Neutral and niche theories give contrasting explanations for the maintenance of tropical tree species diversity. Both have some empirical support, but methods to disentangle their effects have not yet been developed. We applied a statistical measure of spatial structure to data from 14 large tropical forest plots to test a prediction of niche theory that is incompatible with neutral theory: that species in heterogeneous environments should separate out in space according to their niche preferences. We chose plots across a range of topographic heterogeneity, and tested whether pairwise spatial associations among species were more variable in more heterogeneous sites. We found strong support for this prediction, based on a strong positive relationship between variance in the spatial structure of species pairs and topographic heterogeneity across sites. We interpret this pattern as evidence of pervasive niche differentiation, which increases in importance with increasing environmental heterogeneity. 相似文献

Fast developments and substantial achievements have been shaping the field of wearable electronic devices, resulting in the persistent requirement for stretchable lithium‐ion batteries (LIBs). Despite recent progress in stretchable electrodes, stretching full batteries, including electrodes, separator, and sealing material, remains a great challenge. Here, a simple design concept for stretchable LIBs via a wavy structure at the full battery device scale is reported. All components including the package are capable of being reversibly stretched by folding the entire pouch cell into a wavy shape with polydimethylsiloxane filled in each valley region. In addition, the stretchable, sticky, and porous polyurethane/poly(vinylidene fluoride) membrane is adopted as a separator for the first time, which can maintain intimate contact between electrodes and separator to continuously secure ion pathway under dynamic state. Commercial cathode, anode, and package can be utilized in this rationally designed wavy battery to enable stretchability. The results indicate good electrochemical performances and long‐term stability at repeatable release–stretch cycles. A high areal capacity of 3.6 mA h cm?2 and energy density of up to 172 W h L?1 can be achieved for the wavy battery. The promising results of the cost‐effective wavy battery with high stretchability shed light on the development of stretchable energy storages. 相似文献

苹果果实日烧是一种普遍发生的生理病害,最常见的特征之一就是在果实表面出现褐变。通常认为PPO与植物的酶促褐变密切相关。研究了自然和控制条件下,高温强光胁迫对果实PPO活性的影响,以便揭示高温强光胁迫下苹果果实褐变与PPO活性之间的联系。结果表明:高温和强光胁迫与果皮PPO活性变化密切相关。就树冠不同方位而言,西南方位是高温和强光胁迫最严重的区域,其外围裸露果实的PPO活性也最强。在一定范围内,随着处理温度和光照强度的升高,果皮PPO活性也逐渐增强。短时间剧烈升温能够引起PPO活性骤然上升。在同样程度的高温胁迫下,提高环境湿度有利于抑制果皮PPO活性,从而减轻褐变症状的发生。室内外试验一致证实:果实日烧褐变现象与高温强光胁迫下果皮组织PPO活性大幅度提高有直接关系。 相似文献

Background
In recent years, the fungal infectious disease zygomycosis has increased in incidence worldwide, especially among the immunodeficient population. Despite the rates of zygomycosis-related death and deformation being very high, the mechanism(s) by which the fungal pathogens cause these severe manifestations remain unknown.Methods
Using the associated Rhizomucor variabilis species, which can selectively induce cutaneous zygomycosis in otherwise healthy individuals, we investigated the host mechanisms of infection-related responses, including cytokine and chemokine expression as well as contributions of particular T cell subsets. siRNA specifically targeting IL-22,IL-17 and IFN-γ were used to down-regulate expression of those molecules.Results
In mouse models of infection, IL-22 was implicated in development of Rhizomucor spp.-induced skin lesions. In cultured human peripheral blood monocytes, R. pusilluscan, which is often found in immunodeficient patients, induced the production of IL-22, while R. variabilis did not. Moreover, Rhizomucor spp.-induced secretion of Il-22 from CCR6+CCR4+CCR10+ cells was down-regulated by knockdown of IL-22 related signaling receptors, RORC and ARH.Conclusion
Our data strongly suggest that avoidance of IL-22 may be one mechanism by which mucor species produce morbidity and mortality in infected individuals. 相似文献26.

