The FGS/Nga mouse strain, established from an outcross between CBA/N and RFM/Nga mice strains, has previously been reported as a spontaneous mouse model for focal glomerular sclerosis (FGS) and is considered to have two pairs of autosomal recessive genes associated with FGS. In this study, we examined the changes of seven renal lesion-related parameters, blood urea nitrogen (BUN), creatinine, albumin and total protein in plasma, urinary protein, systolic blood pressure, and a glomerulosclerosis index on histological observation, in 20-week-old FGS/Nga mice and their age-matched two parental strains, CBA/N and RFM/Nga. The levels of plasma BUN and creatinine, urinary protein and systolic blood pressure were significantly increased in FGS/Nga, compared with those of the parental strains. RFM/Nga mice showed slightly elevated levels of all biochemical makers. In histological analysis, a higher glomerulosclerosis index was observed in FGS/Nga than the two parental strains. RFM/Nga mice appeared to have slight sclerotic lesions of glomeruli, but no renal failure was observed in CBA/N mice. These results suggest that at least one mutant gene that causes the progression of renal lesion in FGS/Nga mice is derived from RFM/Nga. 相似文献

A new genus of Pfiesteria‐like heterotrophic dinoflagellate, Luciella gen. nov., and two new species, Luciella masanensis sp. nov. and Luciella atlantis sp. nov., are described. These species commonly occur with other small (<20 μm) heterotrophic and mixotrophic dinoflagellates in estuaries from Florida to Maryland and the southern coast of Korea, suggesting a possible global distribution. An SEM analysis indicates that members of the genus Luciella have the enhanced Kofoidian plate formula of Po, cp, X, 4′, 2a, 6″, 6c, PC, 5+s, 5?, 0p, and 2″″. The two four‐sided anterior intercalary plates are diamond shaped. The genus Luciella differs from the other genera in the Pfiesteriaceae by a least one plate in the plate tabulation and in the configuration of the two anterior intercalary plates. An SSU rDNA phylogenetic analysis confirmed the genus as monophyletic and distinct from the other genera in the Pfiesteriaceae. The morphology of Luciella masanensis closely resembles Pfiesteria piscicida Steid. et J. M. Burkh. and other Pfiesteria‐like dinoflagellates in size and shape, making it easily misidentified using LM. Luciella atlantis, in contrast, has a more distinctive morphology. It can be distinguished from L. masanensis and other Pfiesteria‐like organisms by a larger cell size, a more conical‐shaped epitheca and hypotheca, larger rhombic‐shaped intercalary plates, and an asymmetrical hypotheca. The genus Luciella is assigned to the order Peridiniales and the family Pfiesteriaceae based on plate tabulation, plate pattern, general morphology, and phylogenetic analysis. 相似文献

Above- and belowground biomass and nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P) distribution within threeQuercus acutissima stands were investigated in central Korea. The average age (year) and diameter at breast height (DBH, cm) were 10.8 and 7.9
for Stand 1, 38.2 and 17.1 for Stand 2, and 44.0 and 20.7 for Stand 3, respectively. Fifteen trees were destructively harvested
for dimension analysis of component biomass (stem wood, stem bark, foliage, branches, and roots) plus N and P concentrations.
Total biomass (t ha-1) was 88.7 for Stand 1, 154.9 for Stand 2, and 278.1 for Stand 3 while N and P contents in all tree components (kg ha-1) were 483.3 and 52.2, 697.1 and 55.0, and 1113.9 and 83.7. Nitrogen concentrations were highest in the foliage, followed
by the stem bark, branches or roots, and stem wood. In contrast, P concentrations were greatest in the roots, then foliage,
branches, stem bark, and stem wood. In general, N and P concentrations in these components significantly decreased with tree
age and DBH, while N and P contents significantly increased with age and size. These relationships were stronger for size
than for age. Our current data could be utilized to estimate N and P budgets for silvicultural practices, including fertilization,

BACKGROUND: Previous reports have linked the spiking or two-phased character of calcium transients evoked by platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF) to the position of cells in the cell cycle without regard to cell-cell contact and communication. Because cell confluence can regulate growth factor receptor expression and dephosphorylation, we investigated the effect of cell culture confluence and cell cycle on calcium responses of PDGF-BB-stimulated A172 glioblastoma cells. METHODS: Digital imaging cytometry was used to correlate the peak and duration of calcium response with bromodeoxyuridine positivity and DNA content and with culture confluence on a cell-by-cell basis. RESULTS: In serum-starved cultures, complete two-phase calcium signals and shorter, lower spikes occurred independent of cell cycle phase. However, the confluence of cell culture seemed essential for inducing a complete response because cells in sparse cultures exhibited mostly short spikes with lower peaks or no transients at all. CONCLUSION: Because cell confluence, by virtue of cell-cell contacts, is assumed to be an important regulator of proliferation, one is tempted to speculate that in transformed cells the ability to produce stronger growth signals upon reaching confluence and facing contact inhibition could provide a proliferative advantage. 相似文献

To evaluate the biological and biochemical characteristics of Trichomonas vaginalis KT9 isolate, the growth and size of trichomonads, pathogenicity in mouse, protein profiles and proteinase activity were examined after shifting the medium from TPS-1 into TYM. Generation time of trichomonads in TYM medium was 4.5 hr in comparison to TPS-1 with 7.1 hr. Size of trichomonads cultured in TPS-1 medium (8.5 ± 0.9 × 6.0 ± 0.9 µm) was significantly smaller than those in TYM medium (10.9 ± 1.4 × 8.2 ± 0.9 µm). Trichomonads cultured in TYM medium produced subcutaneous abscess in 9 out of 10 mice, whereas those in TPS-1 medium produced abscesses in 2 out of 10 mice. In SDS-PAGE, trichomonad lysates from both media showed ten common bands. However, trichomonads in TYM medium showed additional bands of 136 kDa, 116 kDa and 40 kDa in comparison to those in TPS-1 with 100 kDa. By immunoblot with T. vaginalis-immunized rabbit sera, T. vaginalis cultivated in both TYM and TPS-1 media showed 5 common bands, and unique bands of 116 kDa, 105 kDa, and 86 kDa were observed in trichomonads in TYM while a 140 kDa band in those in TPS-1. In gelatin SDS-PAGE, trichomonads in TYM degraded gelatin stronger than those in TPS-1. Also protease activity of trichomonads in TYM was significantly higher than that of trichomonads in TPS-1 using Bz-Pro-Phe-Arg-Nan as a substrate. According to the results, it is assumed that the shift from TPS-1 into TYM medium for cultivation of T. vaginalis might modulate the biological and biochemical properties of T. vaginalis in vitro. 相似文献
