Microstachys crassifolia, a new species from Chapada dos Veadeiros region in the State of Goias, central Brazil, is here described and illustrated. Its habit and general morphology resembles that of M. nana Silva & Esser, an endemic species from the State of Paraná, southern Brazil. Both species are hemicryptophytes from grasslands, with a well‐developed underground system, glabrous leaves and reddish inflorescences and fruits, but M. crassifolia has fleshy leaves without glands while M. nana has membranaceous leaves with pateliform, submarginal glands.  相似文献

In a recent article, Hachich et al. (2015, Journal of Biogeography, 42 , 1871–1882) studied the large‐scale biogeographical patterns of the species–area, species–island age and species–isolation relationships associated with marine shallow‐water groups (reef fish, gastropods and seaweeds) from 11 Atlantic archipelagos. We here express our concerns regarding the data accuracy used to compute the different models that tested the null hypothesis of species richness being independent of the selected variables. In our commentary, we focus mainly on the use of out‐of‐date checklists of gastropod and seaweed species from different archipelagos, but we also point out inaccuracies in some island age estimates and explain our disagreement with the use of the 200 m depth limit for the shallow‐water gastropods and seaweeds.  相似文献

Osseous free flaps have become the preferred method for reconstructing segmental mandibular defects. Of 457 head and neck free flaps, 150 osseous mandible reconstructions were performed over a 10-year period. This experience was retrospectively reviewed to establish an approach to osseous free flap mandible reconstruction. There were 94 male and 56 female patients (mean age, 50 years; range 3 to 79 years); 43 percent had hemimandibular defects, and the rest had central, lateral, or a combination defect. Donor sites included the fibula (90 percent), radius (4 percent), scapula (4 percent), and ilium (2 percent). Rigid fixation (up to five osteotomy sites) was used in 98 percent of patients. Aesthetic and functional results were evaluated a minimum of 6 months postoperatively. The free flap success rate was 100 percent, and bony union was achieved in 97 percent of the osteotomy sites. Osseointegrated dental implants were placed in 20 patients. A return to an unrestricted diet was achieved in 45 percent of patients; 45 percent returned to a soft diet, and 5 percent were on a liquid diet. Five percent of patients required enteral feeding to maintain weight. Speech was assessed as normal (36 percent), near normal (27 percent), intelligible (28 percent), or unintelligible (9 percent). Aesthetic outcome was judged as excellent (32 percent), good (27 percent), fair (27 percent), or poor (14 percent). This study demonstrates a very high success rate, with good-to-excellent functional and aesthetic results using osseous free flaps for primary mandible reconstruction. The fibula donor site should be the first choice for most cases, particularly those with anterior or large bony defects requiring multiple osteotomies. Use of alternative donor sites (i.e., radius and scapula) is best reserved for cases with large soft-tissue and minimal bone requirements. The ilium is recommended only when other options are unavailable. Thoughtful flap selection and design should supplant the need for multiple, simultaneous free flaps and vein grafting in most cases.  相似文献

The present study was designed (1) to determine whether a free jejunal transfer in a large animal model can develop collateral circulation that is adequate to maintain viability after division of the pedicle and (2) to determine the earliest time pedicle ligation is safe after transplantation. A 15-cm jejunal segment was transferred to the necks of 18 dogs weighing 25 to 35 kg. The bowel segment was inset longitudinally under the skin on one side of the neck, partially covered by the neck muscles, and the mesenteric vessels were anastomosed to recipient vessels in the neck. The proximal and distal bowel stomas were exteriorized through skin openings 12 cm apart and matured. The dogs were subjected to ligation of the vascular pedicle at different intervals: postoperative day 7 (group I, n = 3), day 14 (group II, n = 5), day 21 (group III, n = 5), and day 28 (group IV, n = 5). Blood perfusion was measured in the proximal and distal bowel stomas before pedicle division (control) and 24 hours later using hydrogen gas clearance and fluorescein dye. Bowel necrosis was analyzed using planimetry. The bowel was also stained with hematoxylin and eosin and factor VIII, and new blood vessels were counted. Mean values (+/- standard deviation) were compared with control values for each test and with normal values in the intact bowel using analysis of variance with Neumann-Keuls post-hoc test for multiple comparisons. No jejunal free flaps survived when the vascular pedicle was divided 1 week postoperatively. Bowel survival was 60 percent at 2 weeks, 83 percent at 3 weeks, and 100 percent at 4 weeks. Hydrogen gas clearance values (ml/min/100 g) were 49.6 +/- 8.7 in the mucosa of the intraabdominal jejunum and 37.9 +/- 9.4 in the jejunum that was transferred to the neck before division of the pedicle. Twenty-four hours after pedicle division, hydrogen gas clearance values were 2.8 +/- 6.4 in group I (p < 0.05), 22.4 +/- 12.4 in group II, 23.9 +/- 9.3 in group III, and 34.2 +/- 7.5 in group IV. FluoroScan readings in the transferred jejunum were 201 +/- 7.2 in the control group, 9.3 +/- 2.8 in group I (p < 0.05), 79.1 +/- 10.6 in group II, 66.2 +/- 7.3 in group III, and 164 +/- 11.9 in group IV. New vessel formation as identified by factor VIII staining correlated with increasing bowel perfusion and flap survival rate. Bowel neovascularization, perfusion, and survival increased progressively 1 week after transfer. Significant portions of the transferred bowel will neovascularize and survive as early as 2 weeks postoperatively. However, a minimum of 4 weeks before ligation of the pedicle is necessary to maximize flap perfusion and guarantee survival.  相似文献

