The relationship between acoustic myography (AMG), electromyography (EMG) and force during submaximal dynamic contractions was examined in the biceps brachii muscles of eight healthy males (aged 17-26 years). Different weights were lifted and lowered at a constant speed, using a wall pulley system, to perform concentric and eccentric contractions, respectively. Integrated AMG (iAMG) and integrated EMG (iEMG) activity both increased linearly with force during concentric (iAMG r = 0.94; iEMG r = 0.99) and eccentric (iAMG r = 0.90; iEMG r = 0.94) contractions. The slopes of the concentric regression lines were significantly different from the eccentric slopes (P less than 0.01) for both iAMG and iEMG with concentric contractions showing greater levels of activity. The results indicated that AMG can be used to detect changes in force during dynamic contractions which has important implications for the use of AMG in rehabilitation. The differences in iAMG activity between concentric and eccentric contractions are discussed in relationship to the origin of the AMG signal. 相似文献

Aerobic stopped-flow experiments have confirmed that component C is the methane monooxygenase component responsible for interaction with NADH. Reduction of component C by NADH is not the rate-limiting step for component C in the methane monooxygenase reaction. Removal and reconstitution of the redox centres of component C suggest a correlation between the presence of the FAD and Fe2S2 redox centres and NADH: acceptor reductase activity and methane monooxygenase activity respectively, consistent with the order of electron flow: NADH----FAD----Fe2S2----component A. This order suggests that component C functions as a 2e-1/1e-1 transformase, splitting electron pairs from NADH for transfer to component A via the one-electron-carrying Fe2S2 centre. Electron transfer has been demonstrated between the reductase component, component C and the oxygenase component, component A, of the methane monooxygenase complex from Methylococcus capsulatus (Bath) by three separate methods. This intermolecular electron transfer step is not rate-determining for the methane monooxygenase reaction. Intermolecular electron transfer was independent of component B, the third component of the methane monooxygenase. Component B is required to switch the oxidase activity of component A to methane mono-oxygenase activity, suggesting that the role of component B is to couple substrate oxidation to electron transfer, via the methane monooxygenase components. 相似文献

Spermiogenesis in the South American leptodactylid frog Odontophrynus cultripes was analyzed ultrastructurally. The spermatids undergo morphological modification while still enclosed in microtubule-rich processes of Sertoli cells. Electron-dense plates resembling junctional structures appear in regions at which the spermatids lie in close contact with the surface of Sertoli cell processes. Spermatid differentiation can be divided into five distinct stages based mainly on chromatin condensation. In the late stages, the densely compacted chromatin loses reactivity to ethanolic phosphotungstic acid (E-PTA). Helical arrangements of microtubules appear in the cytoplasm that surrounds the spermatid nucleus after the second stage. The acrosomal vesicle differentiates into a cone-shaped acrosome that caps the anterior region of the nucleus. The connecting piece, located in the flagellum implantation zone, has transverse striations, and is continuous with the axial rod. The tail is formed by a 9 + 2 axoneme, an undulating membrane, and an axial rod that is rich in basic proteins as demonstrated by E-PTA staining. 相似文献
