Nomenclatural remarks on the association names ofNardus stricta-rich communities in Central Europe

The present paper gives comments on the nomenclature of associations ofNardetalia andNardo-Caricion rigidae from Central Europe. A brief list of important homonyms and ambiguous names is added.     

Effect of inorganic phosphate on the secretion of pectinolytic enzymes by Aspergillus niger

Inorganic phosphates, taken as NaH₂PO₄ or KH₂PO₄, stimulated the production of pectinolytic enzymes and enhanced by up to two-fold the growth of Aspergillus niger in submerged liquid culture of apple pomace. Production of extracellular enzymes of endo- and exo- types, showed a different response to concentrations of phosphate in the medium.     

Phosphorylation of atrial natriuretic factor R1 receptor by serine/threonine protein kinases: evidences for receptor regulation

The 130 kDa atrial natriuretic factor receptor (ANF-R₁) purified from bovine adrenal zona glomerulosa is phosphorylated in vitro by serine/threonine protein kinases such as cAMP-, cGMP-dependent and protein kinase C. This phosphorylation is independent of the presence of ANF (99–126) and there is no detectable intrinsic kinase activity associated with the ANF-R₁ receptor or with its activated form. In bovine adrenal zona glomerulosa cells, TPA (phorbol ester) induces a marked inhibition of the ANF-stimulated cGMP accumulation as well as of the membrane ANF-sensitive guanylate cyclase catalytic activity without any change in the binding capacity or affinity for ¹²⁵I-ANF. However, we have demonstrated a significant ³²P incorporation in the ANF-R₁ receptor of the TPA-treated cells. The effect of TPA on the zona glomerulosa ANF-R₁ receptors was abolished by calphostin C, a specific protein kinase C inhibitor. Deletion ΔF508 and haplotype analysis of CFTR gene region in Slovak CF patients

Summary Analysis of a sample of 50 unrelated cystic fibrosis (CF) patients and 46 nuclear families from Slovakia (Czechoslovakia) by the polymerase chain reaction and Southern hybridization revealed that the proportion of the F508 mutation was 58% in this population, and that the frequency of the B (i.e., KM19/XV2c [1–2]) haplotype was increased in both F508 and nonF508 CF chromosomes (98% and 46%, respectively). These results support the view that the trans-European gradient of the F508 frequency is of a geographical rather than of an ethnic origin, and that in Slavonic populations, there exists an as yet unidentified but frequent CF mutation other than F508, associated with the B haplotype.     

Fractionation of eukaryotic DNA in a pulsating electrical field. I. Detection and properties of discrete DNA fragments]

The fractionation of eukaryotic DNA by field inversion gel electrophoresis results in the appearance of discrete DNA-fragments. The set of these fragments is similar to that of different eukaryotic representatives and consists of various chromosomal DNAs, unified by size. The physical properties of DNA-fragments suggest that they can form multimeric structures due to the presence of sticky ends flanking discrete fragments. We suppose that the set of discrete DNA-fragments results in a specific cleavage of intact nuclear DNA and can reflect different levels of chromatin structural organization.     

Ethmoidal endocranium in primitive triassic amphibians

Three-dimensionally preserved and chemically prepared skulls and natural casts of representatives of the families Benthosuchidae, Melosauridae, and Capitosauridae yield data on the structure of the ethmoidal endocranium, i. e. of those nasal cranial structures that consisted originally of cartilage. This study demonstrates that the ethmoidal endocranium was principally a dorsoventrally compressed plate, pierced by a broad and oblique canal which communicated anteriorly with the outer dorsal surface by the fenestra endonarina and posteriorly with the mouth cavity by the fenestra endochoanalis(seu foris). The canal was very short, and housed the olfactory organ. The ethmoidal endocranium was connected with the palatoquadrate by the commissura quadratocranialis anterior; there was no lateral ethmoidal commissure, however, in older individuals the anterior section of the palatoquadrate might also contact the postchoanal part of the nasal endocranial skeleton.     

Ligninolytic properties of different white-rot fungi

Summary Seven white-rot fungi were examined for the production of ligninase, manganese peroxidase and laccase. All these enzymes were found inTrametes gibbosa andTrametes hirsuta. Only manganese peroxidase and laccase were produced byPycnoporus cinnabarinus,Coriolopsis polyzona,Stereum hirsutum,Dichomitus squalens andGanoderma valesiacum. All fungi decolorized Poly B-411 and Indulin AT plates with low-N medium. The differences in enzyme pattern indicate that different species of fungi may employ different modes of lignin metabolism.     

Inside-out integrin signalling.

Integrins are expressed by virtually all cells and play key roles in a range of cellular processes. Changes in the integrin surface repertoire provide a means of altering the strength and ligand preferences of cell adhesion. Recent research has examined the affinity modulation of integrins, a rapid and versatile mechanism of cell adhesion regulation. Studies with a prototype, alpha IIb beta 3, indicate that intracellular events influence the conformation and ligand-binding affinity of the extracellular domain of integrins. This 'inside-out' signal transduction appears to be mediated through the integrin cytoplasmic domains. In addition, in some cases affinity modulation of integrins may be cell-type specific. The clarification of the mechanisms of integrin affinity modulation should help explain rapid changes in cell adhesion that occur during cell migration, aggregation and the cell cycle.     

若干种枝角类卵鞍表面亚显微结构的比较研究

以扫描电镜对发头裸腹溞、蚤状溞、隆线溞指名亚种以及隆线溞东湖一亚种的卵鞍分别进行了比较研究,发现卵鞍表面的亚显微结构有明显的差异,但亚种之间差异较小。隆线溞指名亚种与隆线溞东湖一亚种二者的卵鞍在光学显微镜下看不出有什么差异,然而亚显微结构却互不相同。这就为东湖一新亚种的确定提供了一项可靠的依据,同时也进一步证实卵鞍的超微结构确可作为枝角类分类的表征。
