A genetic map of the Cf-9 to Dmd region of the mouse X chromosome has been established by typing 100 offspring from a Mus musculus x Mus spretus interspecific backcross for the four loci Cf-9, Cdr, Gabra3, and Dmd. The following order and genetic distances in centimorgans were determined: (Cf-9)-2.4 +/- 1.7-(Cdr)-2.0 +/- 1.4-(Gabra3)-4.1 +/- 2.0-(Dmd). Six backcross offspring carrying X chromosomes with recombination events in the Cdr-Dmd region were identified. These recombination events were used to define the position of Fmr-1, the murine homologue of FMR1, which is the gene implicated in the fragile X syndrome in man, and that of DXS296h, the murine homologue of DXS296. Both Fmr-1 and DXS296h were mapped into the same recombination interval as Gabra3 on the mouse X chromosome. These findings provide strong support for the concept that the order of loci lying in the Cf-9 to Gabra3 segment of the X chromosome is highly conserved between human and mouse. 相似文献
The action potentials induced by nondamaging electrical stimuli in 16- to 22-day-old plants of Helianthus annuus were examined. Typical recordings are presented. Mean values of their amplitudes and conduction velocities in the stem, the strength-duration relation, the 'all-or-none' law and the refractory periods have been determined. The amplitude and velocity of propagation were essentially identical in the upward and downward direction, but greater in the upper than in the lower half. In 'electrically active' plants, the rheobase value is 2 V, the minimum period for stimulation is 1.8 s. and the chronaxie 2.3 s. It is noted that the excitability level between similar plants on the same day and in the same plant on different days is highly variable and undergoes periodic changes. 相似文献
Patients presenting for surgery, be it on an elective or emergency basis, do so in the hope that the anesthetic will be without risk. Yet complications which arise are not always due to anesthesia. More often, the surgical process and factors intrinsic to the patient are major determinants of outcome. Pre-operative assessment allows review of the patient and the proposed surgery, and formation of a plan of management for the pre-, intra-, and post-operative anesthetic care. This paper provides an overview of the pre-operative assessment and management of patients who are to undergo upper abdominal surgery, with the aim of minimizing their risk of post-operative pulmonary complications. In particular, factors which contribute to the development of post-operative respiratory problems are described. 相似文献
[3H]gibberellin A9 was applied to shoots or seed parts of G2 pea to produce radiolabeled metabolites. These were used as markers during purification for the recovery of endogenous GA9 and its naturally occurring metabolites. GA9 and its metabolites were purified by HPLC, derivatized and examined by GC-MS. Endogenous GA9, GA20, GA29 and GA51 were identified in pea shoots and seed coats. GA51-catabolite and GA29-catabolite were also detected in seed coats. GA70 was detected in seed coats following the application of 1 g of GA9. Applied [3H]GA9 was metabolized through both the 13-hydroxylation and 2-hydroxylation pathways. Labeled metabolites were tentatively identified on the basis of co-chromatography on HPLC with endogenous compounds identified by GC-MS. In shoots [3H]GA51 and [3H]GA51-catabolite were the predominant metabolites after 6 hrs, but by 24 hrs there was little of these metabolites remaining, while [3H]GA29-catabolite and an unidentified metabolite predominated. In seed coats [3H]GA51 was the initial product, later followed by [3H]GA51-catabolite and an unidentified metabolite (different from that in shoots), with lesser amounts of [3H]GA20, [3H]GA29 and [3H]GA29-catabolite. [3H]GA70 was a very minor product in both cases. [3H]GA9 was not metabolized by pea cotyledons.Edited by T.J. Gianfagna.Author for correspondence 相似文献
A novel phenomenon of interactions between genotypes of the dieldrin-resistance (Rdl) locus of the Australian sheep blowfly (Lucilia cuprina) is described. Susceptible adult flies exposed to dieldrin-resistant (Rdl/Rdl or Rdl/S) adults, raised from larvae grown on media containing sublethal concentrations of dieldrin, display mortality related to the concentration on which the resistant flies developed. The resistant flies excrete quantities of dieldrin that are toxic to susceptible flies. These observations provide an additional mechanism to those previously identified for the rapid evolution of resistance to dieldrin by L. cuprina. 相似文献
The membrane surrounding the central vacuole of plant cells contains an H(+)-translocating ATPase (H(+)-ATPase) and an H(+)-translocating inorganic pyrophosphatase (H(+)-PPase). Both enzymes are abundant and ubiquitous in plants but the H(+)-PPase is unusual in its exclusive use of inorganic pyrophosphate (PPi) as an energy source. The lack of sequence identity between the vacuolar H(+)-PPase and any other characterized ion pump implies a different evolutionary origin for this translocase. The existence of the vacuolar H(+)-PPase, in conjunction with increasing recognition of PPi as a key metabolite in plant systems, necessitates reconsideration of ATP as the primary energy source for membrane transport in plant cells. 相似文献
The mechanism of the photodimerization of adjacent adenine bases on the same strand of DNA has been elucidated by determining the structure of one of the two major photoproducts that are formed by UV irradiation of the deoxydinucleoside monophosphate d(ApA). The photoproduct, denoted d(ApA)*, corresponds to a species of adenine photodimer first described by P?rschke (P?rschke, D. (1973) J.Am.Chem.Soc. 95, 8440-8446). From a detailed examination of its chemical and spectroscopic properties, including comparisons with the model compound N-cyano-N1-(1-methylimidazol-5-yl)formamidine, it is deduced that d(ApA)* contains a deoxyadenosine unit covalently linked through its C(8) position to C(4) of an imidazole N(1) deoxyribonucleoside moiety bearing an N-cyanoformamidino substituent at C(5). On treatment with acid, d(ApA)* is degraded with high specificity to 8-(5-amino-imidazol-4-yl)adenine whose identity has been confirmed by independent chemical synthesis. It is concluded that the primary event in adenine photodimerization entails photoaddition of the N(7)-C(8) double bond of the 5'-adenine across the C(6) and C(5) positions of the 3'-adenine. The azetidine species thus generated acts as a common precursor to both types of d(ApA) photoproduct which are formed from it by competing modes of azetidine ring fission. 相似文献
