The rat medial gastrocnemius (MG) muscle is composed of the proximal and distal compartments. In this study, morphometric properties of the compartments and their muscle fibres at five levels of the muscle length and the innervation pattern of these compartments from lumbar segments were investigated. The size and number of muscle fibres in the compartments were different. The proximal compartment at the largest cross section (25% of the muscle length) had 34% smaller cross-sectional area but contained a slightly higher number of muscle fibres (max. 5521 vs. 5360) in comparison to data for the distal compartment which had the largest cross-sectional area at 40% of the muscle length. The muscle fibre diameters revealed a clear tendency within both compartments to increase along the muscle (from the knee to the Achilles tendon) up to 46.9?μm in the proximal compartment and 58.4?μm in the distal one. The maximal tetanic and single twitch force evoked by stimulation of L4, L5, and L6 ventral roots in whole muscle and compartments were measured. The MG was innervated from L4 and L5, only L5, or L5 and L6 segments. The proximal compartment was innervated by axons from L5 or L5 and L4, and the distal one from L5, L5 and L6, or L5 and L4 segments. The forces produced by the compartments summed non-linearly. The tetanic forces of the proximal and distal compartments amounted to 2.24 and 4.86?N, respectively, and their algebraic sums were 11% higher than the whole muscle force (6.37?N). 相似文献

Neotropical genera of Cephenniini characterized by an additional leg ‘segment’ (‘trochantellus’) are revised, and the following new taxa are described: Shyri gen.n. , Shyri pichincha sp.n. (type species: Cephennium spinicolle Schaufuss), Furcodes gen.n. , Furcodes apicalis sp.n. (type species of Furcodes) (Mexico), Furcodes tutule sp.n. (Honduras), Paracephennium pumilio sp.n. (Costa Rica), Pseudocephennium iwokramanum sp.n. (Guyana), Pseudocephennium trilineatum sp.n. (Guyana), Pseudocephennium araguanum sp.n. (Venezuela), Pseudocephennium maximum sp.n. Cladistic analysis of characters from adult morphology of all genera of Cephenniini and a large outgroup sample from Cyrtoscydmini, Eutheiini, Scydmaenini, Clidicini and Mastigini strongly supported the monophyly of Cephenniini. However, only the Cephennomicrus group comprising nine genera was strongly supported as a monophyletic clade, while only weak support was found for the previously suggested Cephennodes group and Cephennium group. Two alternative hypotheses concerning the phylogeny of Cephenniini are put forward and discussed: (i) the Cephennium group is sister to all remaining Cephenniini; or (ii) the Cephennomicrus group is sister to all remaining Cephenniini. Nitrite binds reversibly to the ferriheme proteins metmyoglobin and methemoglobin in aqueous buffer solution at a physiological pH of 7.4. The spectral changes recorded for the formation of metMb(NO2-) differ significantly from those observed for the nitrosylation of metMb, which can be accounted for in terms of the different reaction products. Nitric oxide binding to metMb produces a nitrosyl product with Fe(II)-NO+ character, whereas the reaction with nitrite produces an Fe(III)-NO2- complex. The kinetics of the binding and release of nitrite by metMb and metHb were investigated by stopped-flow techniques at ambient and high pressure. The kinetic traces recorded for the reaction of nitrite with metMb exhibit excellent single-exponential fits, whereas nitrite binding to metHb is characterized by double-exponential kinetics which were assigned to the reactions of the alpha- and beta-chains of metHb with NO2-. The rate constants for the binding of nitrite to metMb and metHb were found to be much smaller than those reported for the binding of NO, such that nitrite impurities will not affect the latter reaction. The activation parameters (deltaH++,deltaS(ne),deltaV++) obtained from the temperature and pressure dependence of the reactions support the operation of a dissociative mechanism for the binding and release of nitrite, similar to that found for the binding and release of NO in metMb. 相似文献

Powdery mildew (PM) is a common disease caused by Blumeria graminis, which affects cereals and has recently adapted to triticale. Adult-plant resistance (APR) genes provide durable protection of crops from the disease. Quantitative trait loci corresponding to the APR effects were mapped in an F2 population of “Lamberto” (susceptible) × “Moderto” (resistant). A genetic map of winter triticale was constructed based on the segregation of 863 DArT, 38 microsatellite and 10 resistance gene analogue markers. Composite interval mapping (CIM) was applied to identify three QTLs for maximum disease severity (MDS) and two for the area under disease progress curve (AUDPC) conferring resistance to the powdery mildew on chromosomes: 6A, 7A, 1B and 4R. The 39% variation in AUDPC was explained by the main QTL localised on chromosome 4R. Genes coding TRIUR3 proteins, serine/threonine protein kinase and cell wall associated kinases were localised in silico within the QTL and alternative DNA markers were proposed for flexible use in laboratories of diversified throughput. 相似文献
