With a view to investigate the contribution and role of environment within a wooden pyramid model on the wound healing suppressant effect of dexamethasone in rats, wound breaking strength, dry weight, hydroxyproline content and histology of granulation tissue of the dead space wound were studied in rats. The results indicate that the environment within the wooden pyramid not only promotes significant wound healing but also reduces the wound healing suppressant effect of dexamethasone. Histological studies also confirmed the results.  相似文献

Dietary supplementation with the peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor alpha (PPAR alpha) ligand WY 14,643 gave rise to a 4- to 5-fold increase in the expression of mRNA for the ATP binding cassette transporter A1 (ABCA1) in the intestine of normal mice. There was no effect in the intestine of PPAR alpha-null mice. Consumption of a high-cholesterol diet also increased intestinal ABCA1 expression. The effects of WY 14,643 and the high-cholesterol diet were not additive. WY 14,643 feeding reduced intestinal absorption of cholesterol in the normal mice, irrespective of the dietary cholesterol concentration, and this resulted in lower diet-derived cholesterol and cholesteryl ester concentrations in plasma and liver. At each concentration of dietary cholesterol, there was a similar significant inverse correlation between intestinal ABCA1 mRNA content and the amount of cholesterol absorbed. The fibrate-induced changes in the intestines of the normal mice were accompanied by an increased concentration of the mRNA encoding the sterol-regulatory element binding protein-1c gene (SREBP-1c), a known target gene for the oxysterol receptor liver X receptor alpha (LXR alpha). There was a correlation between intestinal ABCA1 mRNA and SREBP-1c mRNA contents, but not between SREBP-1c mRNA content and cholesterol absorption. These results suggest that PPAR alpha influences cholesterol absorption through modulating ABCA1 activity in the intestine by a mechanism involving LXR alpha.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: Fine needle aspiration (FNA) cytologic diagnosis of toxoplasmic lymphadenitis with demonstration of a tissue cyst containing bradyzoites has been very rarely reported. CASE: A 17-year-old female presented with a mobile, painless, 2-cm-diameter swelling over the right suprascapular area. Clinical diagnosis was lipoma. FNA smears showed features of reactive lymphoid hyperplasia, including tingible body macrophages and groups of epithelioid histiocytes. A Toxoplasma cyst with bradyzoites was also demonstrated in a Papanicolaou-stained smear. Following FNA cytodiagnosis, serologic tests revealed a high titer of IgG and the presence of IgM-specific antibodies to Toxoplasma gondii, indicating active/recent disease. CONCLUSION: FNA cytology is a valuable tool for the diagnosis of toxoplasmic lymphadenitis. Papanicolaou stain is appropriate for demonstration of the parasite. Serology is an excellent adjunct in clinching the diagnosis.  相似文献

Myelosuppressive cytokines, in particular IFN-gamma and TNF-alpha, play an important role in the pathogenesis of idiopathic aplastic anemia in humans. It is unknown whether these negative regulators of hemopoiesis suppress stem cells by activating a common signaling cascade or via distinct nonoverlapping pathways. In this study, we provide evidence that a common element in signaling for IFN-gamma and TNF-alpha in human hemopoietic progenitors is the p38/MapKapK-2 signaling cascade. Our studies indicate that pharmacological inhibition of p38 reverses the suppressive effects of IFN-gamma and TNF-alpha on normal human bone marrow-derived erythroid and myeloid progenitors. Most importantly, inhibition of p38 strongly enhances hemopoietic progenitor colony formation from aplastic anemia bone marrows in vitro. Thus, p38 appears to play a critical role in the pathogenesis of aplastic anemia, suggesting that selective pharmacological inhibitors of this kinase may prove useful in the treatment of aplastic anemia and other cytokine-mediated bone marrow failure syndromes.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To investigate whether fine needle capillary (FNC) sampling gives quantitatively and qualitatively superior cytologic material as compared to the conventional technique of fine needle aspiration (FNA) when performed by a single aspirator. STUDY DESIGN: Cross-sectional diagnostic test evaluation study. FNA and FNC were performed by a single operator on 200 diffuse and nodular thyroid lesions. RESULTS: A statistically significant difference in favor of FNC was observed for the parameter amount of cellular material. For the rest of the parameters--background blood or clot, degree of cellular degeneration, degree of cellular trauma and retention of architecture--the average score favored FNC but was not statistically significant--i.e., smears prepared from FNC displayed cellular material that was more concentrated, less damaged and less likely to be obscured by blood. CONCLUSION: Although FNC sampling was diagnostic in a greater number of cases than FNA sampling, this study did not prove a clear superiority of FNC over FNA. Until greater experience shows clear sampling superiority of FNC alone, rather than performing only FNA in diffuse or nodular thyroid lesions, incorporating FNC into the second puncture will definitely improve the quality and quantity of material at the patient's first visit.  相似文献
