Of the four species encompassing the genus Pelobates, only two overlap along a narrow contact zone, i.e., Pelobates fuscus and Pelobates syriacus. Our study investigated the shifts in niche similarity of these two closely related species from the Last Interglacial towards the end of the twenty-first century. We computed climatic suitability models using Maxent and projected them onto future and past climates. We used fossil occurrences to test the predictive accuracy of past projections. Niche similarity was assessed between the studied species using Schoener’s D index and a background similarity test. Finally, we evaluated niche differentiation by contrasting the species occurrences using a logistic regression analysis. The ecological niches are slightly extended outside the present geographical ranges in the Caucasus and the Balkans, south for P. fuscus and north and west for P. syriacus, suggesting that their present distribution is not at equilibrium with the climate. The Last Interglacial distribution of P. fuscus included British Isles and broad areas in western, central, and northern Europe, while P. syriacus extended northwards in the Balkans. The validation with fossil records revealed good predictive performance (omission error?=?4.1 % for P. fuscus and 16.6 % for P. syriacus). During the Last Glacial Maximum, climatic suitability persisted in refugia in southern Europe, Pannonian Basin, and Caucasus for P. fuscus, and Israel, southern Balkans, and Caucasus for P. syriacus. Present potential distributions revealed a low similarity of species’ ecological niches, comparable with Last Interglacial, but projections towards 2080 revealed a sharp increase.  相似文献

Brain lesion localization in multiple sclerosis (MS) is thought to be associated with the type and severity of adverse health effects. However, several factors hinder statistical analyses of such associations using large MRI datasets: 1) spatial registration algorithms developed for healthy individuals may be less effective on diseased brains and lead to different spatial distributions of lesions; 2) interpretation of results requires the careful selection of confounders; and 3) most approaches have focused on voxel-wise regression approaches. In this paper, we evaluated the performance of five registration algorithms and observed that conclusions regarding lesion localization can vary substantially with the choice of registration algorithm. Methods for dealing with confounding factors due to differences in disease duration and local lesion volume are introduced. Voxel-wise regression is then extended by the introduction of a metric that measures the distance between a patient-specific lesion mask and the population prevalence map.  相似文献

New phosphorus ligands of the type (SPPh2)(O2SR)NH [R=Me (1), C6H4Me-4 (2)] were prepared as white crystalline solids using the reactions between Li[HN(S)PPh2] and RSO2Cl. They were easily converted into their alkali metal salts, M[(SPPh2)(O2SR)N] (M=Li, Na, K). Both the free acids and their alkali metal salts were characterised by multinuclear (1H, 13C, 31P) NMR spectroscopy. The molecular structures of the free acids were established by single crystal X-ray diffraction. They crystallize in the tetragonal space group I41/a (1) and the triclinic space group P−1 (2), respectively. In both compounds the acidic proton is attached to nitrogen and the molecular units are associated through SO?H-N intermolecular hydrogen bonding [H?O 2.216 in 1 and 2.029 Å in 2]. A supramolecular chain-like structure is formed in 1 and dimeric units are built in 2. For both compounds a conformation close to syn-syn can be considered for the SP(C)2-N-SC(O)2 fragment.  相似文献

Background: We propose a method for estimating the timing of in-bed intervals using objective data in a large representative US sample, and quantify the association between these intervals and age, sex, and day of the week.

Methods: The study included 11,951 participants 6 years and older from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 2003–2006, who wore accelerometers to measure physical activity for seven consecutive days. Participants were instructed to remove the device just before the nighttime sleep period and put it back on immediately after. This nighttime period of non-wear was defined in this paper as the objective bedtime (OBT), an objectively estimated record of the in-bed interval. For each night of the week, we estimated two measures: the duration of the OBT (OBT-D) and, as a measure of the chronotype, the midpoint of the OBT (OBT-M). We estimated day-of-the-week-specific OBT-D and OBT-M using gender-specific population percentile curves. Differences in OBT-M (chronotype) and OBT-D (the amount of time spent in bed) by age and sex were estimated using regression models.

