Acanthamoeba castellanii promotion of in vitro survival and transmission of coxsackie b3 viruses 下载免费PDF全文
This work was undertaken to determine whether Acanthamoeba could play a role in the survival and transmission of coxsackieviruses and focused on in vitro interactions between Acanthamoeba castellanii and coxsackie B3 viruses (CVB-3). Residual virus titer evaluations and immunofluorescence experiments revealed a remarkable CVB-3 adsorption on amoeba surfaces and accumulation inside cells. The survival of viruses was independent of the dynamics of amoeba replication and encystment. In addition, our results indicated that virus-infected amoebas can release infectious viruses during interaction with human macrophages. On the basis of these data, Acanthamoeba appears to be a potential promoter of the survival of coxsackieviruses and their transmission to human hosts. 相似文献

Limonium avei is an annual species occurring in the salt‐marshes and in limited surfaces of rocky areas around the Mediterranean coasts. Seed lots from five populations of this species, along a latitudinal gradient, were analyzed using an image analysis system to detect differences in seed morphology among populations. Germination requirements at constant (5–25°C) and alternating temperatures (25/10°C), both in light and in darkness, were evaluated for all populations, as well as the effect of the calyx removal on final seed germination and its rate. Morpho‐colorimetric analysis clearly identified seeds from different populations, habitats and substrates without misattributions among them. The calyx slowed the germination process, influencing both final germination and rate with respect to naked seeds. Seeds from all populations germinated with significantly higher percentages in the light, with respect to those incubated in the darkness, and showed rapid germination (time in days to reach 50% of germination: 0.5 days) at the warmer tested temperature (25°C). High germination (>80%) was also detected for seeds of all the investigated populations, except for those from the Apulian region (South Italy, ca. 60%). Our results highlight that L. avei has a high variability in seed morphology, probably habitat induced, and a fast germination response for all populations. Rapid germination may be an adaptive strategy that allows L. avei seeds to take advantage of transient favorable conditions during the germination stage, to ensure seedling establishment under the unpredictable rainfall pattern in the Mediterranean climate. 相似文献

The presence of nitrate in the seed and its utilization duringanaerobic germination of rice (Oryza sativa L.) were studied. The results indicate that nitrate was reduced and assimilatedby the coleoptile for 11 days during anaerobic growth aftergermination. The importance of the anoxic utilization of nitrateis discussed. (Received June 19, 1992; Accepted January 4, 1993) 相似文献

Summary Incorporation of15NO3- into amino acids was studied in 3-day-old aerobic rice seedlings (with coleoptile and root) subjected for 24h to anaerobic conditions. The incorporation of15N into glutamate, glutamine and alanine accounted for 89% and 84% of total incorporation in coleoptile and root, respectively. These findings indicate that, after the primary incorporation of15N into glutamate and glutamine, the main fate of nitrate nitrogen in rice seedlings subjected to anoxia is alanine. 相似文献

Microbial resistance to antibiotics affects the control of clinical infections and is a growing concern in global public health. One important mechanism whereby micro-organisms acquire resistance is biofilm formation. This context has led to the investigation of new antimicrobial substances from plants popularly used in folk medicine. In this work, we studied the antimicrobial and antibiofilm activity of Zinnia peruviana roots, ziniolide (major root metabolite) and aerial parts against Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Listeria monocytogenes, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Candida albicans. The minimum inhibitory and minimum microbicidal concentration and inhibition of biofilm production was determined. All Z. peruviana extracts showed antimicrobial activity, but that corresponding to the roots was the most active one. The best inhibitory and microbicidal activity was detected against Gram-positive bacteria (0·039–0·078 mg ml−1). The acetonic extract from Z. peruviana leaves showed moderate activity against Gram-positive bacteria (0·625 mg ml−1). Acetonic extract of Z. peruviana flowers showed weak activity (1·25–5 mg ml−1). All the extracts tested showed inhibition of biofilm formation, as well as the ziniolide, however, roots and flowers extracts showed higher antibiofilm activity particularly against Staphylococcus, Listeria and Candida. The extracts tested may be a promising natural alternative for the control of microbial infections. 相似文献

In this study, a statistical classifier for Mediterranean taxa of Juniperus, based on 98 seed morphometric parameters, was tested at interspecific, specific and intraspecific levels. Ripe cones of 10 taxa were collected in different regions of the Mediterranean Basin to compare and discuss their taxonomic treatments according to two different sources. High percentages of correct identification were reached for both taxonomic treatments at the specific and intraspecific level and from the comparison among taxa of the J. oxycedrus, J. communis and J. phoenicea complexes. Moreover, ripe cones of J. macrocarpa were collected from four Sardinian populations, in two seasons, and from plant and soil, in order to analyse inter-population, seasonal and source variability in seed morphology. This statistical classifier discriminated J. macrocarpa seeds collected in spring more accurately than those collected in autumn, but it failed to distinguish between the seeds collected from plants and soil, or between those collected from different populations of the same geographic region. 相似文献

Ferredoxin-dependent glutamate synthase (Fd-Gogat; EC 1.4.7.1) in leaf and root plastids is the last enzyme involved in the
pathway of nitrate assimilation in higher plants. Arabidopsis thaliana expresses two different genes: the first, light regulated, specific of green tissues and the second expressed in other tissues.
In this work, we investigated whether in our clone, OsGog2 AC Y12595, this gene is up-regulated by light or it is expressed
under darkness. Fd-Gogat specific activity, protein and mRNA increased after light treatment in rice shoots. In roots, the
activity and the protein content remained constant, whereas the mRNA is repressed by light treatment. The results obtained
using a specific probe, situated in the 3′ untranslated region of the OsGog2 cDNA, indicated that OsGog2 gene is up-regulated by light and that its expression is tissue specific and suggested that a dark expressed Fd-Gogat gene
could be present in rice similarly as in Arabidopsis. 相似文献
