Changes in process performance and the nitrifying bacterial community associated with an increase of thiocyanate (SCN) loading were investigated in a pre-denitrification process treating industrial wastewater. The increased SCN loading led to the concentration of total nitrogen (TN) in the final effluent, but increasing the internal recycling ratio as an operation parameter from 2 to 5 resulted in a 21% increase in TN removal efficiency. In the aerobic reactor, we found that the Nitrosomonas europaea lineage was the predominant ammonia oxidizing bacteria (AOB) and the percentages of the AOB population within the total bacteria increased from about 4.0% to 17% with increased SCN concentration. The increase of nitrite loading seemed to change the balance between Nitrospira and Nitrobacter, resulting in the high dominance of Nitrospira over Nitrobacter. Meanwhile, a Thiobacillus thioparus was suggested to be the main microorganism responsible for the SCN biodegradation observed in the system.  相似文献

The effect of encephalitogenic myelin basic protein, BP, on active rosette-forming T cells (ARFC) was compared to that of nonencephalitogenic peptide S42, a synthetic analogue of the tryptophan region of BP. Depression of ARFC by these antigens was reversible within 24 h after a second dose of the antigen into the skin, or after in vitro incubation of lymphocytes with the sensitizing antigen (Ag-ARFC). The ratio of Ag-ARFC to ARFC rose with time following the sensitization but fell shortly before the clinical onset of experimental allergic encephalomyelitis in animals sensitized with BP. In contrast, the Ag-ARFC/ARFC ratios for animals sensitized with peptide S42 reached plateau levels from which they did not drop. The kinetics of the Ag-ARFC/ARFC responses paralleled those for delayed-type skin hypersensitivity (DTH) in the respective animals. The DTH responses rose following sensitization and fell shortly after the appearance of clinical signs of EAE.  Seedling developmental responses to understory shade combine the effects of reductions in irradiance and changes in spectral quality. We studied the seedling development of two Southeast Asian dipterocarp trees in response to differences in irradiance (photosynthetic photon flux density, PPFD) and spectral quality (red to far-red ratio, R:FR). The two species, Hopea helferei and H. odorata, are taxonomically closely related but differ in their ecological requirements; H. helferei is more drought-tolerant and typically grows in more open habitats. Seedlings were grown in six different replicated shadehouse treatments varying in percentage of solar PPFD and R:FR. The two species differed in the influence of light variables on most seedling characters, particularly for final height, internode distance, branch/trunk internodes, stem length/mass, leaf area/stem length, petiole length, and growth/mol of photons received. Most of the characters in both taxa were primarily influenced by PPFD, but spectral quality also influenced some characters – more so for H. odorata. The latter species grew more rapidly, particularly in the low PPFD treatments, and its leaves were capable of higher photosynthesis rates. However, growth in H. helferei was not reduced in direct sunlight. The growth of this taxon may be constrained by adaptations, particularly in leaves, for drought tolerance. Signaling molecules, such as ROP/RAC GTPases and their regulators, reactive oxygen species (ROS) and phospholipids, play pivotal roles in the control of tip growth in pollen tubes and root hairs. They are often localized to the apical growing region of these cells, where their functions are tightly interconnected with cytoskeletal rearrangement and polar vesicle trafficking, which participate in tip growth as well as affect the generation and maintenance of the apical growing region. Recent advances in our understanding of the interface between these cellular activities and signaling in tip growth will be discussed.  相似文献

The classical type of transient receptor potential channel (TRPC) is a molecular candidate for Ca2+-permeable cation channels in mammalian cells. Especially, TRPC4 has the similar properties to Ca2+-permeable nonselective cation channels (NSCCs) activated by muscarinic stimulation in visceral smooth muscles. In visceral smooth muscles, NSCCs activated by muscarinic stimulation were blocked by anti-Gαi/o antibodies. However, there is still no report which Gα proteins are involved in the activation process of TRPC4. Among Gα proteins, only Gαi protein can activate TRPC4 channel. The activation effect of Gαi was specific for TRPC4 because Gαi has no activation effect on TRPC5, TRPC6 and TRPV6. Coexpression with muscarinic receptor M2 induced TRPC4 current activation by muscarinic stimulation with carbachol, which was inhibited by pertussis toxin. These results suggest that Gαi is involved specifically in the activation of TRPC4.  相似文献
