Botrytis fabae spore suspensions containing c. 1, 10, 102, 103, 104, 105, or 106 spores/ml were used to inoculate 5, 17 or 30-day-old field bean leaves. The percentages of the leaf areas covered by, chocolate spot lesions and the percentages of the leaf areas bearing conidiophores were assessed 1, 6, 12, 14, and 19 days after inoculation. The percentage of the area covered by lesions and the percentage of the area bearing conidiophores (logit-transformed) increased linearly with increasing spore concentration (log10-transformed). The proportions of leaf areas covered by lesions and bearing conidiophores were both greater on 17 and 30-day-old leaves than on 5-day-old leaves. The rate of lesion growth increased with both increasing inoculum dose and increasing leaf age. Generally there was no interaction between the effects of leaf age and the effects of inoculum dose on either lesion growth or sporulation. Two days after inoculation with suspensions of either 104 or 106 spores/ml, 7-day-old leaves grown at 15°C were transferred to –16°C or 2.5°C or kept at 15°C for 4 days. An analysis of some sensitizing agents in the pathogenesis of stress-induced gastric erosive disease

Prior surgical implantation of a venous catheter sensitized rats to cold-immobilization stress. Three of six catheterized females succumbed during the stress. The remaining rats fell into two groups in terms of their core temperature at the end of the stress period: Male uncatheterized rats had higher temperatures than rats in the other three groups. No relation was found between catheter patency and magnitude of hypothermia. Degree of gastric disease paralleled the core temperature findings in that the male uncatheterized rats had significantly fewer gastric erosions than the rats in the other three groups. Additionally, a robust effect of gender was found with uncatheterized females showing more hypothermia and more gastric disease than uncatheterized males. A subsequent experiment was conducted to evaluate whether anesthesia or wearing the protective spring was responsible in part for the sensitization seen. Here, the gender difference was less although females consistently averaged lower core temperatures after stress than did males. Despite similar core temperatures after stress, females that were prepared with the protective spring apparatus developed more gastric disease than female controls or similarly treated males. Thus, the additional sensitization exhibited by females in the first experiment may relate to the fact that both catheterization and the taping procedure were sensitizers while only catheterization was a sensitizer for males. 相似文献

The mermithid nematode, Filipjevimermis leipsandra, was successfully cultivated to the preadult stage in Schneider''s Drosophila medium supplemented with 20% fetal bovine serum. Upon transfer to a solid substrate the preadults continued to develop into ovipositing adult females. Four molts were observed. The first molt occurred in the egg. The second occurred after 6-8 days in culture during which the very thin cuticle was shed completely. The third molt occurred after 18-20 days in culture; the cuticle was retained by the third-stage nematode. This stage was considered comparable to the preadult stage that emerges from host larva, Diabrotica spp. The fourth molt occurred within 12 days after the preadult was transferred from the liquid medium to a solid substrate. We report the design, synthesis, and binding affinities of a family of cyclic RGD peptides attached to type VI beta-turn scaffolds. The analogues prepared exhibit interesting binding data to the isolated receptors alphavbeta3 and alphavbeta5.
