Chronopathology of cardiovascular disease is now well documented. Silent myocardial ischaemia involves the same pathophysiological changes as conventional ischaemia. Early morning peaks in angina and myocardial ischaemia call for adequate timing of medication, β-blockers abolish the morning peak, and aspirin reduces morning infarctions. The effects of other antianginals on these phenomena are presently unknown.  相似文献

The ranges and mean values of haematocrit, red cell, white cell and differential cell counts, red/white cell ratio, red cell fragilities, haemoglobin levels and serum protein concentrations of adult pike Esox lucius L. have been measured, and the serum electrophoretic patterns on cellulose acetate and polyacrylamide gel described and discussed. It is hoped that these blood values will provide normal standards for the pike since normal ranges are wide, and isolated measurements therefore of limited value.  相似文献

 Five discrete plastid genotypes (plastomes), designated I–V and typified by Oenothera Hookeri, biennis, Lamarckiana, parviflora and argillicola respectively, have been previously characterized within the European subsect. Euoenothera. The evolutionarily more-derived plastome types (I, II and V) are generally less tolerant of new hybridization events than the ancestral types (III and IV), and were first identified based on their incompatibility reactions with standard hybrid nuclei. Restriction maps for all five plastomes are available for the enzymes PvuII, SalI, KpnI and PstI (Gordon et al. 1982). The present study employs PvuII and KpnI restriction digests to compare 28 of the 45 species of subsect. Munzia with Euoenothera plastomes I–V. The results of plastome RFLP fingerprinting show uniform divergence of the South American taxa from their European congeners; all share the previously documented 45-kb inversion in the large single-copy region reported by Hachtel et al. (1991). However, at least six new plastome types have evolved within subsect. Munzia, giving rise to small-fragment size differences of 0.1–0.7 kb. In two of these cases (Oe. featherstonei and Oe. longiflora) unique fragments occurred. For Oe. featherstonei the unique KpnI fragment resulted from a novel 2.2 kb insertion, whereas in Oe. longiflora an additional PvuII restriction site has been created. Summary Size and variation in pollen samples were investigated in several successively selfed generations. A significant decrease in mean diameter of pollen grains accompanied inbreeding; also decreased variation in pollen size from individual plants was observed. Since loss of developmental homeostasis in the sporophyte could affect variation in the gametophyte, sporophytic characters were observed as a control. The main conclusion reached in this study was that pollen diameter is influenced by the gametophytic genotype.  相似文献

Molecular drift of the bride of sevenless (boss) gene in Drosophila   总被引:5,自引:1,他引:5  
DNA sequences were determined for three to five alleles of the bride-of- sevenless (boss) gene in each of four species of Drosophila. The product of boss is a transmembrane receptor for a ligand coded by the sevenless gene that triggers differentiation of the R7 photoreceptor cell in the compound eye. Population parameters affecting the rate and pattern of molecular evolution of boss were estimated from the multinomial configurations of nucleotide polymorphisms of synonymous codons. The time of divergence between D. melanogaster and D. simulans was estimated as approximately 1 Myr, that between D. teissieri and D. yakuba as approximately 0.75 Myr, and that between the two pairs of sibling species as approximately 2 Myr. (The boss genes themselves have estimated divergence times approximately 50% greater than the species divergence times.) The effective size of the species was estimated as approximately 5 x 10(6), and the average mutation rate was estimated as 1-2 x 10(-9)/nucleotide/generation. The ratio of amino acid polymorphisms within species to fixed differences between species suggests that approximately 25% of all possible single-step amino acid replacements in the boss gene product may be selectively neutral or nearly neutral. The data also imply that random genetic drift has been responsible for virtually all of the observed differences in the portion of the boss gene analyzed among the four species.   相似文献

Lysozyme activity and protein concentration in the haemolymph of the flat oyster Ostrea edulis were investigated. These biochemical constituents of the haemolymph could be an indication of the physiological condition and vitality of the defence system of an animal. Haemolymph protein and lysozyme in oysters were examined over an 18 month period to determine their relationship with the strain of oyster, the season, the site, and parasitism by Bonamia ostreae. Haemolymph protein concentration exhibited seasonal fluctuations and varied between strains. Levels of protein in oysters highly infected with B. ostreae were slightly depressed but not significantly so. Haemolymph lysozyme varied greatly between individuals but no correlation was found between lysozyme levels and infection of oysters by B. ostreae.  相似文献

Hosts infected with Fasciola hepatica experience immunosuppression during the acute and chronic phases of the disease. This immunosuppression may allow parasite survival in the face of an ongoing immune response. In bovine hosts early IL-4 and continued IgG1 production is one of the few remaining features of the characteristic type 0/2 helper (Th0/2) response present in the chronic stage of disease. Here we demonstrate elevated levels of parasite-specific, in vitro peripheral blood mononuclear cell (PBMC)-derived transforming growth factor (TGF)-β1 from the early phases of infection and increasing levels of IL-10 as the infection becomes chronic. In vitro neutralisation of these cytokines during culture of PBMCs from experimentally-infected cattle increased IL-4 and IFN-γ production in response to parasite-specific and non-specific stimulation. At 4 weeks p.i. neutralisation of TGF-β results in an increase in parasite driven IL-4, while also having a greater role, compared with IL-10, in influencing specific and non-specific IFN-γ. At 12 weeks p.i. ex vivo parasite driven IL-4 was not restored by inhibiting either IL-10 or TGF-β. However IL-10 influenced both parasite-specific and non-specific IFN-γ production at this time. This highlights the roles of IL-10 and TGF-β in fasciolosis, however the cellular sources of these have yet to be defined. This suggests that suppression of IFN-γ production by parasite molecules occurs during infection and it is possible that the suppression of IFN-γ production may mediate parasite survival in this disease.  相似文献

The interactions between parasitic helminths and gut microbiota are considered to be an important, although as yet incompletely understood, factor in the regulation of immunity, inflammation and a range of diseases. Infection with intestinal helminths is ubiquitous in grazing horses, with cyathostomins (about 50 species of which are recorded) predominating. Consequences of infection include both chronic effects, and an acute inflammatory syndrome, acute larval cyathostominosis, which sometimes follows removal of adult helminths by administration of anthelmintic drugs. The presence of cyathostomins as a resident helminth population of the equine gut (the “helminthome”) provides an opportunity to investigate the effect helminth infection, and its perturbation, has on both the immune system and bacterial microbiome of the gut, as well as to determine the specific mechanisms of pathophysiology involved in equine acute larval cyathostominosis. We studied changes in the faecal microbiota of two groups of horses following treatment with anthelmintics (fenbendazole or moxidectin). We found decreases in both alpha diversity and beta diversity of the faecal microbiota at Day 7 post-treatment, which were reversed by Day 14. These changes were accompanied by increases in inflammatory biomarkers. The general pattern of faecal microbiota detected was similar to that seen in the relatively few equine gut microbiome studies reported to date. We conclude that interplay between resident cyathostomin populations and the bacterial microbiota of the equine large intestine is important in maintaining homeostasis and that disturbance of this ecology can lead to gut dysbiosis and play a role in the aetiology of inflammatory conditions in the horse, including acute larval cyathostominosis.  相似文献
