Two bioluminescent enchytraeids, Henlea petushkovi sp. n. and Henlea rodionovae sp. n., are described from the Krasnoyarsk and Irkutsk regions in Eastern Siberia. These large potworms exhibit the typical light-production pattern reported repeatedly in the genus and recently elucidated by Russian researchers in its main biophysical and biochemical aspects. Morphology and DNA indicate that the two species are very closely related, but clearly divergent in the strength of the body wall (thick and opaque in H. petushkovi), structure of the prostomium (in H. rodionovae unprecedentedly wrinkled and mobile), brain shape (almost equilateral in H. petushkovi), size of coelomocytes (60–85 μm in H. petushkovi) and structure of intestinal diverticula (tulip-shaped in H. petushkovi, apple-shaped in H. rodionovae). Limited hybridization seems to occur between them, supported by a single case of conflict between COI and morphology, and a few intermediate morphotypes were noted in greenhouse populations. The new species are phylogenetically distant from all known congeners so far DNA-barcoded, even those that, like them, respond to the diagnosis of the putative subgenus Hepatogaster ?ejka, 1910 (multitubular gut diverticula in VIII, indented brain, dorsal blood vessel from IX, prominent spermathecal glands, and nephridia from 5/6). In fact, our phylogenetic analyses dismiss Hepatogaster as an artificial (polyphyletic) taxon. Issues related to the definition of H. nasuta (Eisen, 1878), H. ochracea (Eisen, 1878) and H. irkutensis Burov, 1929, three species originally described from Siberia, indicate that Henlea taxonomy is still in a state of flux, as regards not only species interrelationships but also species definitions.  相似文献

The development of the male genital ducts in Clitellio arenarius, Tubificoides benedii, Heterochaeta costata (Tubificidae) and Stylaria lacustris (Naididae) is studied with the purpose of investigating the homologies between different parts of the ducts. In both Tubificidae and Naididae, the male duct comprises a funnel, a vas deferens and an atrium. There may also be a prostate gland (diffuse or compact) in association with the duct. The funnel and vas deferens, in all four species, originate from the peritoneal (mesodermal) cells in the posterior septa in the testes segment, whereas the atrium develops from an epidermal (ectodermal) invagination. The prostate glands have different origins in different taxa; in S. lacustris it differentiates from the peritoneal (mesodermal) cells surrounding the atrium, but in H. costata and T. benedii it develops by a multiplication of the atrial (ectodermal) cells; C. arenarius lacks a prostate gland. The development of the spermathecae and the female duct is also studied. The spermatheca is an epidermal invagination. The female duct is of mesodermal origin. However, the position of the duct differs; in S. lacustris the female duct is lateral and the pore is in the ovarian segment, while in the tubificids studied the duct is ventral with the pore in the segment behind the one containing the ovary.  相似文献

The biosynthetic chain leading from 5-aminolevulinic acid to chlorophyll is localised to the plastid. Many of the enzymes are nuclear-encoded. NADPH-protochlorophyllide oxidoreductase (EC 1.3.1.33) is one such enzyme which is encoded by two different genes and can exist in an A and a B form. Its import into the plastid seems to be facilitated when protochlorophyllide is present in the chloroplast envelope. Within the plastid the reductase is assembled to thylakoids or prolamellar bodies. The specific properties of the reductase together with the specific properties of the lipids present in the etioplast inner membranes promote the formation of the three-dimensional regular network of the prolamellar bodies. The reductase forms a ternary complex with protochlorophyllide and NADPH that gives rise to different spectral forms of protochlorophyllide. Light transforms protochlorophyllide into chlorophyllide and this photoreaction induces a conformational change in the reductase protein which leads to a process of disaggregation of enzyme, pigment aggregates and membranes, which can be followed spectroscopically and with electron microscopy. The newly formed chlorophyllide is esterified by a membrane-bound nuclear-encoded chlorophyll synthase and the chlorophyll molecule is then associated with proteins into active pigment protein complexes in the photosynthetic machinery.  相似文献

We used male body mass as an indicator of the size ofejaculate transferred and found that relative male size hada significant effect on paternity. The offspring of twice-matedfemales showed a low incidence of mixed paternity. Larger malesobtained the majority of fertilizations, and the degree of second-malesperm precedence was influenced by relative body size of matingmales. In general, second mates obtained fewer fertilizationsthe larger the size of the first mate. The interval betweenthe first and second mating was influenced by the size of thefirst male mate Females first mated to small males remated soonerthan females first mated to larger males Our results suggestthat large males may have a selective advantage over small maleswhen both a male's fertilization success and a female's refractoryperiod are influenced by the size of ejaculate transferred.Furthermore, the effect of male body size on the proportionof offspring sired lends support to the hypothesis that spermcompetition has played a major role in the evolution of ejaculatesize.  相似文献

