Further investigation on nuclear transplantation in different orders of teleost: the combination of the nucleus of Tilapia (Oreochromis nilotica) and the cytoplasm of Loach (Paramisgurnus dabryanus).

The nucleus of a blastula cell from Tilapia (Oreochromis nilotica, family Cichlidae, order Perciformes) was transplanted into an enucleated egg of Loach (Paramisgurnus dabryanus, family Cobitidae, order Cypriniformes). From among 3747 nucleo-cytoplasmic hybrid (NCH) eggs two NCH larval fish (0.05%) were obtained; one died on the 6th day and the other died on the 12th day after the operation. Morphological examinations showed that both NCH larval fish had developed normally with an opened mouth except they could not take food after complete utilization of their egg yolk on the 5th day of development. The possible mechanisms for obtaining such inter-order NCH larval fish are discussed. This is the first report indicating that inter-order NCH larval fish can be obtained in spite of their evolutionary divergence.     

中国人ε珠蛋白基因5′侧序列中多态性Hinc Ⅱ位点的进一步研究

本文进一步研究了我国不同民族的正常个体以及β地中海贫血患者θ珠蛋白基因5′侧序列中的多态性HincⅡ位点及其遗传性质。在广西壮族正常个体和β地中海贫血纯合子中,该多态性位点的发生频率均为75％,与正常汉族人测得值相近。家系分析资料表明,该多态性位点完全按照孟德尔规律进行遗传。     

The regulation of amyloid beta protein precursor secretion and its modulatory role in cell adhesion

The regulation and function of two forms of the amyloid beta protein precursor (ABPP) that are released into the growth-conditioned medium of the PC12 nerve cell line were examined. Nerve growth factor increases the release of the form of ABPP without the protease-inhibitor domain relative to the protein containing the protease inhibitor and increases the overall rate of ABPP secretion 2-fold. In contrast, fibroblast growth factor increases the rate of ABPP secretion approximately 7-fold. Both forms of the secreted ABPP molecule are, in turn, able to stimulate adhesion of PC12 cells to substrata to which they are adsorbed about 10-fold more efficiently on a molar basis than Iaminin.     

植物群落演替与土壤发展之间的关系

本文运用植物群落中植物优势种的重要值与相对应子群落的土壤特征值直接相关联的分析方法,对湖北宜昌大老岭的桦(Betula)、栎(Quercus)、栗(Castanea)七个群落类型的三个演替途径的土壤动态进行分析,结果表明:在植物群落的演替过程中,土壤中的Ca、pH值减少;离子代换量增加;Na、Mg、NH_4+-N、速效P、速效K、有机质的含量是随着物种的变化而呈不同的趋势。因此,植物群落的演替是生态系统的动态过程。     

Cellobiose-oxidizing enzyme from a newly isolated cellulolytic bacterium Cytophaga sp. LX-7

Summary The cellobiose oxidizing enzyme of the newly isolated cellulolytic bacterium Cytophaga sp. LX-7 was produced extracellularly when grown on cellulose or other saccharides, which was previously noted only in fungi. The enzyme could use not only cellobiose, maltose, glucose and other saccharides but also cellulose as substrates, and use dichlorophenol indophenol and oxygen as electron acceptors.

Vntr Allele Frequency Distributions under the Stepwise Mutation Model: A Computer Simulation Approach

Variable numbers of tandem repeats (VNTRs) are a class of highly informative and widely dispersed genetic markers. Despite their wide application in biological science, little is known about their mutational mechanisms or population dynamics. The objective of this work was to investigate four summary measures of VNTR allele frequency distributions: number of alleles, number of modes, range in allele size and heterozygosity, using computer simulations of the one-step stepwise mutation model (SMM). We estimated these measures and their probability distributions for a wide range of mutation rates and compared the simulation results with predictions from analytical formulations of the one-step SMM. The average heterozygosity from the simulations agreed with the analytical expectation under the SMM. The average number of alleles, however, was larger in the simulations than the analytical expectation of the SMM. We then compared our simulation expectations with actual data reported in the literature. We used the sample size and observed heterozygosity to determine the expected value, 5th and 95th percentiles for the other three summary measures, allelic size range, number of modes and number of alleles. The loci analyzed were classified into three groups based on the size of the repeat unit: microsatellites (1-2 base pair (bp) repeat unit), short tandem repeats [(STR) 3-5 bp repeat unit], and minisatellites (15-70 bp repeat unit). In general, STR loci were most similar to the simulation results under the SMM for the three summary measures (number of alleles, number of modes and range in allele size), followed by the microsatellite loci and then by the minisatellite loci, which showed deviations in the direction of the infinite allele model (IAM). Based on these differences, we hypothesize that these three classes of loci are subject to different mutational forces.     

在中国壮族家系中发现的一例-α~T/-α~Q复合β~0β~0珠蛋白基因型

本文报道在我国广西隆林壮族中发现一个罕見的HbQ复合α,β地中海贫血家系。先证者女,18岁,贫血面容,肝脾肿大。化学结构分析确证本Hb变异体为HbQ Thailand[α74(EF3)Asp→His]。血红蛋白组成以及α和β珠蛋白基因分析结果表明,先证者的珠蛋白基因型为-α~Q/-α~T复合β°/β°(IVSI-1G→T/Codon17A→T);先证者父的基因型为-‘α~Q/-复合β~O/β~A(IVSI-1G→T/β~A);先证母的基因型为-α~T/αα复合β~O/β~A(Codon17A→T/β~A)。
