The nanoparticles such as hydroxyapatite, zinc oxide, titanium dioxide and zirconium nanoparticles have application in dentistry. Therefore, it is of interest to document the antimicrobial activity of silymarin mediated zinc oxide and hydroxy apatite nanoparticles against oral pathogens. Hence, we synthesized hydroxyapatie and zinc oxide nanoparticles with silymarin and characterized by UV-visible spectrophotometer. Data shows that silymarin mediated HAP and ZnO nanoparticles have antimicrobial activity against oral pathogens such as Pseudomonas sp, Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus mutans, Enterococcus faecalis and Candida albicans. 相似文献

Oxygen consumption and ammonia excretion rates were assessed for Terebratulina retusa (L.) held under 3 different regimes of temperature and food availability. These were: 5.6?C, no food (cold, starved); 5.8?C, food present (cold, fed) and 10.7?C food present (warm, fed), which simulated winter conditions, summer conditions and an intermediate treatment. Regressions of oxygen consumption on ash‐free dry weight (AFDW) had slopes which were not significantly different from each other and ranged from 0.953 to 0.999. A common slope of 0.976 was calculated and intercepts based on the common slope used to compare oxygen consumption in each treatment. The rise from cold, starved conditions to warm, fed was 24.5 per cent and this was significant (P < 0.05). Other differences were not significant (P > 0.05) but the cold, fed result was 12.6 per cent higher than cold, starved. Therefore feeding and temperature probably account for equivalent proportions of the rise in metabolism from winter to summer. Ammonia production data were much more variable. Excretion rates of a 50 mg AFDW individual (in ng‐at NH3‐N.h‐1) were as follows: cold, starved: 30.2 cold, fed: 7.1; and warm, fed: 22.9. Oxygen to nitrogen (O:N) ratios reflected these results. Mean O:N ratios were: cold, starved: 8.0; cold, fed: 42.4; warm, fed: 16.3. This shows that the simulated winter group relied heavily on protein to fuel their metabolism, the simulated summer group were less dependent on protein and the intermediate group probably used lipids and carbohydrates to fuel metabolic demands. This possibly reflected a trade off between food supply and increased metabolism from treatment to treatment, demonstrating a flexibility which could have been a contributing factor in the ecological tolerance and geological longevity of some brachiopods. 相似文献

In Colombia, like most Neotropical countries, faunistic studies on flower flies have been occasional and most of them have been primarily focused on taxonomy. Colombia is the second-most species-rich country in flower fly diversity in the Neotropics after Brazil, and has one of the highest numbers of species per unit area (2.49 per 10,000?km2), based on a review of literature and national collections. Including new data presented here, a total of 47 genera and 300 species are recorded in Colombia. The genera Scaeva Fabricius and Lycastrirhyncha Bigot, as well as 101 species are recorded here for the first time. The altitudinal range and the distribution of the flower fly genera in Colombia are presented. A preliminary comparison of the fauna of Colombia with that of other Neotropical countries is given. A historical perspective is also provided in order to illustrate how Colombian Syrphidae knowledge has progressed over the last 168?years. Information presented here will be useful for ongoing and future biodiversity research as well as conservation projects on Syrphidae in the Neotropical region. 相似文献

Recent studies of mitochondrial DNA sequences have indicated the requirement for substantial revisions of the morphological understanding of the phylogeny of Megachiroptera (Pteropodidae). There is disagreement between studies as to what these revisions might be. This investigation was undertaken to expand the number of studied species and to add the first data from a nuclear gene sequence. For 12S ribosomal DNA (aligned length of 405 positions), 75 Megachiroptera (50 species in 20 genera) and two outgroup species were sequenced. For the oncogene c-mos (aligned length of 488 bases), 56 Megachiroptera (42 species in 19 genera) were sequenced and three eutherians from GenBank used as outgroups.The root of the megachiropteran phylogeny cannot be determined with the present data. Nyctimene, the only studied insectivorous genus (Paranyctimene not being included), plus Notopteris, the only long-tailed megachiropteran, form the sister clade to the other genera in combined analyses. Several alternative rootings are not rejected by the data, suggesting a rapid early radiation. Generic distributions indicate that this may have occurred in Melanesia. The results confirm that the subfamily Macroglossinae is not monophyletic with the long tongued phenoptype arising at least twice and support the existence of a major clade including a monophyletic endemic African component and biogeographically neighboring genera such as Rousettus and Eonycteris. The phylogenetic position of one African genus, Eidolon, remains uncertain.A cynopterine section (excluding Nyctimene and Myonycteris) is supported, albeit weakly, as a monophyletic group. Pteropus and the related, possibly polyphyletic genus Pteralopex, are unexpectedly basal compared to previous molecular studies. 相似文献

