Summary A female Pied Flycatcher (Ficedula hypoleuca) built over a Coal Tits' (Parus ater) nest containing five chicks. Nevertheless, the nestlings survived on account of their parents' feedings, and because they were probably lifted up in the nest-box sitting on top of the material brought into the box by the flycatcher-. After nest-completion the Pied Flycatcher- layed four eggs, but refused breeding. Instead, and probably due to the intense begging of the five Coal Tit chicks, the Flycatcher-pair immediatly started to rear its young. Based on the good care the chicks were given by their parents and foster-parents they came along nicely and fledged some days later.  相似文献

Genetic and molecular characterization of the Pseudomonas plasmid pVS1   总被引:23,自引:0,他引:23  
A restriction map of the 30-kb nonconjugative Pseudomonas plasmid pVS1 was constructed. Derivatives of pVS1 obtained in vitro by successive deletions were used to localize on the physical map the determinant for resistance to mercuric ions (carried by transposon Tn501), the gene(s) encoding sulfonamide resistance, a 1.6-kb region affecting plasmid stability and establishment in P. fluorescens ATCC 13525, and a segment required for mobilization of pVS1 by plasmid RP1. The sulfonamide resistance determinant of pVS1 appeared to be closely related to that of transposon Tn21. A mini-pVS1 replicon, pME259, consisting of an essential 1.55-kb segment (designated rep and thought to carry the origin of replication) and a mercury resistance determinant was able to replicate P. aeruginosa PAO but selective pressure was needed for plasmid maintenance. The copy number of pVS1 derivatives was estimated to be 6-8 per chromosome equivalent. Plasmids possessing the essential rep segment plus the adjacent stability region could be established in strains of P. aeruginosa, P. putida, P. fluorescens, P. acidovorans, P. cepacia, P. mendocina, P. stutzeri, P. syringae, Agrobacterium tumefaciens, and Rhizobium leguminosarum.  相似文献

Oligomers of 5-amino-8-vinyl-phthalazine-1,4(2H,3H)-dione exhibit about 0.05% of the chemiluminescence quantum yield of the corresponding ‘monomer unit’, i.e. 5-amino-8-ethyl-phthalazine-1,4(2H,3H)-dione which has a similar quantum yield to luminol. The quantum yields of copolymers of 5-amino-8-vinyl-phthalazine-1,4(2H,3H)-dione (1a) with methyl methacrylate or with styrene increase up to 1000-fold, relative to the quantum yield of oligomers of (1a). Thus the monomer units of methyl methacrylate or styrene appear to act as ‘spacers’ between the lumigenic groups. α,ω-Bis[(5-amino-phthalazine-1,4(2H,3H)-dion-)8-yl] alkanes show an analogue ‘distance’ effect: the chemiluminescence quantum yield increases with increasing alkane chain length. As the fluorescence of the corresponding amino phthalates (which are intermediates in the synthesis of the phthalazine diones) is only slightly influenced by the distance between the lumigenic groups it is suggested that a mainly chemical ‘distance effect’ is working here: the smaller the intramolecular distance between the hydrazide groups the more inhibition exists in respect of the oxidative reaction producing the luminol-type chemiluminescence.  相似文献

Accelerations of vertebrae during whole-body vibration (WBV) are used in occupational biomechanics for the prediction of internal stress. To avoid invasive techniques, a method for the calculation of bone accelerations was developed using measurements on the skin. The soft tissue between spinous processes L3 and T5 and miniature accelerometers stuck to the skin over them was modelled by a simple Kelvin element, whose parameters i.e. angular natural frequency omega n and critical damping zeta, describe an approximate transfer function between the bone (input) and the skin surface (output). The parameters were determined from free damped oscillations of the accelerometer-skin complex in the Z-axis, and depended significantly on the factors "subject" and "point of measurement". In one subject, the time courses of bone accelerations during sinusoidal WBV (4.5 and 8 Hz; 1.5 m.s-2 RMS) were calculated using separate transfer functions for each of 11 different spinal levels. Since the output signals on the skin were non-sinusoidal, the skin accelerations had to be treated with an inverse transfer function in the frequency domain. A comparison of accelerations measured on the skin and predicted for the bone mainly indicates that absolute peak values of bone accelerations are smaller and occur earlier. Both kinds of acceleration hint at differences in WBV-induced internal stress within the spine.  相似文献

