The intestinal phase of Trichinella spiralis and of Trichinella sp. isolated in the Arctic were compared in experimental animals. Reproductive capacity, pathogenicity, distribution, and persistence of adults in the small intestine, morphological measurements, and release of newborn larvae in vitro were examined. Numerous passages of 40 days each for T. spiralis and the Trichinella sp. isolate in mice did not affect reproductive capacity, distribution of adults in the small intestine, and size of worms. Reproductive capacity index for T. spiralis, I = 151.27 ± 27.30 was significantly higher compared to the Trichinella sp. isolate index, I = 63.46 ± 19.34. The Trichinella sp. isolate was more pathogenic to mice and wild rodents compared to T. spiralis during the intestinal phase. Both parasites were located in the anterior part of the small intestine but the position of T. spiralis adults (P = 17.08) differed from position of the Trichinella sp. isolate adults (P = 23.46) in the small intestine. Intestinal phase of T. spiralis was longer (20 days) compared to the Trichinella sp. isolate (15 days) but sex ratios (:♂) were similar for both parasites. T. spiralis females released significantly higher numbers of larvae in vitro/24 hr compared to the Trichinella sp. isolate. Release of larvae was continuous during the intestinal phase and the average fecundity for T. spiralis was 335 larvae/female and for the Trichinella sp. isolate 114 larvae/female. Adults of T. spiralis and the Trichinella sp. isolate were morphologically indistinguishable and did not differ in size. A comparative index for the intestinal phase is proposed for comparison of any Trichinella spp. isolates and standard T. spiralis.  相似文献

The recessive gene, mound (mnd), allows the appearance of globose masses of compacted hyphae. Dikaryons of Schizophyllum commune that are heteroallelic for mnd [(mosaic dikaryons: (mnd + mnd(+))] have been successfully dedikaryotized in cholate-containing medium in order to recover the component nuclear types directly. The relative proportion of the two recovered monokaryotic types shows in all cases a marked deviation from 1:1. Hyphae from nonmound mycelial regions yield monokaryotic types identical to those originally used to form the dikaryons. In hyphae from mound-forming regions, however, homoallelism of the mnd allele has been demonstrated; the nuclear type that formerly contained the mnd(+) allele acquired a mnd allele.-The process of internuclear transfer or recombination is unaccompanied by the simultaneous alteration of any additional genetic markers carried by the recipient nucleus. The newly acquired mnd allele segregates in Mendelian fashion in subsequent outcrosses and appears to be chromosomally located. A novel process of somatic recombination, with several features distinct from classical parasexual mitotic recombination, appears to be in operation.  相似文献

A complex containing lipopolysaccharides, phospholipids and proteins is released into the culture medium by Escherichia coli during normal growth. It can be separated from the medium by gelfiltration on Sephadex G-200 or by centrifugation. Electron microscopy revealed that this material is released as vesicles and membrane fragments. To determine the origin of these fragments, they were compared to outer and cytoplasmic membranes with respect to keto-deoxyoctulosonic acid, phospholipid, and protein content, phospholipid composition, fatty acid composition, protein distribution on sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gels, buoyant density, and content of several membrane marker enzymes. The results of this comparison indicate that the membrane fragments found in the culture supernatant of normally growing Escherichia coli consist of practically unmodified outer membrane. Possible mechanisms as to the cause of the release of outer membrane fragments, and its relationship to cell-division, are discussed.  相似文献

Background Gallbladder pathology (GBP) is a relatively uncommon, naturally occurring morbidity in both baboons and humans. Methods A retrospective analysis was performed on 7776 necropsy reports over a 20 year period to determine the prevalence of baboon GBP. Results Ninety‐seven cases of GBP were identified, yielding a 20 year population prevalence of 1.25%. GBP is more common in adult female baboons, occurring with a female to male ratio of nearly 2:1. Among gallbladder pathologies, cholecystitis (35.1%) and cholelithiasis (29.9%) were the most prevalent abnormalities, followed by hyperplasia (16.5%), edema (15.5%), amyloidosis (5.2%), fibrosis (4.1%), necrosis (4.1%), and hemorrhage (1.0%). Conclusion Many epidemiologic similarities exist between GBP in baboons and humans suggesting that the baboon may serve as a reliable animal model system for investigating GBP in humans.  相似文献
