The aim of this study was to determine a difference between children with cerebral palsy (CP) and healthy children, regarding health condition of teeth and oral tissuses. Disfunction of masticatory system, in children with CP, causes many problems with mastication. Nonfunctional mastication is related with the consumption of mushy food and decreased selfcleaning of occlusal and aproximal surfaces. All that leads to higher incidence of dental caries. Comparing the DMTF/dft (decayed, missing, filled tooth) index, it is evident that there is no statistically significant difference in a tooth morbidity between the group of healthy children and group of children with CP. The healthy children have statistically significant more teeth with fillings with respect to children with CP. Extractions are more common in children with CP. There is no statistically significant difference between those two groups regarding decayed teeth, one of components of DMFT index. Decayed components are more common than the extractions and fillings in both groups, which shows the insufficient curative care for all children in both groups. It can be concluded that there is a certain need of early beginning and a better organization of the preventive pediatric and dental care, in order to decrease the appearence of dental decay and increase the level of dental health, in this challenged population.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to ascertain which histological types of melanoma can clinically and morphologically appear as polypoid melanomas. In 645 cases of primary cutaneous melanoma we have analyzed criteria for diagnosis of polypoid cutaneous melanoma and afterwards we have analyzed growth phase in each polypoid melanoma, histological type of atypical melanocytes, the number of epidermal ridges which are occupied by atypical melanocytes, and distribution according to age, sex and location, as well as the disease free survival. According to the criteria for polypoid melanomas we have found 147 (22.8%) polypoid cutaneous melanomas. Analyzing the growth phases, histological types of atypical melanocytes and the number of affected epidermal ridges in the group of polypoid melanomas we have ascertained 2 (1.4%) ALMs, 4 (2.8%) LMMs, 42 (28.6%) SSMs and 99 (67.2%) NMs. Our conclusion is that polypoid cutaneous melanomas are morphological forms of various histological melanoma types (ALM, LMM, SSM and NM) and they can all display polypoid morphological form. Polypoid cutaneous melanomas are most often of nodular histological type.  相似文献

The aim of the study was to evaluate oral health conditions and dental caries status in disabled and healthy children. Two groups of randomly selected children 3-17 years old were examined. The first group comprised 80 children with disabilities (cerebral palsy, mental retardation, Down syndrome, autism and hearing-speaking disorders) and the second (control) group included 80 healthy children. Examined children were selected from several institutions which take care of disabled persons, kindergardens and four elementary schools. Clinical examination was performed by using a mirror and a probe and revealed the presence of dental caries, missing (extracted) and filled teeth. All clinically detected cavitations were registered as dental caries. The degree of oral hygiene was evaluated according to the OHI-S index values, which was determined by marking the plaque with 1% eozine solution. The values of OHI-S index ranged from 3.8-4.53 in disabled children and 2.73-2.84 in healthy children. In disabled children, the average dft values were 3.42 in deciduous teeth and 5.24 in mixed dentition. In healthy children, the average dft values were 1.43 in deciduous teeth and 5.1 in mixed dentition. The average DMFT index in disabled children was 1.41 for mixed and 6.39 for permanent dentitions. In healthy children, the average DMFT values were 1.23 in mixed and 4.76 in permanent dentitions. In general, the results revealed significantly poor level of oral hygiene and quite high level of caries prevalence in both disabled and healthy children, accentuating the need to reorganize preventive care measurements and improve dental care, particularly in disabled children in Croatia.  相似文献

Neuronal synchronization is often associated with small time delays, and these delays can change as a function of stimulus properties. Investigation of time delays can be cumbersome if the activity of a large number of neurons is recorded simultaneously and neuronal synchronization is measured in a pairwise manner (such as the cross-correlation histograms) because the number of pairwise measurements increases quadratically. Here, a non-parametric statistical test is proposed with which one can investigate (i) the consistency of the delays across a large number of pairwise measurements and (ii) the consistency of the changes in the time delays as a function of experimental conditions. The test can be classified as non-parametric because it takes into account only the directions of the delays and thus, does not make assumptions about the distributions and the variances of the measurement errors.  相似文献

The intercalating drugs possess a planar aromatic chromophore unit by which they insert between DNA bases causing the distortion of classical B-DNA form. The planar tricyclic structure of anthraquinones belongs to the group of chromophore units and enables anthraquinones to bind to DNA by intercalating mode. The interactions of simple derivatives of anthraquinone, quinizarin (1,4-dihydroxyanthraquinone) and danthron (1,8-dihydroxyanthraquinone), with negatively supercoiled and linear DNA were investigated using a combination of the electrophoretic methods, fluorescence spectrophotometry and single molecule technique an atomic force microscopy. The detection of the topological change of negatively supercoiled plasmid DNA, unwinding of negatively supercoiled DNA, corresponding to appearance of DNA topoisomers with the low superhelicity and an increase of the contour length of linear DNA in the presence of quinizarin and danthron indicate the binding of both anthraquinones to DNA by intercalating mode.  相似文献

