Ethnogenetics of Yakuts from Three Regions of Republic' of Sakha (Yakutia) Inferred from the Frequencies of Biochemical Gene Markers

Comparative data on the distribution of immunological markers (AB0 and RH), serum proteins (HP, TF, GC, PI, and C3), and red cell enzymes (PGM1, ACP1, ESD, and GLO1) polymorphisms in Yakut populations from three regions of the Republic are presented. Close genetic affinities of Yakuts to Altaians, Mongols, and Buryats along with their notable difference from Evenks, Evens, and Chukchi were demonstrated.     

Rapid effects of progesterone on ciliary beat frequency in the mouse fallopian tube

Background  

The physiological regulation of ciliary beat frequency (CBF) within the fallopian tube is important for controlling the transport of gametes and the fertilized ovum. Progesterone influences gamete transport in the fallopian tube of several mammalian species. In fallopian tubes isolated from cows, treatment with 20 micromolar progesterone caused a rapid reduction of the tubal CBF. The aims of this study were to establish methodology for studying fallopian tube CBF in the mouse, as it is an important model species, and to investigate if progesterone rapidly affects the CBF of mice at nM concentrations.     

Age-related changes in human body proportions studied by the method of principal components

The method for analysis of the ontogenetic changes of size and shape based on the decomposition of Kullback divergence into parts corresponding to the principal components, found for intragroup variability of signs is suggested. The application of this method is illustrated by the analysis of age changes of body proportions for boys 3-17 years old. Before the pubertal period the stable tendency to a relative lengthening of extremities which changes to a contrast one at age of 12-14 has been pointed out. The definitive differences of proportions to a considerable extent is determined by variability of biological age at the group of children.     

Effect of a bone marrow stimulator of antibody producers on virus-specific antibody formation in animals infected with flaviviruses

The injection of the marrow stimulator of antibody-producing cells (SAPC) into animals infected with Japanese encephalitis and tick-borne encephalitis viruses stimulated the formation of virus-specific antibodies in the infected animals, increasing antibody production 8- to 16-fold. Such SAPC-induced stimulation of the formation of virus-specific antibodies is observed in cases of both acute and chronic virus infection. The prospects of using the preparation of SAPC are discussed.     

Construction of a typology for distribution of body mass by body segments in men using the main component method

The method of morphotype construction based on the principle components is described. The morphotype system has been constructed for the main circumferences of a man's body including the size index of diametrical dimensions and the character of trunk-limbs distribution of the body mass. According to the second index it is possible to determine the following variants: the centripetal one with the trunk circumferences predominance over the limbs circumferences and the inverted combination-centrifugal type. The geographical regularity values of the morphological indexes for some ethnoterritorial groups of the USSR has been shown.