Summary We report magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) findings in two obligate and four facultative carriers for the classical X-linked from of Pelizaeus-Merzbacher disease (PMD). In T2-weigthed images MR revealed bilateral multiple areas with signal hyperintensity in the periventricular and subcortical white matter in five women. A mass spectrometric 16O2/18O2-isotope technique was used to analyse the rates of gross O2 evolution, net O2 evolution and gross O2 uptake in relation to photon fluence rate by Dunaliella tertiolecta adapted to 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, 2.0 and 2.5 M NaCl at 25°C and pH 7.0.At concentrations of dissolved inorganic carbon saturating for photosynthesis (200 M) gross O2 evolution and net O2 evolution increased with increasing salinity as well as with photon fluence rate. Light compensation was also enhanced with increased salinities. Light saturation of net O2 evolution was reached at about 1000 mol m-2s-1 for all salt concentrations tested. Gross O2 uptake in the light was increased in relation to the NaCl concentration but it was decreased with increasing photon fluence rate for almost all salinities, although an enhanced flow of light generated electrons was simultaneously observed. In addition, a comparison between gross O2 uptake at 1000 mol photons m-2s-1, dark respiration before illumination and immediately after darkening of each experiment showed that gross O2 uptake in the light paralleled but was lower than mitochondrial O2 consumption in the dark.From these results it is suggested that O2 uptake by Dunaliella tertiolecta in the light is mainly influenced by mitochondrial O2 uptake. Photosynthetic production of organic matter, and its exoenzymaticdecomposition were studied in the euphotic zone of a naturallyeutrophic lake during early spring phytoplankton bloom, andafter its breakdown. Phytoplankton were the major biomass producerswhen algae were actively growing, and the algal fraction (>3.0µm) contributed on average 75–80% to the total biomassof microplankton. When the phytoplankton bloom began to declinebacterial biomass increased rapidly and, at the end of the bloom,bacteria contributed 48.7–69.98% to the total biomassof microplankton. The high bacterial abundance during phytoplanktonbloom breakdown followed the highest rates of glucose uptake,and the highest rates of alkaline phosphatase, leucine-amino-peptidase,ß-galactosidase and ß-glucosidase activities.The majority of enzyme activity was associated with the bacterialsize fraction of seston. The activities of free (dissolved inwater) exoenzymes were negligible. The synthesis of bacterialexoenzymes was under control of an induction/derepression mechanism,and depended on the amount of easily assimilable substrates,and/or the presence of polymeric organic compounds in the water,which served as substrates for exoenzymatic hydrolysis. Thetight metabolic coupling between bacterial exoenzymatic hydrolysisand uptake of low molecular weight substrates, and its ecologicalsignificance is discussed.  相似文献

4-Bromophenacyl bromide at a concentration of 50 microM does not inhibit phospholipase A2 activity in liver macrophages. Rather, this compound increases the amount of radioactivity released from [3H]arachidonate-prelabeled Kupffer cells and leads to the formation of small amounts of thromboxane, prostaglandin D2 and prostaglandin E2. Also the zymosan-induced formation of thromboxane and prostaglandin E2 from endogenous sources which is thought to involve phospholipase A2 remains unaffected in the presence of this compound. The generation of superoxide and the formation of prostaglandin D2 from arachidonate and after stimulation of the cells with zymosan, however, are blocked by 4-bromophenacyl bromide. Furthermore, this compound suppresses the incorporation of externally added arachidonate into membrane lipids of the cells. 4-Bromophenacyl bromide seems, therefore, not to be a useful tool to demonstrate the involvement of phospholipase A2 in complex biological systems.  相似文献

Summary Bovine serum albumin (BSA) was recovered from aqueous solutions by foam flotation. The protein concentrations in foam liquid C S, in feed C Pand in residue C Rwere determined. The protein enrichment C S/CPand the separation C S/CRas well as the protein fraction in the foam liquid % BSA and foam liquid volume flow were determined as functions of the medium properties, operational conditions, and equipment parameters as well as concentrations of solid particles. At low protein concentrations in feed (e.g., C P=40 mg · l-1), and at 40° C, high performance was attained (C X=2,000 mg · l-1, C R=4.4 mg · l-1, C S/CP=50, C S/CR=450, 90% BSA.
