Copolymers based on dithieno[3,2‐b:2′,3′‐d]silole (DTS) and dithienylthiazolo[5,4‐d]thiazole (TTz) are synthesized and tested in an all‐solution roll process for polymer solar cells (PSCs). Fabrication of polymer:[6,6]‐phenyl‐C61‐butyric acid methyl ester (PCBM) solar cells is done on a previously reported compact coating/printing machine, which enables the preparation of PSCs that are directly scalable with full roll‐to‐roll processing. The positioning of the side‐chains on the thiophene units proves to be very significant in terms of solubility of the polymers and consequently has a major impact on the device yield and process control. The most successful processing is accomplished with the polymer, PDTSTTz‐4 , that has the side‐chains situated in the 4‐position on the thiophene units. Inverted PSCs based on PDTSTTz‐4 demonstrate high fill factors, up to 59%, even with active layer thicknesses well above 200 nm. Power conversion efficiencies of up to 3.5% can be reached with the roll‐coated PDTSTTz‐4 :PCBM solar cells that, together with good process control and high device yield, designate PDTSTTz‐4 as a convincing candidate for high‐throughput roll‐to‐roll production of PSCs. 相似文献

The hellbender (Cryptobranchus alleganiensis) is an obligately aquatic salamander that is in decline due to habitat loss and disease. Two subspecies of hellbender have
been described based on morphological characteristics: C. a. alleganiensis (eastern subspecies) and C. a. bishopi (Ozark hellbender). Current conservation strategies include captive propagation for restorative releases even though information
regarding the current levels of genetic variability and structure within populations is not sufficient to effectively plan
for conservation of the genetic diversity of the species. To investigate patterns of population structure in the hellbender,
we genotyped 276 hellbenders from eight Missouri River drainages, representing both subspecies. Our results showed low levels
of within-drainage diversity but strong population structure among rivers, and three distinct genetic clusters. F

values ranged from 0.00 to 0.61 and averaged 0.40. Our results confirmed previous reports that C. a. bishopi and C. a. alleganiensis are genetically distinct, but also revealed an equidistant relationship between two groups within C. a. bishopi and all populations of C. a. alleganiensis. The mannitol cycle has been verified in a unicellular red alga (Rhodellophyceae) for the first time. All four enzymes involved in the cycle (mannitol-1-phosphate dehydrogenase, Mt1PDH: EC 1.1.1.17; mannitol-1-phosphatase, Mt1Pase: EC 3.1.3.22; mannitol dehydrogenase, MtDH: 1.1.1.67; hexokinase, HK: 2.7.1.1.) were detected and characterized in crude algal extracts from Dixoniella grisea. These enzymes, with the exception of Mt1Pase, were specific to their corresponding substrates and nucleotides. The activities of enzymes in the anabolic pathway (fructose-6-P reduction by Mt1PDH and mannitol-6-P reduction by Mt1Pase) were at least 2- to 4-fold greater than those of the catabolic pathway (mannitol oxidation by MtDH and fructose oxidation by HK). There appears to be, therefore, a net carbon flow in D. grisea towards a high intracellular mannitol pool. The mannitol cycle guarantees a rapid accumulation or degradation of mannitol within algal cells in response to changing salinity in natural habitats. Moreover, the demonstration of the mannitol cycle within the Rhodellophyceae provides evidence that this metabolic pathway is of ancient origin in the red algal lineage. 相似文献

Inverse correlations between genetic variability and parasitism are important concerns for conservation biologists. We examined correlations between neutral genetic variability and the presence of antibodies to canine distemper virus (CDV) and feline parvovirus (FPV) in a free-ranging population of raccoons. Over 3 years there was a strong relationship between age and seroprevalence rates. Most young animals were seronegative to CDV and FPV, but the oldest age class was greater than 80 per cent seropositive to both viruses. CDV-seropositive animals had greater heterozygosity and lower measures of inbreeding compared with CDV-seronegative animals. This relationship was strongest among the youngest animals and did not occur during a 1 year CDV epidemic. In contrast, FPV-seropositive animals only had significantly lower measures of inbreeding in 1 year, perhaps because FPV-associated mortality is relatively low or primarily occurs among very young individuals that were under-represented in our sampling. These results suggest that even in large outcrossing populations, animals with lower heterozygosity and higher measures of inbreeding are less likely to successfully mount an immune response when challenged by highly pathogenic parasites. 相似文献

Cuticular or “paper” coal-shale is a local deposit of an organic-rich, highly clastic rock, with abundant leaf and stem cuticles, associated with the Upper Block Coal Member in Parke County, Indiana. Fresh blocks of cuticular coal can be split along bedding surfaces to reveal a fossil flora of low diversity, dominated by pteridosperms and lycopods, with minor amounts of ferns and sphenopsids. Karinopteris is a subdominant component of this flora and the great abundance of well-preserved cuticles of this plant allows for a reconstruction of its frond and growth habit. Karinopteris appears to have been a vine, indicative of structural diversity in the plant assemblage. The plant assemblage of the cuticular coal is dissimilar to most midwestern coal-ball floras of slightly younger age. This is probably a result of the depositional setting in an upper deltaic-fluvial dominated environment. 相似文献

Alternative reproductive tactics can be maintained through differentevolutionary avenues. They can be genetically or stochasticallydetermined, in which case they must yield equal fitness, ortheir use can be conditional, in which case the fitness payoffof alternatives may differ. We attempted to assess the reproductivesuccess of alternative reproductive tactics employed by wildmale and female burying beetles in natural associations on carcassesplaced in the field. A beetle's reproductive tactic was definedby its potential involvement in care of larvae, and parentagewas assessed using oligolocus DNA fingerprinting of offspringand potential parents. Both in males and in females, alternativetactics yielded significantly different reproductive benefits:subordinate females (brood parasites) and males (satellite males)had considerably lower reproductive success than dominant oruncontested individuals. Joint breeding was too infrequent forstatistical inferences, generating intermediate offspring numbers.About 15% of offspring were sired by males not present on thecarcass, suggesting that mating away from reproductive resourcescan produce reproductive benefits to males. Our results, inconcert with the observation that beetles using one tactic canbe manipulated into employing the alternative, support the notionthat Nicrophorus vespilloides uses alternatives conditionally,opportunistically employing lower-benefit tactics when moreprofitable tactics are not available, or as additional "on-the-side"tactics to bolster reproductive success. 相似文献
