A new species of willow from Crete, named Salix kaptarae Cambria, C. Brullo & Brullo, is described and illustrated. Morphologically, it shows close relationships with species belonging to the S. apennina group, mainly with respect to the leaf shape, and the hairy ovary, capsule and base of stamina filaments. Despite much research, gaps remain in knowledge about the potential health effects of exposure to radiofrequency (RF) fields. This study investigated the effects of early‐life exposure to pulsed long term evolution (LTE) 1,846 MHz downlink signals on innate mouse behavior. Animals were exposed for 30 min/day, 5 days/week at a whole‐body average specific energy absorption rate (SAR) of 0.5 or 1 W/kg from late pregnancy (gestation day 13.5) to weaning (postnatal day 21). A behavioral tracking system measured locomotor, drinking, and feeding behavior in the home cage from 12 to 28 weeks of age. The exposure caused significant effects on both appetitive behaviors and activity of offspring that depended on the SAR. Compared with sham‐exposed controls, exposure at 0.5 W/kg significantly decreased drinking frequency (P ≤ 0.000) and significantly decreased distance moved (P ≤ 0.001). In contrast, exposure at 1 W/kg significantly increased drinking frequency (P ≤ 0.001) and significantly increased moving duration (P ≤ 0.005). In the absence of other plausible explanations, it is concluded that repeated exposure to low‐level RF fields in early life may have a persistent and long‐term effect on adult behavior. The most prevalent malignancy in the oral cavity is represented by oral squamous cell carcinoma, an aggressive disease mostly detected in low-income communities. This neoplasia is mostly diffused in older men particularly exposed to risk factors such as tobacco, alcohol, and a diet rich in fatty foods and poor in vegetables. In oral squamous cell carcinoma, a wide range of matrix-cleaving proteinases are involved in extracellular matrix remodeling of cancer microenvironment. In particular, matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) represent the major and most investigated protagonists. Owing to their strong involvement in malignant pathologies, MMPs are considered the most promising new biomarkers in cancer diagnosis and prognosis. The interest in studying MMPs in oral cancer biology is also owing to their prominent role in epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT). EMT is an intricate process involving different complex pathways. EMT-related proteins are attractive diagnostic biomarkers that characterize the activation of biological events that promote cancer's aggressive expansion. Different antioncogenic natural compounds have been investigated to counteract oral carcinogenesis, with the scope of obtaining better clinical results and lower morbidity. The present study investigates the effect of anthocyanin (ACN), phenolic acid (PA) fractions, and their combination (ACNs:PAs) from wild blueberry powder (Vaccinum angustifolium) on the speed of endothelial cell migration, gene expression, and protein levels of RAC1 and RHOA associated with acute exposure to different concentrations of ACNs and PAs. Time-lapse videos were analyzed and endothelial cell speed was calculated. Treatment with ACNs at 60 μg/mL inhibited endothelial cell migration rate ( P ≤ 0.05) while treatment with PAs at 0.002 μg/mL ( P ≤ 0.0001), 60 μg/mL ( P ≤ 0.0001), and 120 μg/mL ( P ≤ 0.01) significantly increased endothelial cell migration rate compared with control. Moreover, exposure of HUVECs to ACNs:PAs at 8:8 μg/mL ( P ≤ 0.05) and 60:60 μg/mL increased ( P ≤ 0.001) endothelial cell migration. Gene expression of RAC1 and RHOA significantly increased 2 hours after exposure with all treatments. No effect of the above fractions was observed on the protein levels of RAC1 and RHOA. Findings suggest that endothelial cell migration is differentially modulated based on the type of blueberry extract (ACN or PA fraction) and is concentration-dependent. Future studies should determine the mechanism of the differential action of the above fractions on endothelial cell migration. 相似文献

Rapid kinetic, spectroscopic, and potentiometric studies have been performed on human Theta class glutathione transferase T2-2 to dissect the mechanism of interaction of this enzyme with its natural substrate GSH. Theta class glutathione transferases are considered to be older than Alpha, Pi, and Mu classes in the evolutionary pathway. As in the more recently evolved GSTs, the activation of GSH in the human Theta enzyme proceeds by a forced deprotonation of the sulfhydryl group (pK(a) = 6.1). The thiol proton is released quantitatively in solution, but above pH 6.5, a protein residue acts as an internal base. Unlike Alpha, Mu, and Pi class isoenzymes, the GSH-binding mechanism occurs via a simple bimolecular reaction with k(on) and k(off) values at least hundred times lower (k(on) = (2.7 +/- 0.8) x 10(4) M(-1) s(-1), k(off) = 36 +/- 9 s(-1), at 37 degrees C). Replacement of Arg-107 by alanine, using site-directed mutagenesis, remarkably increases the pK(a) value of the bound GSH and modifies the substrate binding modality. Y107A mutant enzyme displays a mechanism and rate constants for GSH binding approaching those of Alpha, Mu, and Pi isoenzymes. Comparison of available crystallographic data for all these GSTs reveals an unexpected evolutionary trend in terms of flexibility, which provides a basis for understanding our experimental results. 相似文献

In this paper we use the Gray code representation of the genetic code C = 00, U = 10, G = 11 and A = 01 (C pairs with G, A
pairs with U) to generate a sequence of genetic code-based matrices. In connection with these code-based matrices, we use
the Hamming distance to generate a sequence of numerical matrices. We then further investigate the properties of the numerical
matrices and show that they are doubly stochastic and symmetric. We determine the frequency distributions of the Hamming distances,
building blocks of the matrices, decomposition and iterations of matrices. We present an explicit decomposition formula for
the genetic code-based matrix in terms of permutation matrices, which provides a hypercube representation of the genetic code.
It is also observed that there is a Hamiltonian cycle in a genetic code-based hypercube. 相似文献
