Most estrous cycles in cows consist of 2 or 3 waves of follicular activity. Waves of ovarian follicular development comprise
the growth of dominant follicles some of which become ovulatory and the others are anovulatory. Ovarian follicular activity
in cows during estrous cycle was studied with a special reference to follicular waves and the circulating concentrations of
estradiol and progesterone. Transrectal ultrasound examination was carried out during 14 interovulatory intervals in 7 cows.
Ovarian follicular activity was recorded together with assessment of serum estradiol and progesterone concentrations. Three-wave
versus two-wave interovulatory intervals was observed in 71.4% of cows. The 3-wave interovulatory intervals differed from
2-wave intervals in: 1) earlier emergence of the dominant follicles, 2) longer in length, and 3) shorter interval from emergence
to ovulation. There was a progressive increase in follicular size and estradiol production during growth phase of each wave.
A drop in estradiol concentration was observed during the static phase of dominant anovulatory follicles. The size of the
ovulatory follicle was always greater and produced higher estradiol compared with the anovulatory follicle. In conclusion,
there was a predominance of 3-wave follicular activity that was associated with an increase in length of interovulatory intervals.
A dominant anovulatory follicle during its static phase may initiate the emergence of a subsequent wave. Follicular size and
estradiol concentration may have an important role in controlling follicular development and in determining whether an estrous
cycle will have 2 or 3-waves. 相似文献

Classically, alpha-1,4-glucan synthases have been divided into two families, animal/fungal glycogen synthases (GS) and bacterial/plant starch synthases (G(S)S), according to differences in sequence, sugar donor specificity and regulatory mechanisms. Detailed sequence analysis, predicted secondary structure comparison and threading analysis show that these two families are structurally related and that some domains of GSs were acquired to meet regulatory requirements. Archaeal G(S)S present structural and functional features that are conserved in one, the other or both families. Therefore, they are the link between GS and G(S)S and harbor the minimal sequence and structural features that constitute the minimum catalytic unit of the alpha-1,4-glucan synthase superfamily. 相似文献

The O-antigen chain from the lipopolysaccharide of Helicobacter pylori
strain UA861 was determined to be composed of an elongated type 2 N -
acetyllactosamine backbone,
-[-->3)-beta-D-Gal-(1-->4)-beta-D-GlcNAc-(1- ]n-->, with
approximately half of the GlcNAc units carrying a terminal alpha-d-Glc
residue at the O -6 position. The O-chain of H.pylori UA861 was terminated
by a N -acetyllactosamine [beta-D-Gal-(1-->4)-beta-D- GlcNAc] (LacNAc)
epitope and did not express terminal Lewis X or Lewis Y blood-group
determinants as previously found in other H.pylori strains. The absence of
terminal Lewis X and Lewis Y blood-group epitopes and the replacement of
Fuc by Glc as a side chain in the O- chain of H.pylori UA861 represents yet
another type of lipopolysaccharide structure from H.pylori species. These
structural differences in H.pylori lipopolysaccharide molecules carry
implications with regard to possible different pathogenic events between
strains and respective hosts.

We identified two ClC-2 clones in a guinea pigintestinal epithelial cDNA library, one of which carries a 30-bpdeletion in the NH2 terminus. PCR using primersencompassing the deletion gave two products that furthermore wereamplified with specific primers confirming their authenticity. Thecorresponding genomic DNA sequence gave a structure of three exons andtwo introns. An internal donor site occurring within one of the exonsaccounts for the deletion, consistent with alternative splicing.Expression of the variants gpClC-2 and gpClC-277-86 in HEK-293cells generated inwardly rectifying chloride currents with similaractivation characteristics. Deactivation, however, occurred with fasterkinetics in gpClC-277-86. Site-directed mutagenesis suggeststhat a protein kinase C-mediated phosphorylation consensus site lost ingpClC-277-86 is not responsible for the observed change. Thedeletion-carrying variant is found in most tissues examined, and itappears more abundant in proximal colon, kidney, and testis. Given q as the global frequency of the alleles causing a disease, any allele with a frequency higher than q minus the cumulative frequency of the previously known disease-causing mutations (threshold) cannot be the cause of that disease. This principle was applied to the analysis of cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR) mutations in order to decide whether they are the cause of cystic fibrosis. A total of 191 DNA samples from random individuals from Italy, France, and Spain were investigated by DGGE (denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis) analysis of all the coding and proximal non-coding regions of the gene. The mutations detected by DGGE were identified by sequencing. The sample size was sufficient to select essentially all mutations with a frequency of at least 0.01. A total of 46 mutations was detected, 20 of which were missense mutations. Four new mutations were identified: 1341+28 C/T, 2082 C/T, L1096R, and I11131V. Thirteen mutations (125 G/C, 875+40 A/G, TTGAn, IVS8-6 5T, IVS8-6 9T, 1525-61 A/G, M470V, 2694 T/G, 3061-65 C/A, 4002 A/G, 4521 G/A, IVS8 TG10, IVS8 TG12) were classified as non-CF-causing alleles on the basis of their frequency. The remaining mutations have a cumulative frequency far exceeding q; therefore, most of them cannot be CF-causing mutations. The green microalga Haematococcus pluvialis was cultured with different concentrations of NaNO(3) to determine the effect on cell growth and astaxanthin accumulation. The optimum nitrate concentration to obtain astaxanthin and to avoid the cessation of cell division was 0.15 g/l NaNO(3). The ratio chlorophyll a/total carotenoids proved a good physiological indicator of nitrogen deficiency in the cell. The effect of different carbon sources, malonate and acetate, on astaxanthin accumulation was also studied; up to 13 times more carotenoids per cell were accumulated in cultures with malonate than in cultures without this compound. The pigment analysis was performed by a new low toxicity HPLC method capable of separating chlorophylls a and b, carotenes and xanthophylls in a short-period of time, using low volumes of solvents and with an economical price. With this method even echinenone was separated, which had been unsuccessful by any other method. 相似文献
