Muscle-type LDH (LDH-m4) activity is critical for efficient anaerobic glycolysis. The results here show that rabbit LDH-M4 is inhibited by concentrations of ascorbate normally found in tissues. Aldolase and muscle G-actin were found to protect and to reverse inhibitions of LDH-m4 by ascorbate. G-actins showed some species specificity. Myosin, tropomyosin and troponin from rabbit muscle and muscle proteins from other animal sources had no affect on the inhibitions by ascorbate. The substrate inhibition of LDH-m4 by pyruvate is partially relieved by the presence of aldolase and lowers the Km without affecting the Vm. G-actin under similar conditions has no affect. It is believed that these studies reflect some of the resting properties of glycolytic enzymes that bind and unbind to contractile elements. It is proposed that ascorbate facilitates the storage of glycogen in muscle at rest by inhibiting glycolysis.  相似文献

The focus of the article is on a generic approach to prediction of a healing process based on automatic measurement and modelling of mechanical disease indicators. As a specific example the healing process after treatment of advanced periodontitis is characterised and predicted based on measurement of tooth mobility (TM). For the measurement a new mechatronic instrument was developed that includes a pneumatically driven probe with incorporated sensors of tooth displacement and loading force. TM is measured by a computer controlled data acquisition system and predicted by a non-parametric regression. Similarly as in the characterisation of technical processes, a measured sample is described by TM time series detected on a particular patient, while the regression is determined by a set of samples obtained from a group of patients following periodontal therapy. The influence of surgical access therapy and systemic administration of metronidazole as an adjunct to the mechanical treatment is demonstrated. For this purpose the average changes of tooth mobility are determined on variously treated subgroups. A new method of healing process prediction is demonstrated and its performance is described by a prediction quality.  相似文献

Karyotype structures and heterochromatin distribution in representative taxa of the genus Ophrys are compared, based on Feulgen-stained and banded somatic metaphase chromosomes. The karyotypes of Ophrys iricolor , O. lupercalis , O. caesiella , O. lutea , O. lunulata , O. x. tardans , O. apifera , O. praecox , O. lacaitae and O. insectifera are described for the first time. The karyological analyses indicate the relationships among the species with respect to asymmetry indices and heterochromatin content. Chromosomal differences have been helpful in clarifying the taxonomic position of Ophrys species that do not have clear affinities. The representative species of Araniferae , Fuciflorae and Ophrys sections exhibited the most asymmetrical karyotypes, while chromosome complements of the O. fusca–O. lutea group, of O. tenthredinifera and of O. bombyliflora proved to be less asymmetrical. Weakly heterochromatic chromosomes, with heterochromatin present mostly in thin centromeric bands, characterize Ophrys C-banded karyotypes. Chromomycin A3 (CMA) staining revealed that the analysed species exhibit a weak pattern of CMA+ bands at centromeric, intercalary or telomeric regions. No DAPI bright blocks were observed. The bulbous geophyte Fritillaria montana is partially self‐compatible and capable of switching gender. Small flowering plants produce only single male flowers, but larger plants produce hermaphrodite or, rarely, male and hermaphrodite flowers. Eight populations in peninsular Italy were sampled to determine the frequency and size distributions of male and hermaphrodite plants, and to determine the relationship of plant size to male and hermaphrodite flower production. Male plants were significantly smaller than hermaphrodites and made up 14.5–47.8% (100% in one small population) of flowering plants within populations. There were no significant differences in male fitness among female‐sterile and hermaphrodite flowers, as they both possessed full and comparable fertilizing power. Therefore, the gender variation observed in F. montana is likely to depend on resource‐dependent sex allocation. Abstract

We report interesting and novel reactions of 4′-thionucleosides and their sulfone derivatives when a good leaving group is present in the 5′-position. The results have important implications for the phosphorylation of these nucleoside analogues by standard chemical procedures. Possible mechanisms for these reactions are discussed.

Zygogramma bicolorata Pallister (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae), a biological control agent of Parthenium hysterophorus L. (Asteraceae), was feeding on leaves of Helianthus annuus in India, raising concerns of its host range. Based on the age grading technique, it was shown that the majority of Z. bicolorata on sunflower plants at any time were reproductively immature. This establishes that Z. bicolorata does not pose any risk to sunflower in India.  相似文献

Human depopulation of rural mountain areas and the consequent abandonment of traditional land management are among the greatest driving forces behind changes in mountain ecosystems in Western Europe. Tree and shrub encroachment lead to an increase in landscape matrix uniformity and habitat fragmentation. For some animal species, this represents an unusual case of habitat loss caused by secondary succession. The animal species associated with this agro‐pastoral habitat may suffer from decreased connectivity as a consequence. The Rock Partridge Alectoris graeca is a species endemic to European mountains that represents a model for investigating the impact of habitat loss. We compared the habitat suitability of the Apennine Rock Partridge prior to abandonment of traditional agro‐pastoral activities by aerial photography with the current landscape, in order to investigate the effect of secondary succession on the distribution and viability of the species. We assessed the historical distribution (c. 1900–1950) by quantifying anecdotal evidence from interviews, and the current distribution (2005) from survey data. We applied ecological niche factor analysis and connectivity approaches to evaluate change in habitat suitability over this time scale. Moreover, to quantify landscape connectivity, we evaluated the relative importance of each patch in the two periods. Results indicated that to maintain a viable population in the Apennines, the species requires an ensemble of ecological conditions considerably different from the current situation. We observed a drastic decrease in connectivity as a result of a reduction in numbers and size of high suitability patches. This is most probably the primary cause of the current decline of the Rock Partridge population in the Apennines.  相似文献

A variety of concentrations of the IMPase inhibitor L690,330 were added to sea urchin embryos. Immediate arrest of development was obtained for concentrations from 7.5mm on. Concentrations lower than 3.5mm permitted gastrulation but inhibited skeletogenesis and disturbed elongation along the animal—vegetal axis. The latter results are similar to those obtained by counteracting lithium effect with myoinositol, which are suggested to be due to partial relief of IMPase inhibition.  相似文献