Bulked segregant analysis was used to identify RAPD markers in oilseed rape (Brassica napus L.) that were linked to a male fertility restorer gene for Ogura cytoplasmic male sterility. After screening for polymorphisms using 960 primers, 14 RAPD markers were mapped to a 25 cM region including the restorer locus, a mapping population of 242 F2 individuals being employed. The map was used to select 11 markers that were investigated for polymorphisms between the restorer donor line and 46 recipient lines. A set of four RAPD markers, one in coupling phase with the restorer allele and three with the non-restorer allele, which were informative in all 46 combinations, were used in marker assisted selection of plants homozygous for the restorer allele. A total of 906 homozygous restored plants were found among the 4605 BC1F2 plants analysed. Phenotypic data of a subset of the classified plants was compared with the RAPD data and the expected number of recombinants was calculated from the map data. A close correspondence between the expected and observed numbers of plants with a deviating phenotype was found. Thus, use of a set of dominant RAPD markers provides a way obtaining reliable data for marker-assisted selection.  相似文献

Abstract Indian meal moths, Plodia interpunctella Hübner (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae), have ears which are sensitive to high‐frequency calls produced by echolocating, insectivorous bats. The influence of artificially generated, high‐intensity, ultrasound signals (25 kHz, 106 dB SPL at 1 m distance) on different parameters involved in the odour‐mediated mating behaviour of this species and its potential use in population control was investigated. All moths flying towards olfactory cues in flight tunnel experiments reacted strongly to a 1 s ultrasound pulse by cessation of flight and falling out of the odour plume. The source contact proportion of both male moths orienting towards the female‐produced sex pheromone and of mated female moths orienting towards an oviposition cue was reduced by 40%, compared to unexposed moths. Calling females responded to the sound by retraction of the ovipositor or by falling to the ground. Long‐term exposure to repetitive pulses of ultrasound suppressed female calling by up to 27%. Furthermore, mating in plastic tents was disrupted by up to 58% in ultrasound‐treated tents using different sound regimens, compared to control tents. The results are discussed in relation to the potential use of ultrasound technology for the population control of pyralid stored product pests.  相似文献

We present parsimony analyses of annelids based on the largest taxon sample and most extensive molecular data set yet assembled, with two nuclear ribosomal genes (18S rDNA and the D1 region of 28S rDNA), one nuclear protein coding‐gene (Histone H3) and one mitochondrial ribosomal gene (16S rDNA) from 217 terminal taxa. Of these, 267 sequences are newly sequenced, and the remaining were obtained from GenBank. The included taxa are based on the criteria that the taxon must have 18S rDNA or at least two other loci. Our analyses show that 68% of annelid family ranked taxa represented by more than one taxon in our study are supported by a jackknife value > 50%. In spite of the size of our data set, the phylogenetic signal in the deepest part of the tree remains weak and the majority of the currently recognized major polychaete clades (except Amphinomida and Aphroditiformia) could not be recovered. Terbelliformia is monophyletic (with the exclusion of Pectinariidae, for which only 18S data were available), whereas members of taxa such as Phyllodocida, Cirratuliformia, Sabellida and Scolecida are scattered over the trees. Clitellata is monophyletic, although Dinophilidae should possibly be included, and Clitellata has a sister group within the polychaetes. One major problem is the current lack of knowledge on the closest relatives to annelids and the position of the annelid root. We suggest that the poor resolution in the basal parts of the trees presented here may be due to lack of signal connected to incomplete data sets both in terms of terminal and gene sampling, rapid radiation events and/or uneven evolutionary rates and long‐branch attraction. © The Willi Hennig Society 2006.  相似文献

The activation energy and activation volume of the spectral blue shift subsequent to protochlorophyllide phototransformation (called Shibata shift in intact leaves) were studied in prolamellar body (PLB) and prothylakoid-(PT)-enriched membrane fractions prepared from dark-grown wheat (Triticum aestivum, L.) leaves. The measurements were done at 20, 30 and 40 degrees C and at various pressure values. The activation energy values were 181+/-8 kJ mol(-1) and 188+/-6 kJ mol(-1) for the PLBs and the PTs, respectively. The pressure stabilized the structure of the NADPH:protochlorophyllide oxidoreductase (POR) macrodomains; it prevented or slowed down the blue shift. There were no significant differences between the activation volumes of PLBs and PTs at 30 or 40 degrees C giving values around 100-125 ml mol(-1) which correspond to changes in the tertiary structure of proteins but also resemble the volume changes occurring during the disaggregation of protein dimers or oligomers, or during dissociation of peripheral membrane proteins from membranes. The small differences in the activation parameters of PLBs and PTs indicate that molecular rearrangements inside the POR macrodomains are the primary reasons of the fluorescence blue shift; however, their lipid microenvironment must be also important in the initialization of the shift.  相似文献
