We designed a randomized, rater blind study to assess the efficacy of EEG Biofeedback (Neurofeedback-NFB) in patients with
fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS). Eighteen patients received twenty sessions of NFB-sensory motor rhythm (SMR) treatment (NFB group)
during 4 weeks, and eighteen patients were given 10 mg per day escitalopram treatment (control group) for 8 weeks. Visual
Analog Scales for pain and fatigue, Hamilton and Beck Depression and Anxiety Inventory Scales, Fibromyalgia Impact Questionnaire
and Short Form 36 were used as outcome measures which were applied at baseline and 2nd, 4th, 8th, 16th, 24th weeks. Mean amplitudes
of EEG rhythms (delta, theta, alpha, SMR, beta1 and beta2) and theta/SMR ratio were also measured in NFB group. All post-treatment
measurements showed significant improvements in both of the groups (for all parameters p < 0.05). NFB group displayed greater
benefits than controls (for all parameters p < 0.05). Therapeutic efficacy of NFB was found to begin at 2nd week and reached
to a maximum effect at 4th week. On the other hand, the improvements in SSRI treatment were also detected to begin at 2nd
week but reached to a maximum effect at 8th week. No statistically significant changes were noted regarding mean amplitudes
of EEG rhythms (p > 0.05 for all). However, theta/SMR ratio showed a significant decrease at 4th week compared to baseline
in the NFB group (p < 0.05). These data support the efficacy of NFB as a treatment for pain, psychological symptoms and impaired

The paper deals with the links between physiological measurements and cognitive and emotional functioning. As long as the
operator is a key agent in charge of complex systems, the definition of metrics able to predict his performance is a great
challenge. The measurement of the physiological state is a very promising way but a very acute comprehension is required;
in particular few studies compare autonomous nervous system reactivity according to specific cognitive processes during task
performance and task related psychological stress is often ignored. We compared physiological parameters recorded on 24 healthy
subjects facing two neuropsychological tasks: a dynamic task that require problem solving in a world that continually evolves
over time and a logical task representative of cognitive processes performed by operators facing everyday problem solving.
Results showed that the mean pupil diameter change was higher during the dynamic task; conversely, the heart rate was more
elevated during the logical task. Finally, the systolic blood pressure seemed to be strongly sensitive to psychological stress.
A better taking into account of the precise influence of a given cognitive activity and both workload and related task-induced
psychological stress during task performance is a promising way to better monitor operators in complex working situations
to detect mental overload or pejorative stress factor of error. 相似文献

Vibrio (V.) parahaemolyticus is an aquatic halophilic bacteria which produces gastroenteritis and in rare cases septicaemia after the consumption of raw or under-cooked contaminated seafood.The severity of diarrheal illness caused by this bacterium is closely related to the presence of two types of hemolysins (the thermostable direct hemolysin-TDH and TDH related hemolysin-TRH) and also of type III secretion system (TTSS) proteins. The TTSS type 1 induces a wide array of effects on infected HeLa cells such as autophagy, oncosis, cell rounding and lysis. Previous studies have shown that heat shock proteins have the ability to stimulate the production of interleukins in different cellular cultures. In our studies we have stimulated two cellular lines (HeLa and human diploid cells) with different V. parahaemolyticus culture fractions in order to observe the effect on cytokines production. Thus, the purpose of this study was to analyze the expression of IL-1, IL-2, IL-4, IL-6, IL-10 and TNF-alpha induced by the cell treatment with total cellular lysate, periplasmic fractions and culture supernatants extracted from V. parahaemolyticus exposed to normal and also to stress conditions. The ELISA assay of the cytokine profile of the HeLa and HDC cell lines stimulated with different bacterial fractions revealed that in the V. parahemolyticus cultures submitted to osmotic and heat shock stress are accumulating factors (probably heat shock proteins) which are exhibiting immunomodulatory activity, responsible for the induction of a pro-inflammatory response associated with increased levels of IL-6 and TNF-alpha expression, however balanced by the stimulation of the anti-inflammatory cytokine IL-4 synthesis. 相似文献

In light of the high incidence of mammary cancer in dogs and completion of the canine genome sequencing, the new possibilities
of gene profiling by using DNA microarrays give hope to veterinary oncology. The cell lines isolated from mammary tumors are
a valuable tool in developing and testing new pathway-specific cancer therapeutics. Differential cytometric analysis of 6
canine mammary cancer cell lines was performed. We divided cell lines into 3 groups based on their phenotype: 2 lines with
high proliferative potential, 2 lines with high antiapoptotic potential, and 2 lines with high metastatic potential. DNA microarray
analysis revealed common genes for cell lines of each group. We found that genes encoding the receptors for growth hormone
and ghrelin are related to high proliferation rate, whileABR (active BCR-related) andTMD1 (TM2 domain containing 1) genes are related to a high antiapoptotic potential of the cancer cells. Metastatic properties

