Abstract:  Eshanosaurus deguchiianus is based on a single left dentary from the Lower Lufeng Formation (Lower Jurassic) of Yunnan Province, China. It was originally identified as the earliest known member of Therizinosauroidea (Theropoda: Coelurosauria), a conclusion that results in a significant downward range extension for this clade (>65 million years) and for many other major lineages within Coelurosauria. However, this interpretation has been questioned and several authors have proposed that the anatomical features used to refer Eshanosaurus to Therizinosauroidea are more consistent with attribution to a basal sauropodomorph dinosaur. Detailed consideration of the holotype specimen suggests that several features of the dentary and dentition exclude Eshanosaurus from Sauropodomorpha and support its inclusion within Therizinosauroidea. If accepted as an Early Jurassic coelurosaur, Eshanosaurus has important implications for understanding the timing and tempo of early theropod diversification. Moreover, its provenance also suggests that substantial portions of the coelurosaur fossil record may be missing or unsampled. However, the Early Jurassic age of Eshanosaurus requires confirmation if this taxon is to be fully incorporated into broader evolutionary studies.  相似文献

Abstract:  In this paper, we document Palaeogene occurrences of the extant nannoplankton genera Gladiolithus, Algirosphaera and Solisphaera from claystones of the Kilwa Group microfossil lagerstätte, coastal Tanzania. In the modern ocean, these taxa are restricted to tropical and subtropical lower photic zone habitats (100–200 m). All three genera produce small and/or fragile coccoliths, which have not previously been found as fossils or are only found in late Quaternary sediments. Their presence in the Kilwa Group sediments demonstrates the exceptional quality of preservation and provides a minimum origination time for these ecologically specialized nannoplankton. Gladiolithus is present in the oldest Palaeogene Kilwa Group material studied (late Paleocene, c . 59 Ma), which pushes back the origination time for lower photic zone coccolithophores by over 40 million years. The co-occurrence of several species of Gladiolithus alongside Algirosphaera and Solisphaera suggests that a relatively diverse lower photic zone assemblage was established by at least the Eocene. The abundant and consistent occurrence of specimens that are indistinguishable from the modern species Gladiolithus flabellatus has been observed in samples of late Paleocene (Nannofossil Zone NP6) to early Oligocene (Nannofossil Zone NP21) age and support an open ocean palaeoenvironmental interpretation for the Kilwa Group sediments. We describe three new species of Gladiolithus , G. brevis , G. ornatus and G. contus and one new combination, Algirosphaera fabaceus.  相似文献

Abstract: Numerous new cases of preserved shell microstructure were discovered in molluscs from the Middle Cambrian Gowers Formation (Ptychagnostus atavus/Peronopsis opimus Zone, Floran Stage) in the Georgina Basin, Australia. The new data provide further evidence that, by the Middle Cambrian, molluscan shell microstructures were diverse, and many molluscs had a complex shell with multiple types of shell microstructure. In addition, many new occurrences of laminar microstructures are described herein. For many, the nature of these laminar microstructures is not known, but in three species the microstructure is foliated calcite, and in at least two the microstructure is more likely to have been calcitic semi‐nacre, a type of microstructure known in brachiopods and bryozoans but unknown in modern molluscs. This commonality among these three closely related lophotrochozoans underscores a similar mechanism of biomineralization. Moreover, these observations suggest a prevalence of calcite‐shelled lineages among molluscs from the Middle Cambrian, a time of calcite seas. In addition, the broad occurrence of laminar, nacre‐like microstructures in many of these fossils reveals how widespread these strong (fracture‐resistant) microstructures were in Middle Cambrian molluscs. Additionally, a few specimens of Yochelcionella preserve imprints of a bilaterally symmetrical pair of muscle scars. New taxa described here include Corystos thorntoniensis gen. et sp. nov., Yochelcionella snorkorum sp. nov., Yochelcionella saginata sp. nov., and Anhuiconus? agrenon sp. nov.  相似文献

