New mechanisms of biological effects of electromagnetic fields

ATP production in mitochondria depends on the nuclear spin and magnetic moment of Mg²⁺ ion in creatine kinase and ATPase. Consequently, the enzymatic synthesis of ATP is an ion-radical process and depends on the external magnetic field and microwave fields that control the spin states of ion-radical pairs and influence the ATP synthesis. The chemical mechanism of ATP synthesis and the origin of biological effects of electromagnetic (microwave) fields are discussed.     

Assessment of energy partitioning in PSII complexes using chlorophyll fluorescence: reviewing the different approaches toward the definition of a unified method

Based on the examination and quantitative comparison of the approaches used to assess the energy partitioning in photosystem II, the unified method was proposed to calculate the contribution of the components of nonphotochemical quenching.     

A Molecular Dynamics Investigation of Compressed Aqueous Alkanoate Monolayers

Molecular dynamics are conducted on a dodecanoic acid monolayer/aqueous surface. Surface pressure is controlled by imposing constant-volume conditions for series of lengths of the square slab constituting the MD cell. The response of the alkanoate chains to the pressure is followed by examining various computed quantities that monitor their conformational order. These include atom-pair radial distribution functions, chain torsional angles, energies, atomic densities perpendicular to the interface, diffusivities and atomic plots. These quantities lead to chain separations which in the range 4-5 Å implying order when the alkanoate chains have a mean area of 0.18 nm 2.
