. Die zurückresorbierten Abbauprodukte der Transmittersubstanz werden in einem präsynaptischen Golgi-Komplex resynthetisiert und in synaptischen Bläschen angereichert. Dieses morphologische Bild ergänzt die biochemische Hypothese eines Acetylcholin-Kreislaufes im Bereich von Nervenendigungen.Entsprechende mikropinozytotische Erscheinungen wurden in caudalen Abdominalganglien von Leucophaea maderae beobachtet. Es wird angenommen, daß die Mikropinozytose ein allgemein verbreiteter Resorptionsmechanismus im Zentralnervensystem ist.Herrn Prof. Dr. F. Wassermann zum 80. Quantitative studies were conducted to evaluate the efficiency of the slit sampler in collecting airborne Serratia marcescens and Bacillus subtilis var. niger, and to compare it with the collecting efficiency of the all-glass impinger AGI-30. The slit sampler was approximately 50% less efficient than the AGI-30. This ratio remained the same whether liquid or dry cultures were disseminated when the sample was taken at 2 min of aerosol cloud life. At 30 min of aerosol cloud life, this ratio was approximately 30% for B. subtilis var. niger. S. marcescens recoveries by the slit sampler were, however, only 17% lower than the AGI-30 at 30 min of cloud age, indicating a possible interaction involving the more labile vegetative cells, aerosol age, and method of collection.  相似文献

Experiments were conducted to determine the effects of storage temperatures, relative humidity, and additives on the survival of aerosolized Escherichia coli phage T-3. The aerosol stability of the coliphage, calculated as per cent recovery, was not affected by storage at 10 or -70 C for up to 4 months. However, an increase in aerosol decay rate of coliphage stored at 10 C was observed. The effect of humidities ranging from 20 to 90% relative humidity was studied, and it was observed that humidities lower than 70% relative humidity significantly reduce the survival of airborne coliphage. The effect of various compounds on the aerosol decay rate of T-3 coliphage was studied at 50 and 85% relative humidity. Addition of dextrose in 0.1 M concentrations to the disseminating fluid significantly reduced aerosol decay rate at 50% relative humidity without affecting the decay at 85%. Addition of spermine, spermidine-phosphate, thiourea, galacturonic acid, and glucosaminic acid, individually or in combination, had no effect on aerosol decay rates. The use of deuterium oxide as the suspending fluid for dissemination had no effect on aerosol stability of the coliphage.  相似文献

Summary Time courses of phlorizin binding to the outside of membrane vesicles from porcine renal outer cortex and outer medulla were measured and the obtained families of binding curves were fitted to different binding models. To fit the experimental data a model with two binding sites was required. Optimal fits were obtained if a ratio of low and high affinity phlorizin binding sites of 1:1 was assumed. Na+ increased the affinity of both binding sites. By an inside-negative membrane potential the affinity of the high affinity binding site (measured in the presence of 3 mM Na+) and of the low affinity binding site (measured in the presence of 3 or 90 mM Na+) was increased. Optimal fits were obtained when the rate constants of dissociation were not changed by the membrane potential. In the presence of 90 mM Na+ on both membrane sides and with a clamped membrane potential,K D values of 0.4 and 7.9 M were calculated for the low and high affinity phlorizin binding sites which were observed in outer cortex and in outer medulla. Apparent low and high affinity transport sites were detected by measuring the substrate dependence ofd-glucose uptake in membrane vesicles from outer cortex and outer medulla which is stimulated by an initial gradient of 90 mM Na+(out>in). Low and high affinity transport could be fitted with identicalK m values in outer cortex and outer medulla. An inside-negative membrane potential decreased the apparentK m ofhigh affinity transport whereas the apparentK m of low affinity transport was not changed. The data show that in outer cortex and outer medulla of pighigh and low affinity Na+-d-glucose cotransporters are present which containlow and high affinity phlorizin binding sites, respectively. It has to be elucidated from future experiments whether equal amounts of low and high affinity transporters are expressed in both kidney regions or whether the low and high affinity transporter are parts of the same glucose transport moleculc.  相似文献