Dove tree (Davidia involucrate) is a Tertiary relic species endemic to China and is reputed to be a ‘living fossil’ in the plant kingdom. Genetic diversity
and genetic structure of this species were analyzed for its conservation and management, using inter-simple sequence repeat
(ISSR) data obtained from eight populations distributed throughout seven provinces of China. A relatively high level of genetic
diversity, at both population and species levels, was detected using the POPGENE software. Analysis of molecular variance
(AMOVA) revealed a moderate level of among-population variation (i.e., 33.21%). The genetic structure of dove tree was closely
consistent with their isolated topographical distribution region based on the results of the STRUCTURE, POPGENE-UPGMA and
PCA analysis. It is postulated that the relatively high level of genetic diversity has been maintained because of: (a) the
original wild geographical distribution, (b) propagation through outcrossing seeds or root suckers, (c) the longevity of individuals
and (d) the relatively little human disturbance. Genetic drift and restricted gene are important factors affecting genetic
differentiation. There was no significant correlation between geographical distances and a pairwise comparison with genetic
distances, as analyzed by the Mantel test, but the clustering result of genetic diversity was consistent with their isolated
topographical distribution regions. Thus, maintaining the stable special habitats associated with this species is recommended
for the in situ conservation. Furthermore, it is important to develop an effective seed germination system for the maintenance

In the course of our search for bioactive metabolites from a colonial tunicate of the family Polyclinidae, six new (1–6) cyclic fatty acid derivatives were isolated. Their planar structures were established on the basis of NMR and MS spectroscopic analyses. The relative configuration was determined by NOESY experiment. Compounds 1–6 represent a fused bicyclic skeleton possibly derived from α,ω-dicarboxylic acids such as eicosanedioic acid or docosanedioic acid via a Diels–Alder type of cyclization. Generation of singlet oxygen is first investigated in the decomposition of polyunsaturated lipid peroxide, alpha-linolenic acid hydroperoxide (LAOOH), by heme-proteins such as cytochrome c and lactoperoxidase. Chemiluminescence and electron spin resonance methods are used to confirm the singlet oxygen generation and quantify its yield. Decomposition products of LAOOH are characterized by HPLC-ESI-MS, which suggests that singlet oxygen is produced via the decomposition of a linear tetraoxide intermediate (Russell's mechanism). Free radicals formed in the decomposition are also identified by the electron spin resonance technique, and the results show that peroxyl, alkyl, and epoxyalkyl radicals are involved. The changes of cytochrome c and lactoperoxidase in the reaction are monitored by UV-visible spectroscopy, revealing the action of a monoelectronic and two-electronic oxidation for cytochrome c and lactoperoxidase, respectively. These results suggest that cytochrome c causes a homolytic reaction of LAOOH, generating alkoxyl radical and then peroxyl radical, which in turn releases singlet oxygen following the Russell mechanism, whereas lactoperoxidase leads to a heterolytic reaction of LAOOH, and the resulting ferryl porphyryl radical of lactoperoxidase abstracts the hydrogen atom from LAOOH to give peroxyl radical and then singlet oxygen. This observation would be important for a better understanding of the damage mechanism of cell membrane or lipoprotein by singlet oxygen and various radicals generated in the peroxidation and decomposition of lipids induced by heme-proteins. 相似文献

In response to DNA damage or replication stress, the protein kinase ATR is activated and subsequently transduces genotoxic signals to cell cycle control and DNA repair machinery through phosphorylation of a number of downstream substrates. Very little is known about the molecular mechanism by which ATR is activated in response to genotoxic insults. In this report, we demonstrate that protein phosphatase 5 (PP5) is required for the ATR-mediated checkpoint activation. PP5 forms a complex with ATR in a genotoxic stress-inducible manner. Interference with the expression or the activity of PP5 leads to impairment of the ATR-mediated phosphorylation of hRad17 and Chk1 after UV or hydroxyurea treatment. Similar results are obtained in ATM-deficient cells, suggesting that the observed defect in checkpoint signaling is the consequence of impaired functional interaction between ATR and PP5. In cells exposed to UV irradiation, PP5 is required to elicit an appropriate S-phase checkpoint response. In addition, loss of PP5 leads to premature mitosis after hydroxyurea treatment. Interestingly, reduced PP5 activity exerts differential effects on the formation of intranuclear foci by ATR and replication protein A, implicating a functional role for PP5 in a specific stage of the checkpoint signaling pathway. Taken together, our results suggest that PP5 plays a critical role in the ATR-mediated checkpoint activation. 相似文献
