Zusammenfassung Aufnahme und Speicherung des basischen Phenazinfarbstoffes Neutralrot werden in Abhängigkeit von Färbezeit, Konzentration und pH-Wert der Außenlösung quantitativ gemessen. Bei pH 6,75 stellen sich nach etwa 3000 sec außenkonzentrationsabhängige Gleichgewichtskonzentrationen in der Vacuole ein, bei pH 9,6 wird derselbe Endzustand nach bereits etwa 1000 sec erreicht. Der Speicherungsfaktor zeigt einen bereits bei hohen Außenkonzentrationen beginnenden stetigen Anstieg mit fallender Außenkonzentration. Die Beteiligung metaosmotischer und nichtosmotischer Stoffaufnahme- und Speicherungsvorgänge wird diskutiert. Leaf angle and orientation were measured for 217 leaves from two populations of Silphium terebinthinaceum Jacq., a prairie forb with large, unlobed leaves. Seventy-five percent of leaves measured had an angle of deviation from horizontal of more than 60°, and 60% were oriented within 15° of North. Incident Photon Flux Density (PFD), leaf temperature, photosynthesis, stomatal conductance to CO2, internal CO2 concentration, transpiration, and water use efficiency (WUE) were measured on 67 pairs of leaves with the axes oriented in either a North-South (N–S) or East–West (E–W) direction. Leaves with axes oriented N–S intercepted higher levels of PFD during morning and afternoon and exhibited higher diurnal rates of photosynthesis and WUE. Leaf temperature was reduced in N–S leaves during midday as compared to E–W leaves, and was lower in vertical leaves than in those in a horizontal position. Therefore, it was concluded that leaf orientation and verticality enhance carbon gain and minimize water loss—characteristics which may have adaptive significance in a hot, stressful prairie environment. 相似文献

T lymphocytes can undergo an activation/proliferation response or an apoptotic response following T cell receptor engagement. The choice between these outcomes is dictated by the activation state of the T lymphocyte, the presence of interleukin-2 and the strength of the T cell receptor stimulus. Specifically, when quiescent cells encounter effectively presented antigen they are activated and begin to proliferate. In contrast, activated cells, moving through the cell cycle under the influence of IL-2, undergo apoptosis upon reencountering antigen. Both the tumour necrosis factor receptor and CD95 (FAS) are known to participate in mediating this cell death. Genetic defects in the molecules of the lymphocyte death pathway (CD95, FAS ligand, IL-2 receptor) lead to syndromes of autoimmunity and dysregulated lymphocyte homeostasis. Summary Rudist and stromatoporid associations of the Campanian from Central Oman are nearly monospecific. They are dominated byDurania aff.nicholasi, Vaccinites vesiculosus, Torreites milanovici or phaceloid and massive stromatoporids. Several other rudist genera play a secondary role. The thickness of the associations
is rarely more than one metre. Solitary corals do not occur in the associations. Colonial corals are less common, although

Summary Versatile three-step procedures for syntheses of seven racemi-fluoro-a-amino acids are described. Alkylation oftert-butyl N-(diphenylmethylene) glycinate with 1-bromo-2-fluoroalkanes gave N-protected aminoacid esters both in anhydrous medium using lithium-diisopropylamide as base at low temperature or in a two phase system of 50% aqueous sodium hydroxide and methylene chloride with triethylbenzylammonium chloride as the phase transfer catalyst at room temperature. Summary Data are reviewed on the amino acid metabolism in patients suffering from transient acute polymorphic psychoses according to ICD-10. The psychotic episodes of many of these patients are characterized by distorted sensory perceptions and intense emotional states; plasma amino acid analysis revealed a disturbed serine-glycine metabolism.In remitted patients oral loading with serine induced the characteristic dysperceptions and psychedelic symptoms. Plasma concentrations of serine and methionine were decreased, and the concentration of taurine was increased. Fibroblast experiments suggest that the activities of the serine metabolizing enzymes serine hydroxymethyltransferase and cystathionine-synthase are increased in these patients.The determination of plasma amino acid concentrations proved to be useful in discriminating these patients. The prevalence of this transient psychosis in a psychiatric in-patient population ranged between 1.4 and 3.6%. 相似文献

A case of cutaneous zygomycosis caused byAbsidia coryabifera in a leukemic patient submitted to chemotherapy is reported. The lesion was located on the little finger of the right hand and probably resulted from a latent osteomyelitis. It progressed to form extensive necrotic area. Turkey poults were given either of two different dosages of two different gliotoxin-producing strains ofAspergillus fumigatus. Infected lung tissue was examined postmortem for the presence of gliotoxin. Gliotoxin was found in lung tissue of ten poults infected with one strain and in seven of ten poults infected with the other strain. Concentrations of gliotoxin in the tissue exceeded 6 ppm in some of the infected tissues. The concentration of gliotoxin found in infected tissue did not appear to be correlated with the dosage of organism given. Considering the pathologic changes observed in turkey poults with aspergillosis and the production of gliotoxin during the pathogenic state in turkey poults, gliotoxin is considered likely to be involved in avian aspergillosis.