A new class of selective alpha(1) adrenoceptor antagonists derived from the antipsychotic drug sertindole is described. The most potent and selective compound 1-(2-(4-[5-aminomethyl-1-(4-fluorophenyl)-1H-indol-3-yl]-1-piperidinyl)ethyl)-2-imidazolidinone (11) binds with 0.50 nM affinity for alpha(1) adrenergic receptors and with more than 44 times lower affinity for dopamine D(2),D(3), D(4) and serotonin 5-HT(1A), 5-HT(1B), 5-HT(2A) and 5-HT(2C) receptors. The molecular features providing high affinity for adrenergic alpha(1) receptors and high selectivity towards dopamine D(2) and serotonin 5-HT(2A) and 5-HT(2C) receptors are discussed.  相似文献

The tyrosine family site-specific recombinases, in contrast to the related type I topoisomerases, which act as monomers on a single DNA molecule, rely on multi-protein complexes to synapse partner DNAs and coordinate two sequential strand exchanges involving four nicking-closing reactions. Here, we analyze three mutants of the catalytic domain of lambda integrase (Int), A241V, I353M and W350ter that are defective for normal recombination, but possess increased topoisomerase activity. The mutant enzymes can carry out individual DNA strand exchanges using truncated substrates or Holliday junctions, and they show more DNA-cleavage activity than wild-type Int on isolated att sites. Structural modeling predicts that the substituted residues may destabilize interactions between the C-terminal beta-strand (beta7) of Int and the core of the protein. The cleavage-competent state of Int requires the repositioning of the nucleophile (Y342) located on beta6 and the catalyst K235 located on the flexible beta2-beta3 loop, relative to their positions in a crystal structure of the inactive conformation. We propose that the anchoring of beta7 against the protein core restrains the movement of Tyr342 and/or Lys235, causing an attenuation of cleavage activity in most contexts. Within a bona fide recombination complex, the release of strand beta7 would allow Tyr342 and Lys235 to assume catalytically active conformations in coordination with other Int protomers in the complex. The loss of beta7 packing by misalignment or truncation in the mutant proteins described here causes a loss of regulated activity, thereby favoring DNA cleavage activity in monomeric complexes and forfeiting the coordination of strand-exchange necessary for efficient recombination.  相似文献

The site-specific recombinase (Int) of bacteriophage lambda is a heterobivalent DNA-binding protein that binds two different classes of DNA-binding sites within its recombination target sites. The several functions of Int are apportioned between a large carboxy-terminal domain that cleaves and ligates DNA at each of its four "core-type" DNA-binding sites and a small amino-terminal domain, whose primary function is binding to each of its five "arm-type" DNA sites, which are distant from the core region. Int bridges between the two classes of binding sites are facilitated by accessory DNA-bending proteins that along with Int comprise higher-order recombinogenic complexes. We show here that although the 64 amino-terminal residues of Int bind efficiently to a single arm site, this protein cannot form doubly bound complexes on adjacent arm sites. However, 1-70 Int does show the same cooperative binding to adjacent arm sites as the full length protein. We also found that 1-70 Int specifies cooperative interactions with the accessory protein Xis when the two are bound to their adjacent cognate sites P2 and X1, respectively. To complement the finding that these two amino-terminal domain functions (along with arm DNA binding) are all specified by residues 1-70, we determined that Thr75 is the first residue of the minimal carboxy-terminal domain, thereby identifying a specific interdomain linker region. We have measured the affinity constants for Int binding to each of the five arm sites and the cooperativity factors for Int binding to the two pairs of adjacent arm sites, and we have identified several DNA structural features that contribute to the observed patterns of Int binding to arm sites. Taken together, the results highlight several interesting features of arm DNA binding that invite speculation about additional levels of complexity in the regulation of lambda site-specific recombination.  相似文献