We present a non-parametric and computationally efficient method named NeuroXidence that detects coordinated firing of two or more neurons and tests whether the observed level of coordinated firing is significantly different from that expected by chance. The method considers the full auto-structure of the data, including the changes in the rate responses and the history dependencies in the spiking activity. Also, the method accounts for trial-by-trial variability in the dataset, such as the variability of the rate responses and their latencies. NeuroXidence can be applied to short data windows lasting only tens of milliseconds, which enables the tracking of transient neuronal states correlated to information processing. We demonstrate, on both simulated data and single-unit activity recorded in cat visual cortex, that NeuroXidence discriminates reliably between significant and spurious events that occur by chance.  相似文献

Physiological stresses (heat, hemodynamics, genetic mutations, oxidative injury and myocardial ischemia) produce pathological states in which protein damage and misfolded protein structures are a common denominator. The specialized proteins family of antistress proteins - molecular chaperons (HSPs) - are responsible for correct protein folding, dissociating protein aggregates and transport of newly synthesized polypeptides to the target organelles for final packaging, degradation or repair. They are inducible at different cell processes such as cell division, apoptosis, signal transduction, cell differentiation and hormonal stimulation. HSPs are involved in numerous diseases including cardiovascular pathologies, revealing changes of expression and cell localization. We studied the possible changes in expression level of abundant mitochondrial chaperon Hsp60 and main human cytochrome P450 monooxygenase (2E1 isoform) at dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) progression at the end stage of heart failure using Western blot analysis. The ischemic and normal humans' hearts were studied as control samples. We observed the decrease of Hsp60 level in cytoplasmic fraction of DCM- and ischemia-affected hearts' left ventricular and significant increase of Hsp60 in mitochondrial fractions of all hearts investigated. At the same time we detected the increase of P450 2E1 expression level in ischemic and dilated hearts' cytoplasmic fractions in comparison with normal myocardium and no detectable changes in microsomal fractions of hearts investigated which could be linked with increased level of oxidative injury for DCM heart muscle. In addition, all the changes described are accompanied by significant decrease of ATPase activity of myosin purified from DCM-affected heart in comparison with normal and ischemic myocardia as well. The data obtained allow us to propose a working hypothesis of functional link between antistress (HSPs) and antioxidative (cytochromes) systems at DCM progression.  相似文献

We explored, by mutational substitutions and kinetic analysis, possible roles of the four residues involved in the hydrogen-bonding or ionic interactions found in the Ca2+-bound structure of sarcoplasmic reticulum Ca2+-ATPase, Tyr(122)-Arg(324), and Glu(123)-Arg(334) at the top part of second transmembrane helix (M2) connected to the A domain and fourth transmembrane helix (M4) in the P domain. The observed substitution effects indicated that Glu(123), Arg(334), and Tyr(122) contributed to the rapid transition between the Ca2+-unbound and bound states of the unphosphorylated enzyme. Results further showed the more profound inhibitory effects of the substitutions in the M4/P domain (Arg(324) and Arg(334)) upon the isomeric transition of phosphorylated intermediate (EP) (loss of ADP sensitivity) and those in M2/A domain (Tyr(122) and Glu(123)) upon the subsequent processing and hydrolysis of EP. The observed distinct effects suggest that the interactions seen in the Ca2+-bound structure are not functionally important but indicate that Arg(334) with its positive charge and Tyr(122) with its aromatic ring are critically important for the above distinct steps. On the basis of the available structural information, the results strongly suggest that Arg(334) moves downward and forms new interactions with M2 (likely Asn(111)); it thus contributes to the inclination of the M4/P domain toward the M2/A domain, which is crucial for the appropriate gathering between the P domain and the largely rotated A domain to cause the loss of ADP sensitivity. On the other hand, Tyr(122) most likely functions in the subsequent Ca2+-releasing step to produce hydrophobic interactions at the A-P domain interface formed upon their gathering and thus to produce the Ca2+-released form of EP. During the Ca2+-transport cycle, the four residues seem to change interaction partners and thus contribute to the coordinated movements of the cytoplasmic and transmembrane domains.  相似文献
