Sexually experienced male deer mice (Peromyscus maniculatus bairdi) were castrated and tested for male sexual behavior. In the weeks following castration male sexual behavior decreased. Ejaculation disappeared first, followed by intromission and, finally, mounting. Castrated males failing to copulate were assigned to one of four treatment groups: 200 μg testosterone propionate (TP); 200 μg dihydrotestosterone propionate (DHTP); 2 μg estradiol benzoate (EB); or sesame oil (OIL). TP and DHTP were equally effective in restoring the complete male sexual behavior pattern. In contrast, EB was effective in stimulating mounting and minimally effective in stimulating intromissions (vaginal penetration), but did not stimulate ejaculatory responses. These data indicate that in deer mice testosterone may mediate male sexual behavior through reduction to dihydrotestosterone rather than through aromatization to estradiol. 相似文献

Für das Zusammenspiel der Kolonie wichtig sind Grüßen, verschiedene Formen des Imponierens und ritualisierte Aggressionshandlungen. Das Fortpflanzungsgeschehen synchronisieren soziale Gefiederpflege, Kopulationen (bzw. Scheinkopulae) und Nestbauhandlungen. Das Paarsitzen, besonders deutlich außerhalb der Brutperiode, zeigt vermutlich Monogamie an.Das Lautrepertoire, eintönig für das menschliche Ohr, ist individuell variabel.Eine Besonderheit der Waldrappe ist auch die Nestlings-Aggressivität. Nestgeschwister trachten, einander durch Schnabelhiebe in eine Beschwichtigungshaltung zu drängen und so am Betteln zu hindern. Das Verhalten erlischt bei Erreichen eines Gewichtes von ca. 800 g, zugleich mit dem Abflachen der Wachstumskurve. Da Waldrappe ab dem ersten Ei brüten, überleben untergewichtige Letztgeschlüpfte (Nesthäkchen) bei ausreichendem Nahrungsangebot aufgrund ihrer länger anhaltenden Aggressivität.
Social behaviour of the Bald IbisGeronticus eremita — observations at the Alpenzoo, Innsbruck
Summary As a social bird the Bald Ibis shows behaviour patterns for group contact as well as for pair contact: greeting, display, aggressive behaviour of adults and sibling competition, appeasement behaviour, social preening, nesting behaviour, and Paarsitzen (spatial bond). Some of them may be reinforced by changing body-shape and colour of unfeathered skin. Greeting, some forms of display and ritualized aggressions are important for normal intraspecific interactions. Social preening, copulations (false copulae also) and nesting behaviour do not only stimulate the partner, they also synchronize activity within a colony. Paarsitzen might indicate longer lasting monogamy. The vocal inventory is rather uniform, but some calls may vary individually. — The Bald Ibis shows a strong sibling competition. Siblings force to prevent each other to gape by violent pecking and thus releasing appeasement behaviour. Sibling competition stops with about 800 g at the end of the period of rapid body growth. As the Bald Ibis is breeding with the first egg, this behaviour may allow survival of the runt because of its longer lasting aggressivity when there is sufficient food supply.相似文献

Various opioid receptor agonists, including Met5-enkephalin amide, Leu5-enkephalin amide, [D-Ala]2-Met5-enkephalin amide, [D-Ala]2-Leu5-enkephalin amide, morphine sulfate, d-methadone hydrochloride, and l-methadone hydrochloride were administered to adult male rats by subcutaneous injection. All opioid receptor agonists except Leu5-enkephalin amide significantly stimulated growth hormone and prolactin release. Naloxone and naltrexone blocked the hormone stimulatory effects of the opioids and both naloxone and naltrexone, when administered alone, significantly reduced serum growth hormone and prolactin concentrations. The dopaminergic agonist apomorphine, but not the alpha-adrenergic agonist clonidine, blocked opiate stimulation of prolactin. Morphine sulfate caused growth hormone release in rats pretreated with alpha-methyl-p-tryosine, a catecholamine synthesis inhibitor. Cholinergic agonists, physostigmine and pilocarpine, antagonized the growth hormone and prolactin release induced by morphine sulfate. The data suggest that the opiates stimulate prolactin via an interaction with catecholaminergic neurons controlling prolactin release and stimulate growth hormone via a mechanism independent of alpha-adrenergic or general catecholaminergic influence. The mechanism through which cholinergic agonists act to inhibit opiate agonist stimulation of growth hormone is presently unknown. 相似文献

The BIOSTATOR Systems have an on-line glucose analyzer for use with whole blood. This analyzer utilizes a novel enzyme (glucose oxidase) membrane configuration and an electrochemical cell to measure the H2O2 generated. The analyzer response is fast, accurate, precise, stable, and linearly related to the blood glucose concentration over the full range of clinical interest. Extensive correlation studies have been completed to show the agreement between this analyzer and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's recommended hexokinase-glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase procedure. The nutrient, phytoplankton, and zooplankton dynamics in threeenclosed water columns (1300 m3) are described. Two of the enclosureswere mixed using a bubbling chamber at depth. Young chum salmon(Oncorhynchus keta) were added to one of the mixed enclosuresand the unmixed enclosure. No other manipulations were imposed.Copepods appeared in large numbers (e.g. especially Pseudocalanusminutus s.l. and Paracalanus parvus) and population growth rateswere estimated. Ctenophora did not appear in large numbers despitepresumably ideal food environments; it is suggested that inone enclosure this is a consequence of fish predation on thectenophores. The fish experienced high mortalities and low growthrates presumably due to unsuitable prey size. Weekly collectionsof sediment permitted isolation of two major sediment contributors,the first from phytoplankton sinking and the second from biogenkfallout associated with herbivore production. It was found thatthe more oligotrophic enclosure (unmixed) experienced proportionallyhigher utilization of organic carbon. An integrated processing scheme is described for the conversion of a cellulosic waste (newsprint) to sugars by enzymatic hydrolysis and then to ethanol and yeast by fermentation.