Results: The estimates of OBT-M and their differences among age groups were consistent with the estimates of chronotype obtained via self-report in European populations. The average OBT-M varied significantly by age, while OBT-D was less variable with age. In the reference group (females, aged 17–22 years), the average OBT-M across 7 days was 4:19 AM (SD = 30 min) and the average OBT-D was 9 h 19 min (SD = 12 min). In the same age group the average OBT-D was 18 minutes shorter for males than for females, while the average OBT-M was not significantly different between males and females. The most pronounced differences were observed between OBT-M of weekday and weekend nights. In the reference group, compared to the average OBT-M of 3:50 am on Monday through Thursday nights, there was a 57-minute delay in OBT-M on Friday nights (entering the weekend), a 69-minute delay on Saturday nights (staying in the weekend), and a 23-minute delay on Sunday night (leaving the weekend). For both OBT-M and OBT-D, in most age groups and for most days of the week, there were no statistically significant differences between males and females, except for OBT-D on Wednesdays and Thursdays, with males having 31 (p-value < 0.05) and 45 (p-value < 0.05) minutes shorter OBT-D, respectively.

Conclusions: The proposed measures, OBT-D and OBT-M, provide useful information of time in bed and chronotype in NHANES 2003–2006. They identify within-week patterns of bedtime and can be used to study associations between the bedtime and the large number of health outcomes collected in NHANES 2003–2006.  相似文献

In vitro experiments have demonstrated the stimulating effect of serum- and glucocorticoid-inducible kinase (SGK)1 on the activity of the Na+/H+ exchanger (NHE3). SGK1 requires activation by phosphoinositide-dependent kinase (PDK)1, which may thus similarly play a role in the regulation of NHE3-dependent epithelial electrolyte transport. The present study was performed to explore the role of PDK1 in the regulation of NHE3 activity. Because mice completely lacking functional PDK1 are not viable, hypomorphic mice expressing approximately 20% of PDK1 (pdk1(hm)) were compared with their wild-type littermates (pdk1(wt)). NHE3 activity in the intestine and PDK1-overexpressing HEK-293 cells was estimated by utilizing 2',7'-bis(2-carboxyethyl)-5(6)-carboxyfluorescein fluorescence for the determination of intracellular pH. NHE activity was reflected by the Na+-dependent pH recovery from an ammonium prepulse (DeltapH(NHE)). The pH changes after an ammonium pulse allowed the calculation of cellular buffer capacity, which was not significantly different between pdk1(hm) and pdk1(wt) mice. DeltapH(NHE) was in pdk1(hm) mice, only 30 +/- 6% of the value obtained in pdk1(wt) mice. Conversely, DeltapH(NHE) was 32 +/- 7% larger in PDK1-overexpressing HEK-293 cells than in HEK-293 cells expressing the empty vector. The difference between pdk1(hm) and pdk1(wt) mice and between PDK1-overexpressing and empty vector-transfected HEK cells, respectively, was completely abolished in the presence of the NHE3 inhibitor S3226 (10 microM). In conclusion, defective PDK1 expression leads to significant impairment of NHE3 activity in the intestine, pointing to a role of PDK1-dependent signaling in the regulation of NHE-mediated electrolyte transport.  相似文献

Modeling functional data with spatially heterogeneous shape characteristics   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
We propose a novel class of models for functional data exhibiting skewness or other shape characteristics that vary with spatial or temporal location. We use copulas so that the marginal distributions and the dependence structure can be modeled independently. Dependence is modeled with a Gaussian or t-copula, so that there is an underlying latent Gaussian process. We model the marginal distributions using the skew t family. The mean, variance, and shape parameters are modeled nonparametrically as functions of location. A computationally tractable inferential framework for estimating heterogeneous asymmetric or heavy-tailed marginal distributions is introduced. This framework provides a new set of tools for increasingly complex data collected in medical and public health studies. Our methods were motivated by and are illustrated with a state-of-the-art study of neuronal tracts in multiple sclerosis patients and healthy controls. Using the tools we have developed, we were able to find those locations along the tract most affected by the disease. However, our methods are general and highly relevant to many functional data sets. In addition to the application to one-dimensional tract profiles illustrated here, higher-dimensional extensions of the methodology could have direct applications to other biological data including functional and structural magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).  相似文献
