Noise is a world-wide problem that causes nervous, endocrine and cardiovascular disorders, and eventually health hazards in humans and animals. Objective of the current work is to investigate endocrine interaction in noise stress, which subsequently affects other endocrine functions including gonads in a poultry bird like chicks. Gravimetric, ultrastructural and hormonal status of the endocrine organs were examined to ascertain the effects of noise stress. Acute noise at 60 dB had no effect, but at 80 and 100 dB each for 3 h, increased pineal and serum serotonin, and adrenal and serum corticosterone, epinephrine and norepinephrine concentrations, without any change in thyroid or gonadal hormones. Chronic noise exposure at 60, 80 and 100 dB each for 6 h, daily for 7 days, drastically disturbed normal behavior, and quantum of food consumption and water intake. Chronic exposure also significantly decreased body weight including thyroid, ovary and testis weight, and increased adrenal weight. Noise stress caused ultrastructural changes leading to stimulations of pinealocytes (with abundance of rough endoplasmic reticulum and mitochondria), adrenocortical cells (enlarged nuclei and abundance of smooth endoplasmic reticulum) and adrenomedullary cells (enlarged nuclei with presence of chromaffin granules) were observed in noise stress. Additionally, pineal and serum serotonin, N-acetyl serotonin and melatonin, and adrenal and serum corticosterone, epinephrine and norepinephrine levels were significantly elevated following chronic noise exposure. Contrarily, thyroid activity was suppressed with atrophied thyroid follicles followed by declined levels of serum T3 and T4 with elevation of TSH level. Simultaneously, serum 17β-estradiol (E2) and testosterone (T) concentrations were also significantly declined in all the doses of chronic noise. These changes were dose dependent of noise exposure. The findings suggest that (a) adrenal and pineal glands respond primarily to noise and secondarily act on other endocrine organs including gonads in chicks, (b) adrenal directly and/or indirectly causes thyroid and gonadal dysfunctions via pineal following noise exposure in chicks. 相似文献

The kinetics of interfacial proton transfer reaction is an important factor in proton transport across membranes. The following
experimental system was designed in order to measure this kinetics. Sonicated liposomes having the protonophore SF6847 was
suspended in Tris buffer. Application of a temperature jump (in ∼ 3 μs) caused a drop in the aqueous phase pH which was subsequently
sensed by the membrane-bound SF6847. The kinetics of this interfacial proton transfer reaction was monitored on μs timescales.
The estimated bimolecular rate constant of 2×1011 M−1 s#x2212;1 for this process show that there is no kinetic barrier for the transfer of protons from the aqueous phase to the membrane-water

γ-Aminobutyric acid (GABA) release from inhibitory interneurons located within the cerebellar cortex limits the extent of neuronal excitation in part through activation of metabotropic GABA(B) receptors. Stimulation of these receptors triggers a number of downstream signaling events, including activation of GIRK channels by the Gβγ dimer resulting in membrane hyperpolarization and inhibition of neurotransmitter release from presynaptic sites. Here, we identify RGS6, a member of the R7 subfamily of RGS proteins, as a key regulator of GABA(B)R signaling in cerebellum. RGS6 is enriched in the granule cell layer of the cerebellum along with neuronal GIRK channel subunits 1 and 2 where RGS6 forms a complex with known binding partners Gβ(5) and R7BP. Mice lacking RGS6 exhibit abnormal gait and ataxia characterized by impaired rotarod performance improved by treatment with a GABA(B)R antagonist. RGS6(-/-) mice administered baclofen also showed exaggerated motor coordination deficits compared with their wild-type counterparts. Isolated cerebellar neurons natively expressed RGS6, GABA(B)R, and GIRK channel subunits, and cerebellar granule neurons from RGS6(-/-) mice showed a significant delay in the deactivation kinetics of baclofen-induced GIRK channel currents. These results establish RGS6 as a key component of GABA(B)R signaling and represent the first demonstration of an essential role for modulatory actions of RGS proteins in adult cerebellum. Dysregulation of RGS6 expression in human patients could potentially contribute to loss of motor coordination and, thus, pharmacological manipulation of RGS6 levels might represent a viable means to treat patients with ataxias of cerebellar origin. 相似文献

Interaction between cell surface integrin receptors and extracellular matrix (ECM) components plays an important role in cell survival, proliferation, and migration, including tumor development and invasion of tumor cells. Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) are a family of metalloproteinases capable of digesting ECM components and are important molecules for cell migration. Binding of ECM to integrins initiates cascades of cell signaling events modulating expression and activity of different MMPs. The aim of this study is to investigate fibronectin–integrin-mediated signaling and modulation of MMPs. Benzene has a wide range of industrial applications, but it is also a major source of environmental pollution. The most eco-friendly/cost-effective
method of remediation is biodegradation. In the present study, we used a variety of microbial strains in different combinations
on a selection of substrate concentrations to determine the most effective degradation processes. Bacterial strains of pure
culture (L4, N3, and N6) were isolated from oil sludge in both Luria–Bertani buffer (LB) and nutrient broth media, and identified by 16S-rRNA analysis
(≥98% similarity). The degradation experiments were performed using different combinations of bacterial strains (L4, N3, N6, L4 + N3, L4 + N6, N3 + N6, and L4 + N3 + N6) in modified carbon-free media with different concentrations of benzene as a carbon source (60, 100, and 160 mg l−1) at 30 °C. The isolates of L4 (Acc no: FJ686821), N3 (FJ686825) and N6 (FJ868628) were identified as Bacillus spp. using 16S-rRNA gene sequence analysis. All combinations of isolates have the capacity to degrade benzene. However, the
L4 + N3 combination was more efficient than the other mixed or single cultures. In the presence of N6 isolate, the degradation rate of benzene decreased, possibly due to inter- and/or intra species interaction amongst the bacteria.

m’ of the Lineweaver–Burk regressions conducted as part of this experiment showed that the lower the level of K
m was, the better the biodegradation achieved. The results of this study showed that the use of Bacillus strains in benzene decomposition is feasible. In addition, different strain combinations exhibited different degradation