The determination of glyoxalase II (S-(2-hydroxyacyl)glutathione hydrolase, EC 3.1.2.6) activity is usually accomplished by monitoring the decrease of absorbance at 240 nm due to the hydrolysis of S-d-lactoylglutathione. However, it was not possible, using this assay, to detect any enzyme activity in situ, in Saccharomyces cerevisiae permeabilized cells. Glyoxalase II activity was then determined by following the formation of GSH at 412 nm using 5,5'-dithiobis(2-nitrobenzoic acid). Using this method we characterized the kinetics of glyoxalase II in situ using S-d-lactoylglutathione as substrate and compared the results with those obtained for cell-free extracts. The specific activity was found to be (4.08 +/- 0.12) x 10(-2) micromol min-1 mg-1 in permeabilized cells and (3.90 +/- 0.04) x 10(-2) micromol min1 mg-1 in cell-free extracts. Kinetic parameters were Km 0.36 +/- 0.09 mM and V (7.65 +/- 0.59) x 10(-4) mM min-1 for permeabilized cells and Km 0.15 +/- 0.10 mM and V (7.23 +/- 1.04) x 10(-4) mM min-1 for cell-free extracts. d-Lactate concentration was also determined and increased in a linear way with permeabilized cell concentration. gamma-Glutamyl transferase (EC 2.3.2.2), which also accepts S-d-lactoylglutathione as substrate and hence could interfere with glyoxalase II assays, was found to be absent in Saccharomyces cerevisiae permeabilized cells.  相似文献

The paper reports Monte Carlo and molecular dynamicsresults for pure liquid dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) at298 K and 1 atm. The classical 6–12 Lennard–Jones plusCoulomb pairwise potential was used to calculateintermolecular interaction energy. Potentialparameters for the liquid were optimized in this work.Some thermodynamic and dynamical properties obtained,such as heat of vaporization, density and diffusioncoefficient, are in good agreement with theexperimental values. The present model is comparedwith other models for DMSO reported previously. It isshown to be an improvement over earlier potentials.The structure factors and the radial distributionfunctions (rdf), are compared with experimentalresults for the liquid. The analysis shows that thestructure of DMSO is not completely understood yet anddeserves deeper investigation. The geometry of thedimer that corresponds to the rdf plots obtained, isreported. The results suggest that the dipole momentof this dimer plays an important role in the structureof the liquid.  相似文献

Background and purposeBreast reconstruction following mastectomy is a relevant element of breast cancer treatment. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the influence of radiotherapy (RT) on local complications in patients with breast cancer that had undergone breast reconstruction with alloplastic material.Materials and methodsRetrospective study of breast cancer patients submitted to mastectomy and breast reconstruction from 2009 to 2013. Clinical and treatment variables were correlated with early and late complications.Results251 patients were included; mean age was 49.7 (25 to 78) years. Reconstruction was immediate in 94% of the patients, with 88% performed with a temporary tissue expander. Postoperative radiotherapy (RT) was delivered to 167 patients (66.5%). Early complications were present in 26.3% of the patients. Irradiated patients presented 5.4% incidence of late complications versus 2.4% for non-irradiated patients (p = 0.327). Diabetes (OR = 3.41 95% CI: 1.23–9.45, p = 0.018) and high body mass index (BMI) (OR = 2.65; 95% CI: 1.60–4.37, p < 0.0001) were the main risk factors. The overall incidence of late complications was 4.4%, with predominance of severe capsular contracture (8/11). Arterial hypertension (OR = 4.78; 95% CI: 1.97–11.63, p = 0.001), BMI (OR = 0.170; 95% CI: 0.048–0.607, p = 0.006) and implant placement (OR = 3.55; 95% CI: 1.26–9.99, p = 0.016) were related to late complications.ConclusionsThe overall rate of complications was low in this population. Radiotherapy delivery translated into a higher but not statistically significant risk of late complications when compared with the non-irradiated patients. Already well-known clinical risk factors for complications after breast reconstruction were identified.  相似文献

The conditions of storage, cultivation and maintenance of microbial cultures should preserve the microbiological homogeneity, phenotypic and genotypic characteristics to ensure better reproducibility of metabolic production. To evaluate the influence of the storage condition on the composition of cell fatty acids, genetic profile and biochemical characteristics of Xanthomonas campestris pv. mangiferaeindicae IBSBF 2103, as well as, to identify its relationship with the yielding and viscosity of the xanthan gum produced, this study monitored the strain preserved in two simple and widely used conditions, ultra-freezer (?80 °C) and refrigeration (3–8 °C) during 5 months. Were identified and quantified 13 fatty acids. The cells preserved at ?80 °C showed more stable concentration of all fatty acids, producing more xanthan gum and with higher viscosity. The chromosomal analysis obtained with the enzyme XbaI revealed 17 distinct fragments with maximum size of 485 kilobases, without variations among the subcultures maintained in both storage conditions. The X. campestris pv. mangiferaeindicae subcultures preserved at ?80 °C showed less pronounced phenotypic variations, which had positive influence in the qualitative and quantitative characteristics of the xanthan gum produced.  相似文献

In the search for lead compounds for new drugs for tuberculosis, the activity of 38 synthetic chalcones were assayed for their potential inhibitory action towards a protein tyrosine phosphatase from Mycobacterium tuberculosis--PtpA. The compounds were obtained by aldolic condensation between aldehydes and acetophenones, under basic conditions. Five compounds presented moderate or good activity. The structure-activity analysis reveals that the predominant factor for the activity is the molecule planarity/hydrophobicity and the nature of the substituents.  相似文献
