Raccourci Pour la Synthese de la S-(Amino-3-propyll-5′-thio-5′-aoenosine

Abstract

Dans le but d'étudier le cornporternent biochirnique d'analogues de structure de la 5-Adénosyl Mgthionine [SAM), nous avons été arnenks à synthgtisér la S-[Amino-3-propyl)-5′-thio-5′-adiénosine. Après avoir mis enoeuvre les synthèses proposées dans la littérature (voie A) et avoir constaté qu'elles étaient longues (5 étapes minimum) et de faible rendernent en produit final désiré (23%), nous avons recherchié une approche plus rapide. C'est ainsi qu' partir de l'adénosine cornrnerciale, nous obtenons en deux étapes et avec un rendernent de 73%, la S-(Arnino-3-propyl)5′-thio-5′-adénosine (voie B).     

Improving biocontrol of black vine weevil (<Emphasis Type="Italic">Otiorhynchus sulcatus</Emphasis>) with entomopathogenic fungi in growing media by incorporating spent mushroom compost

Amending a peat-based growing medium with 10% v/v spent mushroom compost, a source of fungal chitin and other nutrients, prolonged the persistence of entomopathogenic fungi (Metarhizium brunneum Petsch and Beauveria bassiana (Balsamo) Vuillemin; Hypocreales: Clavicipitaceae). This resulted in improved efficacy of M. brunneum against black vine weevil, Otiorhynchus sulcatus F. (Coleoptera: Curculionidae) larvae compared with using inoculum without spent mushroom compost. B. bassiana only controlled larvae when used in combination with spent mushroom compost (75?±?7% reduction in live larvae). Mixing entomopathogenic fungal inoculum with spent mushroom compost and growing medium was as effective in controlling black vine weevil larvae as using spent mushroom compost colonised with M. brunneum or B. bassiana in the growing medium (80?±?12% reduction in live larvae). The former method is preferable since it does not require production and storage of colonised spent mushroom compost, or registration of new substrate formulations of M. brunneum or B. bassiana.     

Study of Dyspepsia in a General Practice as Assessed by Endoscopy and Radiology

Fifty consecutive patients presenting in a general practice with dyspepsia were studied. Each patient was referred for a combined barium-meal examination and cholecystogram, followed by fibreoptic endoscopy of the oesophagus, stomach, and duodenum. Thirty patients had a specific lesion of the upper digestive tract and a further four had gall-bladder disease; of these, 16 required surgical treatment. Endoscopy in the remaining 16 patients showed nine with mucosal abnormalities, leaving only seven patients to be classified as normal.The advantage of having an endoscopy service to supplement radiological investigation of dyspepsia is shown.
