A series of 35 patients have been submitted to microsurgical callosotomy since February 1978, their age ranging from 6 to 42 years. The surgical procedure consisted either of a frontal parasagittal trephination or a larger frontoparietal rectangular craniotomy to allow the investigation of the surgical areas of the hemispheres with electrocorticography under local anesthesia. This allowed us to better follow the electrographic abnormalities and plan the extent of the callosal section suited to each case, in particular rostral and genual section, section of the trunk only or subtotal section sparing the splenium. In 2 cases, cortical resection was associated with the split. The callosal fibers which were divided by careful section under the resected portion provided a critical postoperative control of the extent of the lesion. Results and selection criteria will also be analyzed.  相似文献

Genetic variation is described at 15 loci in 2 neotenic and 12 nonneotenic populations of red-spotted newts. Though high levels of genetic similarity (I=0.990) were found among all populations, allele frequencies at six of the eight most polymorphic loci show significant heterogeneity across populations. Change in allele frequencies at two of these loci (Pep-2 and Ldh-1) is significantly correlated with latitude. Interspecific homologies are established for newt peptidases based on substrate specificities and lactate dehydrogenases based on tissue distribution, thermal stability, and kinetic properties. Nonneotenic populations are highly variable (H=0.157) and neotenic populations are only slightly, but significantly, less variable (H=0.120). The high levels of heterozygosity detected in nonneotenic populations may result from large effective population size and/or environmental heterogeneity. The unexpectedly high heterozygosity values obtained for the neotenic populations may indicate adult dispersal or the presence of some previously undetected red efts at these localities. In any case, a major change in life history has apparently had little effect on the genetic structure of these populations.This research was supported by grants from the Blakeslee Fund of Smith College.  相似文献

Live and dead cell counts of epipelic diatoms were analysed at 16 sites along a transect crossing a saltmarsh, sandflat, and mudflat at Berrow Flats, Somerset, U.K. Replicate monthly samples were taken from January 1982 to June 1984. The ratio of dead to live cells varied according to position along the transect. Temporal changes of the ratios did not display a cyclic seasonal pattern. The clustered mosaic of live cells and empty frustules on surface sediments was quantitatively assessed. Graphing variance against seasonal mean cell counts showed that the variance was proportional to the square of the mean. The Neyman Type A equation is suggested as a possible model to explain this relationship.  相似文献

Production of bulblets of Muscari armeniacum through tissue culture is enhanced when 1 g/l activated charcoal is added to a modified Murashige and Skoog (MS) medium. Bulblet regeneration is direct from bulb scale explants with no intermediate callus growth. Bulblets can be transferred successfully to a greenhouse environment directly from aseptic culture.  相似文献

Molybdenum is required for both dinitrogen fixation and nitrate assimilation. In oxic waters the primary form of molybdenum is the molybdate anion. Using radioactive [99Mol Na2MoO4, we have shown that the transport of molybdate by a natural assemblage of freshwater phytoplankton is light-dependent and follows typical saturation kinetics. The molybdate anion is strikingly similar to sulfate and we present data to show that sulfate is a competitive inhibitor of molybdate assimilation by planktonic algae and bacteria. The ability of freshwater phytoplankton to transport molybdate is inhibited at sulfate concentrations as low as 5% of those in seawater and at sulfate: molybdate ratios as low as 50 to 100 times lower than those found in seawater, Similarly, the growth of both a freshwater bacterium and a saltwater diatom was inhibited at sulfate: molybdate ratios lower than those in seawater.The ratio of sulfate to molybdate is 10 to 100 times greater in seawater than in fresh water. This unfavorable sulfate: molybdate ratio may make molybdate less biologically available in the sea. The sulfate: molybdate ratio may explain, in part, the low rates of nitrogen fixation in N-limited salt waters.  相似文献

In situ hybridization of radiolabeled fibrinogen cDNAs to human and rat metaphase chromosomes has shown that the genes encoding the A alpha, B beta, and gamma fibrinogen subunits are syntenic in both species. Our data localize the human fibrinogen gene cluster to band q31 on chromosome 4, thereby confirming and extending previous map assignments of these genes in man. We have also assigned these genes to the q31----q34 region of rat chromosome 2. This is the first map assignment of these genes in the rat and also the first report to clearly establish linkage of the B beta subunit gene to the A alpha and gamma genes in this species.  相似文献

The ammonium uptake system of Rhodobacter capsulatus B100 was examined using the ammonium analog methylammonium. This analog was not transported when cells were grown aerobically on ammonium. When cultured on glutamate as a nitrogen source, or when nitrogen-starved, cells would take up methylammonium. Therefore, in cells grown under nitrogen-limiting conditions, a second system of ammonium uptake (or a modified form of the first) is present which is distinguished by its capacity for transporting the analog in addition to ammonium. The methylammonium uptake system exhibited saturation kinetics with a K m of 22 M and a V max of about 3 nmol per min · mg protein. Ammonium completely inhibited analog transport with a K i in the range of 1 M. Once inside the cell methylammonium was rapidly converted to -N-methylglutamine; however, a small concentration gradient of methylammonium could still be observed. Kinetic parameters reflect the effects of assimilation.The methylammonium uptake system was temperature and pH dependent, and inhibition studies indicated that energy was required for the system to be operative. A glutamine auxotroph (G29) lacking the structural gene for glutanime synthetase did not accumulate the analog, even when nitrogen starved. The Nif- mutant J61, which is unable to express nitrogenase structural genes, also did not transport methylammonium, regardless of the nitrogen source for growth. However, the mutant exhibited wild-type ammonium uptake and glutamine synthetase activity. The synthesis of phosphatidylcholine from phosphatidylethanolamine is carried out by chick liver microsomes (Gallus domesticus). Different concentrations of PE, NPE and NNPE were used as exogenous substrates. Saturation of the S-adenosylmethionine has been found for the three different reactions with or without exogenous substrate. Kinetic parameters have been determined for this enzyme system in chick liver microsomes. The three methyl reactions had a similar pH profile with an optimum at pH = 8. Divalent ions such as Ca2+ or Mg2+ did not stimulate the enzyme activity. The results suggest that the synthesis of phosphatidylcholine from phosphatidylethanolamine by chick liver microsomes exhibits a kinetic pattern with different aspects than that described for other animal or human preparations.  相似文献
