Adequate fat diet supplementation shows variable positive effects in farm animal breeding. Omega-3 and n-6 PUFAs are able to modulate several reproductive effectors: the luteolytic PGF2α, the luteotropic PGE2, the nuclear receptor PPARG, and steroids such as E2 and P4. PUFA supplementation favours fertility, onset of estrus, embryo survival, and also parturition by reducing preterm labour risk. These effects are likely mediated by the balance modulation of PGF2α and PGE2 productions, the syntheses of E2 and P4, and the activation of PPARG. As regards to male fertility, the effects of n-3 or n-6 PUFA supplementation at high concentrations in the diet are relatively unknown. PUFAs confer to the spermatozoa plasma membrane the fluidity it needs to achieve fertilization and seem to stimulate the Leydig cell production of testosterone through the regulation of the steroidogenic acute regulatory protein, a transport protein that regulates cholesterol transfer within the mitochondria, which is the rate-limiting step in the production of steroid hormones. As regards to female fertility, PUFA supplementation mediates a broad range of actions in reproductive processes involving pregnancy establishment, uterine endocrinology, and preterm birth. The perfectly composed follicular environment shapes oocyte quality and thus female fertility. Since both oocytes and embryos are vulnerable to microenvironment changes, nutritional alterations and FA unavailability can lead to their defects. The aim of the present review is to examine the effects of n-3 and n-6 PUFAs on male and female reproductive performances and the correlated endocrine mechanisms. 相似文献

The use of stereodynamic probes is becoming one of the leading strategies for the fast and effective determination of enantiomeric excess. Recently, we reported a series of novel molecular architectures based on a modified tris(2‐pyridylmethyl)amine complex (TPMA), which are able to amplify the electronic CD, in the case of Zn(II) assemblies and vibrational CD, in the case of Co(II) assemblies. Herein, we report a structural modification of the ligand with the purpose to obtain a fluorescent chiral probe. The study deals with the synthesis of the novel ligand, the formation of the self‐assembly system with amino acids, and the study of the electronic CD and circularly polarized luminescence. 相似文献

The sponge species Chondrilla nucula has a simple morphology and a very wide geographical distribution. To verify whether the latter might be an artifact of the former, samples of this species were collected across 10,000 km of its range, in the Mediterranean, the Caribbean, and the southwestern atlantic. The classical (spicule morphology) and molecular (allozymes) systematic approaches were compared, to try to define the geographic limits between populations and detect possible cryptic species. We found five distinct genetic forms within C. nucula that sometimes showed morphological homogeneity and other times plasticity. The difference in size of spicules could not be related to the clear-cut genetic differences, suggesting that the use of spicule sizes for sponge systematics should be reappraised. The population of one of the genetic forms along 3000 km of the Brazilian coast was highly structured (FST = 0.21; Nem = 0.96). Our results reject the null hypothesis of cosmopolitanism of C. nucula and indicate that the putative worldwide distribution of some marine sponges, and possibly many other benthic invertebrates, may be the result of overly conservative systematics. Management of multiple exploited stocks of anadromous salmonids in large catchments requires understanding of movement and catchment use by the migrating fish and of their harvesting. The spawning migration of sea trout (Salmo trutta) and Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) was studied in the River Tweed, UK, using acoustic telemetry to complement exploitation rate data and to quantify catchment penetration. Salmon (n = 79) and sea trout (n = 65) were tagged in the tidal-influenced Tweed in summer–autumn. No tagged salmon left the river before spawning, but 3% (2010) and 8% (2011) of pre-spawning sea trout dropped out. Combined tag regurgitation/fish mortality in salmon was 12.5%, while trout mortality was 6% (2010) and 0% (2011). The estimated spawning positions of salmon and sea trout differed; tagged salmon were mostly in the main channel while trout occurred mostly in the upper Tweed and tributaries. Early fish migrated upstream slower than later fish, but sea trout moved through the lower-middle river more quickly than salmon, partly supporting the hypothesis that the lower exploitation rate in autumn of trout (1 vs 3.3% for salmon) there is generated by differences in migration behaviour. 相似文献

Stressful housing conditions like social isolation have been shown to profoundly affect the physiology and health of various organisms which is rarely addressed in fish species. In the present study, we used a shoaling species, zebrafish, to investigate the stress reactivity of grouped and individually housed fish. We also hypothesized if isolation is a stressful condition may disrupt growth performance and innate immune response of individuals. To this end, fish were housed individually (social isolated treatment) or in groups of five fish (control treatment) for 60 days. Growth indices of fish were not affected by social isolation. Sixty-day social isolation did insignificant effect on baseline cortisol levels of specimens; however, individually housed zebrafish showed lower plasma cortisol to chasing stress than the control grouped fish. On the contrary, exposure to predator caused higher cortisol levels in social isolated fish. Serum lysozyme activity of isolated individuals was significantly lower than control fish, but activity of serum complement remained unchanged. Our results represent evidences that zebrafish experienced social isolation showed broad changes in physiological and immunological functions which may affect the quality of life. 相似文献

