Naturally occurring genetic variation for contents of cationic minerals in seeds of Arabidopsis thaliana was studied by screening a series of accessions (ecotypes) for Ca, Fe, K, Mg, Mn, Na, Zn, and for total contents of P. Variation was observed for all minerals and correlations between contents of various minerals were present, most noticeably between Ca and Mg, P and Mg, and P and Mn. The genetic basis of this variation was further studied by QTL analysis, using the Landsberg erecta (Ler) × Cape Verde Islands (Cvi) recombinant inbred population. For all minerals, except Na, one or more QTL were detected, explaining up to 78% of the variation. The map positions of several QTL were confirmed by analysis of near isogenic lines, carrying small Cvi introgressions in Ler background. Interesting co‐locations of QTL suggest pleiotropic effects, due to physiological coupling of the accumulation of certain minerals or to linkage of different genes. By comparing the map positions of QTL with the positions of genes expected to play a role in cation translocation, several candidate genes are suggested.  相似文献

Whereas most spiders are asocial, species in eight familiesare known to live all their life in communities and are thus"permanent-social." Their special attributes are: tolerance,interattraction, and cooperation. These peculiarities must havebeen achieved step by step several times independently. Periodic-socialspiders have been studied as a link between asocial and permanent-socialspiders. In two families—the cribellate Eresidae and ecribellateTheridiidae—different steps of periodic sociality havebeen discovered, from brood-care to feeding by regurgitation.The comparative study of the phylogeny of social behavior inboth families uncovers remarkable convergences of patterns fromasocial to permanent-social via periodical-social species ofspiders.  相似文献

SYNOPSIS. Eimeria kinsellai sp. n. is described from the marsh rice rat Oryzomys palustris from Florida. Its ellipsoidal oocysts were 23–31 by 15–19 μ (mean 26.7 by 16.9 μ). One to four polar granules were present but an oocyst residuum was absent. The sporocysts were 12–15 by 7–9 μ (mean 13.9 by 8.1 μ), and sporocyst residua were present.  相似文献

SYNOPSIS. In young first generation schizonts of E. bovis, the nuclei appeared to have a random distribution. In calves killed 8 days after inoculation some of the schizonts had the nuclei arranged in a single layer at the periphery, with a few infoldings of this layer into the interior. In further development, such ingrowths of the nuclear layer resulted in the formation of compartments of varying size. In schizonts of calves killed 12 days after inoculation spherical or ellipsoidal bodies (blastophores), about 5–20 μ in diameter with a single peripheral layer of nuclei were formed. Merozoites developed as radial outgrowths from the blastophores, leaving residual bodies of variable size, which later disappeared. The response of the host cell to the presence of the schizont was characterized by marked growth of both the nucleus and cytoplasm. The nucleolus became greatly enlarged, and the chromatin was distributed in relatively fine granules. In the host cell cytoplasm, 2 concentric layers were observed; the inner was more dense than the outer. After growth of the schizont was completed its host cell was stretched into a thin covering layer about 1 μ thick. In some schizonts, the host cell disintegrated, and the schizont was then invaded by eosinophils, macrophages and other cells, which eventually destroyed the merozoites.  相似文献

In Cymbidium flowers emasculation by removal of the anther capand the pollinia, led to rapid colouration of the lip and advancedwilting of the petals and sepals. The ethylene production ofwhole flowers showed an emasculation-induced early peak in ethyleneevolution followed some days later by a second increase concomitantwith the wilting of the flower. In non-emasculated flowers theethylene production increased later and simultaneously withcolouration of the lip and wilting of the petals and sepals.At all stages of senescence, the contribution of the lip, petals,and sepals to the total amount of ethylene produced was negligible. Parallel to the increase in ethylene production of whole flowers,an increase in 1-aminocyclopropane-l-carboxylic acid (ACC) andmalonyl-ACC (MACC) in the central column and, to a lesser extent,in the ovary was observed. Also an increase in internal ethyleneconcentration was demonstrated and this, in contrast, was apparentin all the different flower parts. The activity of the ethylene-formingenzyme in lips, petals, and sepals showed an increase afteremasculation and such an effect could also be induced by treatmentof isolated lips with low concentrations of ethylene. The data indicate that senescence in Cymbidium flowers is regulatedby the central column and perhaps the ovary and that both ACCand ethylene may play a signalling role in inter-organ communication.
