In terms of control of slug pests, the differing modes of action of the two molluscicides metaldehyde and methiocarb appear to provide some advantages for the former during warm, dry weather and for the latter during cool, wet weather. With a view to exploiting these different modes of action, the feeding behaviour of Deroceras reticulatum (Müller) presented with molluscicidal baits containing various combinations of metaldehyde with methiocarb was investigated. Voluntary feeding trials conducted in the laboratory with both candidate and standard treatments (containing metaldehyde or methiocarb alone) are described. By combining the two active ingredients in certain ratios the total concentration of active ingredients may be reduced without adversely affecting the efficacy of a bait formulation in terms of slug mortality. 相似文献

The flexuous filamentous particles of wineberry latent virus (WLV) were found to measure 620. 12 nm and not 510. 12 nm as previously reported. Analysis of dsRNA from infected plants detected a major species of c. 5.7. 106 mol. wt and minor species of lower mol. wt. Purified virus particles formed a major and a minor buoyant density component in solutions of caesium salts with densities of 1.26 and 1.25 g cm-3 in Cs2SO4 and 1.30 and 1.29 g cm-3 in CsCl. The particles contained a single nucleic acid species, presumably single stranded RNA, and a single polypeptide of estimated mol. wt 2.78. 106 and 31 000 respectively. In indirect ELISA, purified particles of WLV and particles in plant sap failed to react specifically with antiserum to nine carlaviruses, 12 potexviruses, three capilloviruses or apple chlorotic leafspot closterovirus, nor was WLV found to react with several of these antisera in immunosorbent electron microscopy or immunoblots. In Marion and Olallie blackberry, WLV in mixture with raspberry bushy dwarf virus (RBDV), but not RBDV alone, induced veinal line-pattern symptoms resembling those of calico disease reported from the USA. 相似文献

Calcicolous plants are generally more Fe-efficient than calcifugous plants, because they respond to Fe stress by releasing H-ions and “reductants” from their roots that causes Fe to become available. The objective of our study was to determine if differential response to Fe stress in calcicolous and calcifugous varieties affects nitrate reductase activity. T3238FER (Fe-efficient) and T3238fer (Fe-inefficient) tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum Mill.) cultivars were grown in nutrient solutions supplied with N as NH4+-N plus NO3?-N, and as NO3?-N only. The chemical reactions induced by Fe stress concomitantly increased nitrate reductase activity in roots and tops of calcicolous, but not in calcifugous tomato. This nitrate reductase activity decreased, however, when Fe was made available to the plants. When Fe stress was eliminated by adding Fe, nitrate reductase activity was comparable in the two cultivars. 相似文献

Because there is some evidence that June Yellows (JY) of strawberry may be caused by a pathogenic agent, combinations of heat treatment and meristem-tip culture that are known to eliminate some viruses from tissues were used in attempts to cure affected Cambridge Favourite strawberry plants from JY. None of 397 propagants derived from JY-affected plants subjected to various combinations of these treatments were freed from JY. Indeed, all propagants showed more obvious JY symptoms than the parent plants from which they were derived, suggesting that such treatments may be useful for detecting incipient JY in symptomless strawberry stocks. 相似文献

Khaosokia caricoides , D.A. Simpson, Chayam. & J. Parn., a newly discovered genus and species of Cyperaceae is described and illustrated. The genus is characterized by a narrowly paniculate dioecious inflorescence with 2–4 nodes, each of the nodes having a leaf-like inflorescence bract that exceeds the inflorescence. Spikelets in both sexes are linear-cylindric and each flower has seven perianth bristles. The nutlet was immature in the specimens examined. The photosynthetic pathway is C3 . Khaosokia is endemic to limestone cliffs in peninsular Thailand; its conservation status is assessed as Vulnerable (VU B1a + 2a). It has affinities to tribes Cariceae, Dulichieae and some members of Scirpeae, but the exact nature of these relationships has yet to be determined. Changes in Internal Water Relations and Osmotic Properties of Leaves in Maturing Soybean Plants 总被引:1,自引:1,他引:1
The changes in the internal water relations of soybean (Glycinemax L. Merr.) leaves during vegetative and reproductive growthwere studied by following the changes in the pressure-volumecurves of soybean leaves. The results demonstrate that soybeanleaves undergo a change in their osmotic properties which coincideswith the onset of active reproductive growth and is not inducedby water stress. The observed osmotic changes resulted in anincrease in the leaf relative water content at any given bulkleaf water potential. The volume of leaf water loss needed toreduce turgor potential to zero did not change following thischange in osmotic properties. The degree of turgor maintenanceafter the change in osmotic properties depended on the abilityto maintain adequate leaf relative water content. The observedchanges in bulk osmotic potential of the soybean leaves wouldcontribute to increased leaf-soil water potential gradientsand therefore to improved ability to extract the remaining soilwater as the season progressed. 相似文献
