Species of Elachisina are marine and extend from the Caribbeanand western North and Central America to the Philippines, Hawaiiand New Zealand. The anatomy and other morphological featuresof Elachisina ( = Microdocluis) floridana (Rehder) from theFlorida Keys are described and compared with rissoacean familiesjudged to be most closely allied. This species has a uniquecombination of characters which do not correspond to those character-setsused to define any known rissoacean family. Important featuresinclude a metapodial as well as pallial tentacles, a wide ctenidiumwith low, triangular filaments, an osphradium which is shortrelative to the ctenidium, an S-shaped loop of the intestinewhich extends into the pallial roof, long dorsal folds in themidoesophagus, a rather loosely organised nervous system, anopen prostate gland from which the pallial vas deferens exitsat its anterior extremity, glandular lobes on the penis, a non-glandularfold on the right side of the ventral channel of the capsulegland and a fold on the left side in the posterior end of thechannel, a pair of seminal receptacles lying between the albumenand capsule glands, a bursa which lies alongside the capsulegland and opens posteriorly to the ventral channel and a U-shaped,expanded section of the oviduct proximal to the albumen glandand seminal receptacles. This combination of characters is consideredto be sufficiently distinct to arrant the erection of a newfamily-level taxon to accommodate the small group of speciesjudged to be congeneric with E. floridana. Changes are reported of Crataegus-Betula dune woodlands between 1950–1980 from Meijendel, a calcareous coastal dune system near the city of The Hague, The Netherlands, which is used as a water catchment area. It concerns both woodlands in degradation stage and, more common, woodlands on the increase. Changes were recorded with help of successive vegetation maps, air photos and permanent plot observations. Woodland increase usually occurs on places with groundwater at or near the surface, either because of natural circumstances or as a result of artificial groundwater recharge through infiltration as part of the water catchment activities. The management of both types of woodland is discussed.Nomenclature follows Heukels-van der Meijden (1983), Flora van Nederland, 20th ed. Wolters-Noordhoff, Groningen. Summary Voltage-sensitive membrane potential probes were used to monitor currents resulting from positive or negative charge movement across small and large unilamellar phosphatidylcholine (PC) vesicles. Positive currents were measured for the paramagnetic phosphonium ion or for K+-valinomycin. Negative currents were indirectly measured for the anionic proton carriers CCCP and DNP by monitoring transmembrane proton currents. Phloretin, a compound that is believed to decrease dipole fields in planar bilayers, increases positive currents and decreases negative currents when added to egg PC vesicles. In these vesicles, positive currents are increased by phloretin addition to a much larger degree than CCCP currents are reduced. This asymmetry, with respect to the sign of the charge carrier, is apparently not the result of changes in the membrane dielectric constant. It is most easily explained by deeper binding minima at the membrane-solution interface for the CCCP anion, when compared to the phosphonium. The measured asymmetry and the magnitudes of the current changes are consistent with the predictions of a point dipole model. The use of potential-sensitive probes to estimate positive and negative currents, provides a methodology to monitor changes in the membrane dipole potential in vesicle systems.  相似文献

Activity of phosphodiesterases disintegrating cAMP and cGMP in the cornea, sclera and ciliary body was investigated in health and in different stages of experimental herpetic keratitis. The problems concerning the role of the cyclase system in the pathogenesis of herpetic keratitis and the possibility of applying some of the drugs to the disease treatment are discussed.  相似文献