rhizosphere and as endophytes in cotton. To assess the impact of transgenic Bt-cotton on changes in the diversity and community
profile of PPFMs by comparing with its non-transgenic cotton, a polyphasic approach including differential carbon-substrate
utilization profiling and DNA fingerprinting techniques like ARDRA, RISA, BOX-PCR and ERIC-PCR were studied. PPFMs from phyllosphere,
rhizoplane and internal tissues of the stem of both Bt-cotton and non-Bt-cotton were isolated and analysed in this study.
All the results suggested that the diversity richness of PPFMs present in the phyllosphere, rhizoplane and internal tissues
did not differ between Bt- and non-Bt-cotton. In this study, there was no evidence to indicate any adverse effects of Bt-cotton

Reoxygenation of hypoxic human umbilical vein endothelial cells(HUVECs) increases protein expression of the complement regulators CD46and CD55. As the receptor for C3b is known to be present on injuredbovine endothelial cells, we investigated whether hypoxia or inflammatory mediators induce complement receptor type 1 (CR1; CD35) expression on HUVECs. CR1 protein expressionincreased 3.7 ± 0.6-fold as measured by ELISA on HUVECsfollowing hypoxia (48 h, 1%O2). Colocalization of CD35 andvon Willebrand factor by confocal microscopy confirmed that CD35 waspredominantly intracellular. Lipopolysaccharide or tumor necrosisfactor- also significantly increased HUVEC CR1 proteinexpression. Western blot analysis of neutrophil or hypoxicHUVEC lysates revealed a 221-kDa CR1 band under nonreducingconditions. RT-PCR of hypoxic HUVEC mRNA revealed a singleband that, after sequencing, was identified as CD35. In situhybridization of hypoxic HUVECs, but not normoxic HUVECs or fibroblasts, demonstrated increased CD35 mRNA.Hypoxic HUVECs bound immune complexes and acted as a cofactorfor factor I-mediated cleavage of C3b. Lipoxins (LX) are bioactive eicosanoids that can be formed during cell to cell interactions in human tissues to self limit key responses in host defense and promote resolution. Aspirin treatment initiates biosynthesis of carbon 15 epimeric LXs, and both series of epimers (LX and aspirin-triggered 15-epi-LX) display counter-regulatory actions with neutrophils. In this study, we report that synthetic lipoxin A(4) (LXA(4)) and 15-epi-LXA(4) (i.e., 15(R)-LXA(4) or aspirin-triggered LXA(4)) are essentially equipotent in inhibiting human polymorphonuclear leukocytes (PMN) in vitro chemotaxis in response to leukotriene B(4), with the maximum inhibition ( approximately 50% reduction) obtained at 1 nM LXA(4). At higher concentrations, 15-epi-LXA(4) proved more potent than LXA(4) as its corresponding carboxyl methyl ester. Also, exposure of PMN to LXA(4) and 15-epi-LXA(4) markedly decreased PMN transmigration across both human microvessel endothelial and epithelial cells, where 15-epi-LXA(4) was more active than LXA(4) at "stopping" migration across epithelial cells. Differences in potency existed between LXA(4) and 15-epi-LXA(4) as their carboxyl methyl esters appear to arise from cell type-specific conversion of their respective carboxyl methyl esters to their corresponding carboxylates as monitored by liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry. Both synthetic LXA(4) and 15-epi-LXA(4) as free acids activate recombinant human LXA(4) receptor (ALXR) to regulate gene expression, whereas the corresponding methyl ester of LXA(4) proved to be a partial ALXR antagonist and did not effectively regulate gene expression. These results demonstrate the potent stereospecific actions shared by LXA(4) and 15-epi-LXA(4) for activating human ALXR-regulated gene expression and their ability to inhibit human PMN migration during PMN vascular as well as mucosal cell to cell interactions. 相似文献
