[4,6]- and [4,8]-Proguibourtinidin carboxylic acids (3,7,4′-trihydroxyl functionality) of 2,3-trans-3,4-trans: 2,3-cis- and 2,3-trans-3,4-trans: 2,3-trans-configuration based on (?)-epicatechin or (+)-catechin as constituent units, and their associated biflavanoid homologues, predominate in the heartwood of Acacia luederitzii. They are accompanied by stereochemical and functional analogues and by their putative flavan-3,4-diol and flavan-3-ol precursors.  相似文献

Severity of storage rots in different sections of white yam tubers (Dioscorea rotundata Poir.) was investigated. Yam samples with rots were collected from a yam barn and from selected markets in Accra, Ghana, to identify the most predominant pathogens associated with the rots. Nine fungal spoilage microorganisms, including Aspergillus flavus, Aspergillus niger, Botryodiplodia theobromae, Fusarium culmorum, Fusarium oxysporium, Fusarium sp., Penicillium brevi‐compactum, Penicillium sp. and Rhizopus stolonifer and a bacterium species Erwinia carotovora were identified. The mean incidence of occurrence of the organisms on rotten tissues ranged from 1.2% to 28.5%. Of the 10 microorganisms isolated, B. theobromae, F. oxysporium and R. stolonifer were the most frequently encountered spoilage microorganisms in the markets. E. carotovora, Fusarium solani and Penicillium sp. were relatively sparse (incidence not exceeding 3%) compared to the other yam spoilage microorganisms. The surface area and weight of necrotic tissue induced by the spoilage fungi in the various zones of the tubers over a 28‐day storage period were assessed. All the spoilage microorganisms produced rots in the yams, although to different degrees. The severity of the rots increased in weight and area over the period when the tubers were in store but were normally not significantly different in the zones of tubers. There was, however, a linear progression of rots in the various zones of the yam tubers. Although there was generally no significant (P ≥ 0.05) difference in the severity of rots induced by the different microorganisms in the tubers, R. stolonifer commonly induced more rot in the zones of the tubers compared to B. theobromae and F. oxysporium.  相似文献

Improved conditions for extraction and assay increased rates of sucrose synthesis from uridine diphosphate glucose (UDPglucose) plus fructose 6-phosphate (F.6.P) catalysed by leaf extracts 20-fold. Rates of 17.9, 25·0, 9·2 and 27·7 μmol/hr/g fr. wt respectively were obtained from pea shoots, spinach, wheat and bean leaves. Chloroplasts isolated from pea shoots, in which half the plastids were intact, contained less than 4% of the total UDPglucose-fructosephosphate glucosyltransferase, more than 30% of the ribulose diphosphate (RuDP) carboxylase, and more than 40% of the total chlorophyll of the leaf. Although some of the UDPglucose-fructose-phosphate glucosyltransferase was associated with particles smaller than chloroplasts at least 85% of the enzyme was not precipitated at 38 000 g. UDPglucose pyrophosphorylase, also thought to be essential for sucrose synthesis, was distributed between the cell fractions in a similar manner to UDPglucose-fructosephosphate glucosyltransferase. It is concluded that sucrose synthesis in pea shoots and spinach leaves occurs mainly, in the cytoplasm.  相似文献

Summary The axial root growth force exerted by seedlings of pea (Pisum sativum cv. Greenfeast), cotton (Gossypium hirsutum cv. Sicot 3) and sunflower (Helianthus annuus cv. Hysun) was measured. Effects of different seedling age and different batches of seeds on axial root growth pressure were investigated. Mean values of the maximum axial root growth pressure (Pa) estimated from the maximum axial root growth force (Fmax) and root diameter were 497, 289, and 238 kPa respectively for pea, cotton and sunflower seedlings of same size. Pa and Fmax were significantly influenced by seedling age and for pea seedlings of same age they varied with the seed batch. A new technique was developed for estimating radial root growth pressure and was tested on pea seedlings. Each pea root was confined both in the axial and radial directions in a cylindrical chalk sample at a constant water potential. The roots exerted radial stress which caused tensile failure in a proportion of the chalks. The measurement of tensile strength of duplicate chalks enabled estimation of the maximum radial pressures exerted by the roots. The maximum axial and radial root growth pressures were of comparable magnitude.  相似文献

We report the sequence of a cDNA encoding a rabbit immunoglobulin gamma heavy chain of d12 and e14 allotypes with high homology to partial cDNA sequences from rabbits of d11 and e15 allotypes. The encoded rabbit protein shows homologies with human (68-70%) and mouse (60-63%) gamma chains. The nucleotide sequence homologies of the CH domains range from 76-84% with human and 64-76% with mouse sequences. Comparison of the portion of VH encoding amino acid positions 34-112 with a previously determined VH sequence of the same allotype shows high conservation of sequences in the second and third framework segments but more marked differences both in length and encoded amino acids of the second and third complementarity-determining regions (CDRs). We also found a high degree of homology with a human genomic V-region, VH26 (77%) and a remarkable similarity between rabbit and human second CDR sequences and human genomic D minigenes. These results provide additional evidence that D minigene sequences share information with the CDR2 portion of VH regions.  相似文献

The role of microtubules in silicon metabolism leading to valve formation was investigated in the pennate diatom Navicula saprophila Lange-Bertalot & Bonik. By using synchronized cells blocked after mitosis and cytokinesis but prior to cell wall formation, effects due to inhibition of mitosis were eliminated. Cells were treated with three anti-microtubule drugs to assess the role of microtubules. Chemical analogs to two of the drugs provided controls for inhibition not related to microtubule disruption. Although all three anti-microtubule drugs reduced cell separation at high concentrations (1 × 10?3 M), podophyllotoxin was the only drug which reduced cell separation at concentrations lower than 1 × 10?5 M. None of the drugs at any concentration tested affected cell viability. There was no differential inhibitory effect between the active and inactive drugs on silicic acid transport, total uptake, incorporation, or pool formation. There was no qualitative difference between silica incorporated in treated and untreated cells. A colchicine binding component was isolated from N. saprophila. The characteristics of colchicine binding suggest this component may be tubulin. Microtubules do not appear to be involved in any of the steps of silicon metabolism leading to valve formation and yet they have profound influence on the symmetry and pattern of the mineralized product, the siliceous valve.  相似文献
