Three remarkable new genera of conidial lichen-forming fungi, with pycnidial or acervular conidiomata are described and illustrated.Hastifera tenuispora gen. et spec. nov. from the South-Tyrol, Italy, is characterized by very long and narrow hyaline conidia produced in pycnidial conidiomata immersed in thalline warts.Lichingoldia gyalectiformis gen. et spec. nov. from rocks subject to inundation by freshwater in Norway has long sigmoidly curved conidia which appear to be adapted to dispersal in water.Woessia fusarioides gen. et spec. nov. from aQuercus stump in the Burgenland, Austria, has a finely granular thallus and disc-like conidiomata producing falcate conidia; this species is also of interest in that it hasChlorella as the photobiont. The recently described hyphomyceteCheiromycina flabelliformis B. Sutton is reported from Austria for the first time, and is also lichenized. Recent collections ofNigropuncta rugulosa D. Hawksw. from Austria and Italy also show that this species is lichenized rather than parasymbiotic. In all five cases the fungal hyphae of the conidiogenous structures are continuous with those in intimate contact with cells of the algal partners and the biological relationship appears to be mutualistic giving rise to stable crustose lichen thalli.  相似文献

Abstract Sporopachydermia cereana , an ascosporogenous yeast, grew on dimethylamine, trimethylamine or trimethylamine N -oxide as sole nitrogen sources and produced mono-oxygenases for dimethylamine and trimethylamine that were significantly more stable than the corresponding enzymes found in Candida utilis . No trimethylamine mono-oxygenase activity was found in S. cereana grown on dimethylamine. In cells grown on trimethylamine N -oxide (but not on the other nitrogen sources), evidence for an enzyme metabolizing the N -oxide, possibly an aldolase, but more probably a reductase was obtained. All these activities showed a similar requirement for the presence of FAD or FMN in the extract buffer during isolation to retain activity. Amine mono-oxygenase activities showed a similar sensitivity to inhibitors, including proadifen hydrochloride and carbon monoxide as the corresponding enzymes in C. utilis . The trimethylamine N -oxide-dependent oxidation of NADH was more sensitive to inhibition by EDTA, N -ethylmaleimide and β-phenylethylamine than the mono-oxygenases, and less sensitive to KCN, and activity was significantly higher with NADPH than was observed with the 2 mono-oxygenases.  相似文献

Nitrogenase activity (acetylene reduction) of isolated Siratro (Macroptilium atropurpureum) bacteroids was stimulated by addition of plant cytosol fractions which also preserved activity at high (up to 3%) O2 tensions. These effects were not due to leghaemoglobin. Boiling removed some, but not all, of the protective capacity of the cytosol. Heat treated cytosol substantially stimulated the respiration of siratro bacteroids. Of a wide variety of compounds tested, only ascorbate could mimic the cytosol. Ascorbate was present in the cytosol fraction, in significant quantities. The effect of ascorbate was evident at low O2 concentrations and in purified bacteroids, and was inhibited by cyanide. Siratro bacteroids appear to possess an oxidase which could serve a protective role in vivo.  相似文献

Seven antischistosomal drugs, two antimalarial drugs, and one antiamoebic drug were tested in all five Ames strains for induction of mutation, as well as for induction of cytotoxicity, inhibition of cellular progression, and the induction of sister chromatid exchanges in two cultured mammalian cell lines. We found that two agents shown to be negative in the Ames test were positive for sister chromatid exchange induction. An investigation of the life cycle, population dynamics and secondary productivity of the viviparous snail Melanoides tuberculuta inhabiting flooded furrows and irrigation ditches at Ping Long, New Territories, Hong Kong, was undertaken between March 1982 and March 1983. There was a single peak in juvenile recruitment coinciding with the warmer months; hatchlings grew quickly and were sexually mature before the next breeding season. Large animals experienced high mortality and few individuals survived until a second breeding season. Secondary productivity and the production: biomass (P:B) ratio of the population (13.43 g shell–free dry weight m−2 yr−1 and 4.81, respectively) were high and exceeded values of these parameters recorded for freshwater prosobranch populations in temperate regions. Ping Long M. tuberculata were exclusively female, as is typical of most populations of this species. Animals > 3.0 mm shell width (90–120 days old) had eggs and developing larvae in the brood pouch, and fully–developed larvae were recorded from brood pouches throughout the study although release of hatchlings was distinctly seasonal.
A comparison of life cycle parameters of Malaysian M. turberculata with those of the Ping Long population revealed a marked similarity. The significance of such similarity and the importance of parthenogenicity in the life cycle of this widely distributed snail is discussed. Melanoides tuberculata exhibits the characteristics of an opportunist or 'fugitive' species and, by virtue of its reproductive strategies and high productivity, is able to colonize rapidly and temporarily dominate vacant habitats.  相似文献