Inselbergs are isolated granitic rock outcrops that provide distinctive ecological conditions. In northern South America they rise above the surrounding rainforest. Among inselberg specialists, Pitcairnia geyskesii (Bromeliaceae) is restricted to these habitats in French Guiana. We studied populations from 12 inselbergs using 7 microsatellite loci to give a "reverse image" of the reduction-expansion of the rainforest in the context of the refuge hypothesis. Our analyses showed that populations are fragmented with dispersal occurring only over very short distances. Genetic diversity was higher in northern French Guiana, whereas specific alleles were observed in the south. The results point to the occurrence of a dry corridor in the north, as hypothesized by Tardy (1998) based on charcoal analyses, whereas de Granville's (1982) hypothesis of a unique past refuge is not confirmed. Moreover, our data suggests the importance of Oyapock River as a pathway for range expansion, arguing against the potential role of the Inini-Camopi Mountains as a physical barrier. Finally, in spite of a strongly argued scenario in favour of a north-to-south migration history, a clear genetic isolation of P. geyskesii populations living on inselbergs of the Mitaraka archipelago suggests a distinct ancestry of the most southern populations. 相似文献

Estrogens have antioxidant properties which are due to their ability to bind to estrogen receptors and to up-regulate the expression of antioxidant enzymes via intracellular signalling pathways. Mitochondria are key organelles in the development of age-associated cellular damage. Recently, estrogen receptors were identified in mitochondria. The aim of this paper was to test whether estradiol directly affects mitochondria by preventing oxidative stress and protecting frail mitochondria. Incubation with estradiol at normal intracellular concentrations prevents the formation of reactive oxygen species by mitochondria in a saturable manner. Moreover, estradiol protects mitochondrial integrity as indicated by an increase in mitochondrial membrane potential. It also prevents the apoptogenic leakage of cytochrome c from mitochondria and as a result the mitochondrial content of this cytochrome c is maintained high. Thus, estradiol prevents the onset of the mitochondrial pathway of apoptosis by a direct effect on the organelle. Genistein, a phytoestrogen present at high concentration in soy, mimics the protective effect of estradiol by both decreasing the rate of formation of reactive oxygen species and preventing the release of cytochrome c from mitochondria. 相似文献

Importance of iodine and selenium in thyroid metabolism is well known, but the roles of other essential trace elements including copper, zinc, manganese and iron on thyroid hormone homeostasis remain unclear. The aim of this study was to investigate the status of those trace elements in benign thyroid diseases and evaluate possible links between trace element concentrations and thyroid hormones.The study group was composed of 25 patients with multinodular goiter. Concentrations of thyroid hormones (plasma-free thyroxine, FT4; free triiodothyronine, FT3; and thyrotropin, TSH), selenium, copper, zinc, manganese and iron in plasma, and urinary iodine were determined. The results were compared with those of a healthy control group (n=20) with no thyroid disorder.A mild iodine deficiency was observed in the patients with multinodular goiter whereas urinary iodine levels were in the range of “normal” values in healthy controls. All patients were euthyroid, and their thyroid hormone concentrations were not significantly different from the control group. Plasma selenium, zinc and iron concentrations did not differ from controls, while copper and manganese levels were found to be significantly higher in the patients with multinodular goiter indicating links between these trace elements and thyroid function and possibly in development of goiter. Besides iodine, there was a significant correlation between plasma copper concentration and FT3/FT4 ratio. 相似文献

Noël Evaluation of accuracy of fine needle aspiration cytology in BI‐RADS3 category breast lesions: cytohistological correlation in 337 cases Objective: To evaluate the accuracy of fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) in BI‐RADS3 breast lesions. Methods: Between January 2004 and December 2007, 337 cases from BI‐RADS3 lesions underwent FNAC. Three to six needle passes were made on each patient. In 67 cases (20%) a histological biopsy was performed. Cytological and histological interpretations were performed by the same pathologist. Results: The histological diagnosis showed that 88% (59/67) of BI‐RADS3 breast lesions were benign. Only 6% (4/67) were malignant, consisting of ductal carcinoma in situ and infiltrating ductal carcinoma. Conclusion: BI‐RADS3 lesions remain disruptive in their management. However, the correlation between cytology and histology showed that most of these lesions were benign and that finally FNAC remains a useful and accurate test in the management of these lesions. 相似文献