The genus Laranda has six described species and is confined to South and Southeast of Brazil. We describe a new species and discuss the biology and distribution of the genus. The new species can be distinguished from its known congeners by the following characteristics: absence of yellow spots on pronotum and base of posterior tibiae; female copulatory papilla: sclerotization in dorsal view forming opposing acute angles, apical lobes narrow and small; male genitalia: pseudepiphallic median process short and wide; pseudepiphallic paramere with apex incurved and ectophallic fold surpassing apex of the parameres. The genus is distributed within the Atlantic Forest biome; the new species is found on tree trunks, as well as on forest leaf litter. 相似文献

Class III beta-tubulin (TUBB3) overexpression represents a major mechanism of drug resistance to microtubule interacting agents such as taxanes and Vinca alkaloids. Here, we tested hypoxia as a possible inducer of TUBB3. The effects of hypoxia on TUBB3 expression were monitored at mRNA and protein level in A2780, in its paclitaxel-resistant counterpart (TC1) and in HeLa cells. Hypoxia was a strong inducer of TUBB3 in A2780, but not in TC1 and HeLa cells. In A2780 HIF-1alpha was knocked down using RNA interference and TUBB3 expression was assessed in normoxia and hypoxia. The silencing abolished the hypoxia-dependent increase of TUBB3, thereby demonstrating that HIF-1alpha mediates TUBB3 induction in hypoxia. To investigate this phenomenon, the 5' flanking region of human TUBB3 was cloned upstream GFP as a reporter. This region contained the promoter gene, but activity of the reporter was unaffected by hypoxia. Thus, we looked at the 3' flanking region and, at +168 nucleotides from the stop codon, an HIF-1alpha binding site was proven to be active in hypoxia, using a construct in which the site was cloned downstream GFP as reporter gene. Deletion of the site in the construct abolished GFP enhancement upon hypoxia. Chromatin immunoprecipitation revealed the engagement by HIF-1alpha of this site in hypoxia. Methylation analysis of this 3' enhancer showed that it was free of methylation in 70% of cells in A2780, while in less than 16% in both TC1 and HeLa cells, thereby suggesting that TUBB3 increase upon hypoxia is abolished through methylation of the 3' enhancer. 相似文献

Neurons in the superior colliculus (SC) are known to integrate stimuli of different modalities (e.g., visual and auditory)
following specific properties. In this work, we present a mathematical model of the integrative response of SC neurons, in
order to suggest a possible physiological mechanism underlying multisensory integration in SC. The model includes three distinct
neural areas: two unimodal areas (auditory and visual) are devoted to a topological representation of external stimuli, and
communicate via synaptic connections with a third downstream area (in the SC) responsible for multisensory integration. The
present simulations show that the model, with a single set of parameters, can mimic various responses to different combinations
of external stimuli including the inverse effectiveness, both in terms of multisensory enhancement and contrast, the existence
of within- and cross-modality suppression between spatially disparate stimuli, a reduction of network settling time in response
to cross-modal stimuli compared with individual stimuli. The model suggests that non-linearities in neural responses and synaptic

Novel C-seco-taxoids were synthesized from 10-deacetylbaccatin III and their potencies evaluated against drug-sensitive and drug-resistant cancer cell lines. The drug-resistant cell lines include ovarian cancer cell lines resistant to cisplatin, topotecan, adriamycin and paclitaxel overexpressing class III β-tubulin, A2780TC1 and A2780TC3. The last two cell lines were selected through chronic exposure of A2780wt to paclitaxel and Pgp blocker cyclosporine. All novel C-seco-taxoids exhibited remarkable potency against A2780TC1 and A2780TC3 cell lines, and no cross resistance to cisplatin- and topotecan-resistant cell lines, A2780CIS and A2780TOP. Four of those C-seco-taxoids exhibit much higher activities than IDN5390 against paclitaxel-resistant cell lines, A2780ADR, A2780TC1 and A2780TC3. SB-CST-10202 possesses the best all-round high potencies across different drug-resistant cell lines. Molecular modeling studies, including molecular dynamics simulations, on the drug-protein complexes of class I and III β-tubulins were performed to identify possible cause of the remarkable potency of these C-seco-taxoids against paclitaxel-resistant cell lines overexpressing class III β-tubulin. 相似文献
